this is part of the city scape i painted on the walls of the game room. the scene goes around the whole room. at night it is like playing pool on top of a skyscraper. ;)

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j147/ChynaBirdd/hr2327091-9.jpg

this is my dining room. i added it cuz it's creative. :p i did paint the walls. hehe. i did all the designing and decorating myself. can you tell i like color?

i have always loved to draw and create things. i was just never encouraged. my oldest sister was the "true artist" in the family. i didn't really share anything i painted until my kids were in school. then i did some murals in their school.

i love to sew.( teddy bear are my fave) make things from wood and metal. and cook! i'm not much a recipe user, i tend to read cookbooks like novels, then come up with my own creations. usually modified healthy versions, since i did that for a living.

here is a metal work i made. it is hanging my bedroom above the fireplace. kinda hard to see, but it is woven metal flashing. i have sold a few of these since making mine.

These are simply great! I am enjoying this thread very much.

You certainly have alot of energy (wish I had some).

How long did it take you to do the "movie group". What kind of paint did you use? Regular wall paint, or acrylic artist types?

It must be hard to move and leave these behind.

I have been thinking of a mural of sorts too... to go over the fireplace at our summer home.

First photo:
The white space used to be bare cement. I sealed it with UGL sealer (which is white) a few years ago (oil based). I'd take down the old boat name and put it higher on the wood paneling above...
The sealer did help with the water leakage that sometimes comes in from the chimney.

second photo:
and do a scene like this one:
including a freighter doing upstream on the left. I wanted to do it last summer, but rather poohed out with fatigue.

It is a fairly rough surface, and I don't know if acrylic will hold on the base coat. Any suggestions? All would be appreciated.

hi mrsd and thank you for the compliment.

i use whatever paint i have. in my kitchen i mainly use house paint, so the colors would match the rest of the house. the other paints that work well and come in all colors are the craft paints by Plaid. they are inexpensive, less than a dollar at walmart. and sure saves time on mixing.

Plaid also has a gel type of medeum that you can mix in the paints to extend the drying time. this is wonderful when you are shading and blending colors. oh...and watch the real cheap brands of the craft paints, they are very thin and the colors tend to fade fast. learned this the hard way years ago.

you do want to make sure your paint is thick. thin paint can run. tubes of artist paint are more expensive. for a large project...not in my budget.

since you used an oil based sealer, then a thin coat of a something like kilz would be best to prep the surface. drys fast and really seals any discolorations. when i painted the murals at the schools i used this. kilz now comes in many colors and you can probably find the right shade for a good background and save you time there.

i use chalk to draw before painting. you can see that on grandmonkeys hummer. just disapears and no worries about lines showing.

the movie crowd scene took me 2 days. i drew it one day and painted the next. it only has a few colors, so that saves time. the biggest time saver on that one.....i used a black paint pen for all the lines! :D then all i had to do was fill in with paint.

i think that scene would be beautiful mrsd. i can pm you with other hints if you decide to do this.

 julie, if you decide to...let me know. i have lots of paint brushes...and gallons of paint.

oh..you are so right mrsd. leaving these behind is pretty sad. but.....fresh walls await me somewhere. and the time it takes to paint, it sure gives me something to do when i can't sleep because of pain. it is quiet...so i don't wake up the family. :)

Why am I just now finding this thread!!! Curious, it's wonderful...you are so talented..where on earth do you find the time? My favorite is the kitchen...and the metal work! And I love color....maybe in my next life or if I ever move from this farm house.

Thanks for sharing...I am so impressed!

Oh wow, Chemar wasn't exaggerating when she said you are quite the artist/designer - these are so imaginative, your house looks really interesting, what a great idea.

I'm not at all surprised you've sold some metal sculpture - I really think sculpture makes an interior, just adds so much. I can imagine that particular sculpture would look great anywhere at all - and be very interesting to see "for real", because of the light and reflections...

Thank you *so* much for putting these up, Curious. I really like your drawing style too, lively and fluid. Thank you!!

all the best :)

WOWZER!!!!!

I am TOTALLY impressed!!!! I love your artwork monkeydoody!!! I feel like I just stumbled onto pages from one of my favorite 'house & beauty' type magazines! Can't get enough of those.

Though, I never do anything about it. Don't have the energy that you apparently do! I always have ideas of how to fix a room but they just don't seem to come together.

well here is what i have started ... only a few good lines but it is a start...
hope you enjoy it half as much as i enjoy all your way creative art! Thanks again ... this is about that abstract ... remember????

Curious
Oh luau carrier from over the dunes
Splashed in color from head to feet
Bringing sunshine of smiles.
A take a break
Rejuvenate.
Happy maker
Thy Inspirationer
Peace and Joy adorn the wall
Touches eyes and mind alike
As I look I hear it call
The sadness out of sight.
it dances away
all threw the day
and at night it nevers sleeps.

WOW! Curious, you're so talented.
I love the dark purple colour in your dining room. :D
Everyone thought I was silly to buy an aubergine lounge suite (not sure what you all call them... it's what everyone sits on in the lounge/living room) but it is so beautiful.
The cubist abstract painting... is that straight on a wall or is it on a canvas or board? Wondering if you can take that with you. What a pity you will be leaving all that behind. The scene in the media room is just wonderful. You seem to be able to pick up on such different styles... like themes of styles to suit the particular environment. I love the cityscape too!

Well done. You're wonderfully talented.

thank you lara. i would love to see a pic of your lounge suite. sounds like something i would love. :)

that abstract..is on canvas, but attached to the wall. i can remove it. thank goodness.

here is the dining room after i painted it this weekend. i put the podiums with the statue faces off to the sides. it looks like such a different room without the purple.

Curious, I'm not posting the whole thing, but this pic. gives an idea of the colour. My timber is all old balinese style although the little side table in this pic. is Chinese. The colour goes well with all my jumbled up mix of precious (precious to me that is) things from different places.

Isn't it amazing the difference in that dining room using a different colour. Amazing! Totally different "feel".

p.s. the little feet belong to our much loved but departed Isis
