I am happy you said that prayer! Today, I celebrate 7 years clean and sober. Yeah! When I thought I was going to go crazy with my dau I just said that prayer. It worked. Oswego High School won 42-6 in the first round of the state playoffs.
Notre Dame eked out a win in the final seconds.
Chicago Bears romped over the Forty-Niners 41-10.

It may only be football, and nothing of real lasting consequence, but at this point in my life, I'll take whatever positive thing I can scrounge up... those few positive instances are so elusive and fleetingly transient...

I turned on the TV yesterday, and the channel was airing a rerun of a January 17 broadcast of the sitcom "Scrubs" I hadn't seen before.

I like that show because it makes me laugh - but they also throw in some good life lessons to think about.

I almost fell out of my chair when J.D. told his patient she has Systemic Familial Amyloidosis!

Having such a rare disease sometimes makes me feel like a freak. Being hereditary, it makes me feel like no one in this country cares what happens to me. It makes me feel like the only ones interested are people who want me dead - so they can dissect me into pieces and possibly make a name for themselves.

That episode put a face on the disease, with a reminder not to give up on us - we're human beings, just like everyone else. We may be prepared to die, but we'd prefer to live - and not have everyone turn their backs on us.

Thanks for acknowleding us, J.D. and Dr. Cox - always knew you were special (even if you're not real). :)

We had a wonderful time yesterday. It was a competition powwow. They were judging the drum groups when we took our seats, and a lot of people were dancing - some in regalia, others in street clothes. My friend looked like she was chomping at the bit and wanted to join them - but she knows how I feel about that, lol. :rolleyes:

Just at that moment, Leonard (the MC who also headed those Chief Illiniwek protests I attended) invited everyone to come down regardless of race/religion, that it was just a social dance - so I told my friend to go for it. She didn't make a spectacle of herself, she was very respectful - but she was truly glowing down there. It made me feel good to see her feeling so good. It also felt good to have a non-native friend with me who enjoys the music and much as I do.

When that part was over, they brought out the Tiny Tots - kids 6 and under. They were SO adorable and put so much heart into their dancing. I'm sure there were a lot of proud relatives watching.

I really like the women's fancy shawl and men's traditional dance.

By the time we got home, my legs were SCREAMING in pain - but it didn't take away from the day. It was worth it. :D

I'm happy because I discovered someone I knew from YEARS ago is working in my changed and enlarged group of the last few months. This year we had some more changes so I noticed her first name and middle initial.

So I guess I'm kinda happy. Trying to think of the last time I talked to her... 1992? maybe 93... and we all worked in the same area from 1983-1986.

Interesting week. This month also makes a year I'm on my own. The year keeps looking better and better.

The Punxsutawney and Staten Island ground hogs didn't see their shadow, that's strange too. LOL

I'm happy Idealist's friend Jimmy has shown improvement. :)

I'm happy because the University of Illinois FINALLY decided to drop that stupid Indian mascot "Chief Illiniwek." :D It only took almost 20 years of standing out in the cold talking to closed doors. :rolleyes:

However, I've already heard people saying they will no longer donate money to the school. I also suspect the natives attending school there might be in danger of retaliation. One student threatened to "throw a tomahawk" into the face of one of the native students. :(

I hope they can be adults about this decision. If they typically donate to their alma mater, they should continue to do so. It wasn't the mascot that provided their education. If they TRULY honored Native Americans in their past homage to "Chief Illiniwek," they won't attack or threaten the natives on their campus.

For now I am stranded here, it's somethinging out there.. it's not rain, it's not snow, it's like hail, but smaller. The grounds have inches upon inches of ice. I guess I have no place to go anyway, I have to get everything ready to be moved.

yeah, my old laptop was beeping so I begged them to replace it before it died, so I didn't lose my precious work files. Thing is, I don't store files on this laptop, I NETWORK to my office pc and keep ALL the files there.

I have to get back to planning my Florida trip, esp the drive 'home', if the roads continue to be paved, I'll be seeing people I haven't seen in YEARS, some never at all, all along my way back to NY.

Well.. no.. no party, sorry everyone. I moved here just in time to leave! LOL. I'm going to my brother overnight tonight, and then have to seriously spend the next 3 weeks planning my trip and trying to get things set up and secure. Then I'll be gone for 3 or more weeks.

When I get back it'll be time to start planning my camping festivals.. all alone this year, the couple I usually join won't be at any of them this year.

I am happy because I have a chance to spend time with my mother and let her know how much she is loved and what I think of her before she reaches her end. The doc gave 6 mths to 1 yr. and true it is hard I also realize how blessed me and my family are to get this chance.
I am happy because neuro talk is such a great place of support for me. when I feel like not coming here I find myself slip back here and it is so good to find and meet people that make me feel better and not so alone... even tho it feels like I am alone sometimes. :(
And thankfull for this thread and the person who began it. :D
I am happy lastly because 3 days ago I stopped smoking and have not had a cig . I hope I can continue NOT smoking!!!!!
