View Full Version : Several things changed with my NT site

Hi, Everybody!
Several things changed with my NT site after I installed a Yahoo Messanger. I have since uninstalled it [I think - I am very illiterate as regards the computer], but changes to site remain. I can no longer send PM's by hitting Quick Links. In fact, nothing happens when I hit Quick Links. I can no longer put emoticons into my text. After I log in I have to hit the line below the Thank You for Logging In, whereas before I was automatically redirected. When logging in, I have to erase "User Name" before I can enter my name, whereas before it erased itself. There may be more changes that I am not currently thinking of. I am not the brightest bulb on the tree due to med therapy, I think. Is it possible that I have done something wrong that is causing these changes. I most miss the loss of Quick Links, as I like to send PM's. Thank You for any advice. billie

Are you logged in, Billie? It seems like you arent. Yahoo messenger shouldn't cause this problem, and since you have uninstalled it you should be OK. I wish I could be more helpful

I am on NT. I deleted my Yahoo Messanger as per your instructions. I still have many Yahoo things that seemed to come alone with it. Am afraid to fool around with anything else. Color me "Too Dumb to Plumb" billie

Your instructions for removing the Yahoo toolbar worked! Thank You! I don't know whether it will change anything on NT, but it couldn't hurt. Appreciate your response! billie

A reboot after making changes might be a good idea too.
if those don't help then we look at clearing the cookies, but those remove passwords and log in info so you have to have them written down & saved somewhere else - before we try that option.

I have just seemingly lost my ability to reply or quick reply. My reply is rejected with a message to effect that "message is too short. Must be 10 characters." Which, of course, it is. Am trying again here. Caring for You - billie

Thank you for this link. My problems with NT started after I installed a Yahoo Messenger, but I don't think it had anything to do with that, but rather, if anything, something I did wrong in the process. I have since uninstalled it, with no changes or improvements. Since that time: I cannot use emoticons in my text; I cannot use quick links to send PM's from the board [or for any reason - quick links just does not respond]. I now have to hit the line below "Thank You for signing in, billie" in order to get into the forums, whereas I did not before. I have to manually erase "Your Name" before I can enter my name in logging in, whereas before it just disappeared when I began typing my name. There are other little changes which I am not thinking to mention right now. All the changes are not dysfunctional, but rather just worrisome, because I don't understand them. I WOULD like to be able to use Smilies in my text. The "Disable Smilies in Text" button at bottom of message page is NOT checked, in case you were wondering. I am sorry to be such an internet ignoramous, but I just love the forums and can't stop using it no matter how many difficulties arise. Thank You All for anything suggestions or help.

Hi billie - I merged your newest post into this thread so it stays all together, it will be easier to keep track of what steps we have tried already.
I also changed your reply box settings does it look any different to you- do the similes show on the side of it?

Thank You for the Changes! No, I don't see anything different yet, but I have not been on long - just a few minutes while waiting for my case manager. Yes, the smilies are on the right, just as they have always been. They just don't respond when clicked anymore like they used to. Again, Bless You for helping me. I yearn for the days when I used to be capable and a helpER. But we must live with what we have. Blessings - billie

Billie, go to the bottom left of this message and click onto "Post Reply".
Now scroll down to the icons directly under there. You will see a heading called "Additional Options".
Under "miscellaneous options" you will see 3 boxes.
The first two can be ticked, but make sure the bottom one is NOT ticked.
That one says "Disable smilies in text".

she might need to click on the little arrows to the right side of the Additional Options bar to make the area open up.
good idea , I hadn't thought of that.

Dear Jo Mar, the Computer Genius,
That's kind of like asking me to fly out the window without even spreading my arms! I will try it when I am smarter. In the meantime, I have asked for help in removing a new message, dated 8-9-09, from jackie66, from my User CP page. I have read this message, but it is the only one that I have been unable to move, open, or delete since I read it. I don't know that this could be the problem, but I had no problems prior to the problem with this message. Probably just coincidental, but what do I know? Nothing, that's what. I would give anything for your abilities, as I love the forum, and my best friends are in here! billie

I removed it for you .
On the visitor messages you can use the little report Icon and just contact us that way anytime there is a problem or concern - it gives us the link right to it and we don't have to go searching for it.:)
Or PM us with a link & a note about any requests.
We aren't always able to read every post so sometimes messages like this can get missed.
