Hello everyone! I am new to this whole internet forum/chat room experience, so bear with me if I'm a little awkward. I found this site searching for a support group for Parents of Bipolar children. I really need to connect with people dealing with the same issues. There are not many resources locally.

Hello and Welcome to NeuroTalk :)
I noticed that you have found and posted in the Parents of Bipolar Children forum. There are several parents of bipolar children who post in the main Bipolar forum, so you may want to post there as well.
We also have a Childrens Health forum where you can meet and talk to other parents. The Childrens Health forum is not specific to bipolar disorder, but it's a good forum to be able to talk to other parents who have children with health concerns.
Have you ever read the book The Bipolar Child? They have a website too - http://www.bipolarchild.com/
I know that a lot of the parents on the Bipolar forum have discussed this book and recommended it to others as a great resource for information.
I hope you find that support you need here at Neurotalk. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Arielles Mom,
My daughter is bipolar and right now she is stable. With the right medication, therapy and maturity your daughter can live a fairly normal life. So far my daughter has not been able to work because of her anxiety problems.

I have a cousin who is bi-polar, and he grew up in a time and place where such things were all lumped together as just being "different". For a long time during his childhood he was either left to suffer through his condition alone, or given strong medications that simply masked his problems by making him nearly a vegetable. I was a kid then myself, and had no idea what was happening or why. Now I feel terrible guilt that the rest of us kids tended to ostrasize my cousin because of his "strangeness". Anyway, I'm not sure what prompted me to suddenly write all that, but I am very happy to see that your daughter has a mom who cares so much, and is obviously not going to go through the hell that my cousin did. God bless you and your daughter both, and I hope you find plenty of help and support on this site.
Very Best of Wishes,
Idealist
