Hi Folks,
Last night I ended up in the ER thanks to a Dr. not keeping up on my medical records. I received a call from a clinic last wk. requesting that I make an appt. to have a mamogram done, I made the appt. only for the clinic to refuse to do the mamogram because I was no longer seeing any Drs. in that clinic and I had a family Dr. in a different location. I requested to speak to the administrator and I told him that the clinic needs to do a better job keeping up with peoples medical records then I went into a TC sz. the first one in 34 yrs. The last time I had a TC sz. was when I first started having sz. and was on no meds.
My head got banged up really good where they did surgery and they called an ambulance and sent me to the E.R. without my permission or my husbands. Now they want me to pay all the medical bills but I refuse to since stress brought on the sz. do to the jerks messing up medical records from 2003. I'm also out of work for a few days and I may have to go back to the hospital in Rochester my epi and neurosurgeon are concerned that the flap on the RTL has become loose.
I'm sorry to carry on I just needed to vent to people who understand E. because the Drs. didn't even know what to do they had me laying flat on my stomach instead of my side and then they drugged me up good in the ER doing x-rays and a CT scan everything came back negative but my local hospital isn't very good nor are they updated in neurology.
Thanks for your time and May God Bless You!
Sue
Sue when I had a sz in NYC subway they brought me to an ER and I didn't want the tests . Than the hospital kept saying to me the only way to get well
was to have the tests. They forced the tests on me.
Make a long story short , they billed my parents and my parents refused to pay and they never bothered us. MY mom sent a letter of complaint to the adminstrator and that was the end of it.
You should do the same.........
Good Luck, (((hugs)))
Hoping your injury didn't hurt you in any way.

oh sue i am so sorry.

first they trigger a GM and then they want you to pay for it? sounds like an excellent money making scheme to me.
don't pay them, tell them you are going to sue for malpractice. if they did all this stuff without you signing for it you are not liable. did you sign anything? even if you did i bet it would not be legal if you were post ictal.
there ought to be something that we could carry around refusing to go to an ER. i remember several people having this problem in the past.
just hope that this is your last ever GM. weren't you smart to leave this clinic and find a better doctor?

Hi Folks,
Thanks for your support. I've made the decision to report the clinic to the medical conduct board and today they are supposed to have a meeting but they don't want me there so my lawyer is ready to take legal action.
I just can't believe that the Drs. there didn't know what to do when I had the sz. Today my head is still bothering me a lot on the RTL where surgery was done and now things are getting blurry for me. My epi doesn't want me to work for a few days. Take care and May God Bless All of You!

Howdy Sue!
Condolances from a fellow Rochestarian!
If you go to the Strong Epilepsy Center I wouldn't
be a bit surprised if they also misplaced a few records.
I haven't seen them since they moved to Westfall Rd.
in May.
Just as an angle to work on...
Since they requested it in the firstplace,
how can they refuse to do it?

Howdy Dave,
I can't complain about Rochester not keeping my records they found my med. records from back in 1972 when I first started having sz. with a former neuro. whose now retired.
In regards as to why they wouldn't do the test at the clinic on me there reason was because my family Dr. isn't with them but yet they still called me to make an appt. I feel they were doing it just to make some money for the clinic. I'm still waiting to hear from the clinic with the administrators decision all I know was Strong was very angry with them for doing what they did. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

Hi Everyone,
I saw my GP today and was told that I have post concussive syndrome and thats' the reason why I get dizzy, have headaches, and blurry vision. The clinic called my GP and told him they felt I was faking a GM sz. That's when I told my GP why would I have 2 brain surgeries to reduce my sz. only to try and fake a GM sz.? My GP agreed with me that the clinic was a bunch of jerks and not to smart. He felt they said this so when I finish reporting them to the Medical Conduct Board they will have a leg to stand on but right now I have both my GP and my epi's nurse backing me up 100% not to mention a lawyer who I will be talking with soon.
Take care and May God Bless You!

Sue-
I am very distressed to read all of this. I hope you are doing better soon. And that those people at the clinic get roasted over an open fire!
It is horrible to see that even the medical community is so poorly educated about epilepsy. It is bad enough dealing with the general ignorance by a good deal of people, but it frustrates me more when doctors or nurses are ignorant about the condition. I don't expect experts, but I do expect them to know the general first-aid procedures for when someone is having a seizure and being able to recognize a GM.
Hugs to you...

Hi Everyone,
This evening I got a call from the administrator of the clinic telling me that they would cover for my ambulance and emergency room but only what my health ins. wouldn't cover which is 20%. I told the administrator that my health ins. isn't going to pay anything the clinic is and that they also have to pay me for my time off from work 1 1/2 days. The administrator told me" I will have to speak with the other administrators." That's when I spoke up and said: " You can't say a word about me without me being present remember the Private Policy Act!" He then got edgy when I told him he would be dealing with my lawyer so we will have to wait and see what happens. Thanks again for all your support and understanding. May God Bless You!

Hi Folks,
I called my lawyers office today and I will know next week if he will take my case and go after the clinic administrator. The biggest problem is a lot of the lawyers I've spoken with tell my that my E. is a preigsting disease and that's why they won't take the case. I feel that's a bunch of you know what and they are discriminating myself as well as everyone else who has E. but take my word I won't back down and let people get away with cutting us down because we have E. Here's wishing all of you well and May God Bless You!

Hi Folks,
Just to update you the Clinics lawyer had a meeting today with the administrators and they are refusing to pay me for my time I lost from work, and they are only willing to pay my out of pocket expenses in regards to any medical bills that my health ins. doesn't cover. What burns me up is they had the meeting without me even being there so how am I to know what was said. I feel this should also be reported to EFA because they were stating all of this was my fault do to the fact I have had sz. for 34 yrs. but as I've said before I never had a TC until they pulled all of this garbage. Here's wishing all of you well and May God Bless You!
