Hi. My mom is diabetic and anemic, plus high blood pressure and kidney pbs. She used to take "glucophage" but her doctor stopped it. Now she's on "insuline flexpen". Her kidney is not functionning well, so the Dr prescribed her "eprex 2000" every other day. She has high ferritin and is also anemic. Could you advice what type of iron should she take?
Thanks.

Hi Manal and welcome to NeuroTalk
sorry your mom is having the kifney problems
we have some members who are knowledgable on best supplements to take with certain meds etc, notably mrsD, and so I hope she will be checking in today and can give you some advice
The doctor should make the decisions for your mom.
Age is a factor as well. Some older patients require other means for
anemia improvement other than iron. New studies show using ProCrit
for them works better.
Iron should always be monitored by blood tests when given to patients.
Doses, etc should be determined by the doctor.

thank ou for the advice but i still have worries cause she did the bone marrow cytology and this is the result if you can help:
heteregenuous and rich bone marrow smear ; megakaryocytes are present.
myeloid lineage present at all stages of maturation; M:E=2-3:1.
erythroid lineage present at all stages of maturation withdysplastic features.
Plasma cells:3-4%.
is this good or bad? please reply
I am sorry, but this question is highly specialized and cannot be answered
on a board like this.
I think you should direct this question to your mother's physician.
Typically on the tests themselves are interpretations, as not all doctors know
the finer points of hematology. So obtain a copy of that, and your answer
may be there.
Good luck.
