View Full Version : Dell workstation stuck in 'sleep state'

Following a de-install my Dell Workstation 670 was rebooting. It seemed to shut down ok, with each program closing down without a problem. However, it would not reboot back up. The machine entered a 'sleep state' according to the pre POST diagnostic light code pattern being shown. Each method to reactivate from sleep state, as suggested by Dell manual, has failed. I have since tried several things/combinations. These include turning the machine off completely, removing power cable and reactivating, but nothing seems to prevent the machine from immediately re-entering the pre POST sleep state. I have also removed all USB devices as part of the above attempts to power back up machine. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried using the emergency reboot disk?
(a floppy inserted in the floppy drive, prior to powering up?)
Most CPU's have the search to boot for the floppy before the hard drive.
If nothing is in the floppy drive, then it moves on to the hard drive.
The reboot disk should be there in your files, somewhere.

Hi Bob, Thank you for the reply. Finally have Dell on the telephone here and we have just resolved issue. Breakdowning the machine has cured the problem. Will bear in mind your suggestion next time
