Yep, I was banned from Healthboards last month. Apparently for inappropriate posts. All I did was want to get in contact with a 14 year old guy with CP, well it seems like that was forbidden and before I knew it I was banned. I only had like 20 posts, must be a record.

I really wanted to meet this guy. :(

I was banned from there too, about a year and a half ago. Such a shame that board is so restrictive. There are a ton of adults with CP who post on that board-- way more than who post(ed) on BT. I'm surprised more HB posters didn't find their way over to BT.

and just for the record if any moderater from HealthBoards ever sees this: I HATE YOUR BOARD AND FEEL THAT YOU DO A DISSERVICE TO PEOPLE WHO POST THERE BY BEING SO UTTERLY AND NEEDLESSLY RESTRICTIVE. I'm Tham, 48, from Malaysia. I found your board
after doing a search on Google with the keywords
"healthboards, banned and Gestapo" !
They suspended two days me ago. After doing some
research on Medline to help a female poster in their
"Heart Diseases" subforum who had the difficult and
complex heart condition ARVD (Arrhythmogenic Right
Ventricular Dysplasia, which I knew nothing off before
reading her post ), I had made a very long post the night
before suggesting supplements, backed with studies from
Medline, which I had to reproduce in full since they did not
allow any kind of links to be posted.

The next day, when I tried to log in, there was a message that
my account had been suspended with the note "... posting
materials by other users" and asking me to get in touch
with their mods. My post had also beem removed.

I wrote in, giving them a piece of my mind. The transcript of
my mail and their reply is reproduced below. Within moments
yesterday, I was banned, and several moments later, my IP
was .... blocked. I further replied to this, telling them that a
quick check on the net
appears to reveal that their forum moderators have a reputation
of Nazi Gestapo or SS concentration camp officers, to which
they did not respond, but I forgot to save a draft of this mail.

I was banned yesterday. Are they for real???? Get a chuckle from this.....

When I logged in after posting the night before to someone who suffers from something similar to me, I received a message from Healthboards that my account was suspended because I posted my email address. So, I emailed the administrator the following:

I got "canned" from Healthboards.com by Moderator2. In another life I'm thinking maybe he was one of those "Jack-booted, Brown-shirted SS Troopers" you could find goose-stepping through Berlin in the 1930's!

Anyway, "Klaus" gave absolutely no specific reason for my banning from Healthboards.com except an email that said, "INAPPROPRIATE POST". :rolleyes:

To this day I don't have a clue about why I got banned from Healthboards.com! ZERO! NOTHING! :confused:

Regardless, it's really not worth my time to "appeal for reinstatement" to Healthboards.com

I cannot believe I managed to find this thread because I just got banned yesterday from HB. I couldn't believe how nasty the moderator got with me! I was really upset! I thought it was just me but when I stumbled onto this website and found others that thought that moderator was "out there," it made me feel so much better. He/she/it was SO rude and nasty and I even attempted to make nice and just got met with more rudeness & game playing. I can envision that moderator sitting at his/her computer, typing one of those stupid emails asking for information already given, just smiling away thinking about how much aggravation he's putting on somebody. It's really cruel because many people are suffering from chronic illnesses and certainly don't need somebody with a superiority complex making their life even more difficult.

Anyway -- just having this thread made me feel so much better. I'll introduce myself soon in the new members forum.

Well, in hindsight, I got myself banned by falling into the moderators trap. I let myself get irritated at his/her shenanigans and posted something I shouldn't have. It's still my fault and I take responsibility, but it's not like I didn't get a nice push from that person (and I use the term loosely because I'm not sure that moderator is actually a human being).

I just realized that this thread is on the CP board and I do not have CP. I was just so excited to find other people that had had a problem with HB that I had to post.

I have Muscular Dystrophy. I'm very happy to know you all though and hope you'll let me say hi once in a while even though my illness is different.

Imagine that.....I too have been banned from the health boards. Something about my email address and then I was told my username was a product name. I work for Dremel (are we allowed to say that here?) and I used the name dremelite because that's what we call ourselves here. Dremel did in fact come out with something called The Dremelite so that was no longer acceptable. When I replied stating that I was unaware that I could not use a product name they said being unaware does not excuse you from breaking the rules you agreed to when you registered. I guess I was to suppose to grovel and beg forgiveness at that point. I told them I thought they were hostile and I would not require their help any longer as I was no longer interested in their message boards. BANNED!!!!!

I too have been banned from the health boards and I'd like to vent, if I may.
The reason that I was banned was because I posted to different boards the same suggestion, related to different ailments. I was quickly called on the carpet for it. I was not spamming or posting duplicate messages, only the same suggestion on different boards. Excuse me! When I protested, stating that my dressing down was unfair, I was banned. I still don't see what it was that I did wrong. The rules state that the moderators have the last word, but give me a break, fair is fair. I DID NOTHING WRONG! Where do they get these moderators? Rejects from the police academy? :confused:

I was once banned from healthboards as well. It was actually pretty hysterical, some on the dieting forum said that calories was all that was important in dieting. So I responded with that if you eat 100% of your calories from cake that you will not lose weight but instead get fat.
That was it I was banned for that final post. They said it was a personal attack. I only used you as a general thing. There were 2 other posts that got me in trouble as well but they were also innocent like I one I just mentioned.I thought it was me, but I am happy to see that I am in good company here :grouphug: I too don't have cp, but I thouight I'd share this tidbit. And I do agree with the guy who said that the AMA probably runs that board.

That board is a scary place. I have checked it out a few times for MS information and there is one poster who practically runs it and she gives out information like she knows everything there is to know about MS, and meds, and a lot of it is just wrong or misleading.

I am wondering if she is one of the mods and picks and chooses who to ban based on her mood that day!

I asked to post some information a couple of months ago, according to their TOS, and never even got a reply from the Adminstrator. Just plain rude. I thought about just posting it and getting banned...but since I didn't get a reply to my request I figured this person who posts all the time in the MS forum was part of the team. That was good enough for me. ;)

So don't feel bad if you've been banned from there...it's not a very reliable place for information. This place is much better...and much more reliable. Shoot, you get better information from Wikipedia than that forum! LOL!

As I think I posted earlier, I was banned for asking Moderator 7 to show some compassion.

We all know moderators are underpaid and overworked, but the moderators at Healthboards banned me for life for asking for compassion for another person.

I told them, going in, I was on heavy morphine for pain and might make mistakes. They did "forgive me" for one..I think. But at this moment I am seeking that they be required to remove my name or they can remove my name and postings, or they can remove the term "Banned" from next to my name. Their choice so far. My disabilities were used against me when they knew I had them going in. If they are decent people, why not just tell us if we can't follow the rules, we have to leave. I did leave for awhile.

I intend to see that their support structures are notified of pending legal actions and hopefully some will provide adult leadership for them. If you are serious, and not just blowing hot air, read who supports their forum and write them of the moderator abuses.

I would like to see the forum continue with real people running it, not these power mad despots.

I can't wait to see their defense for banning me when I asked for some compassion for a man who had just lost everything and seemed borderline suicidal to me. I am proud that I asked for compassion, I am angry that my "name" is being smeared by people not fit to be in the room with caring people.

Ok, I briefly scanned thru this thread and what are the HealthBoards..the forums at Braintalk?? If that's the case...yep, I'll join that ban club too. And it was totally crazy that I was banned for 3 months for simply asking about the background of Ash Wednesday this past spring. Their stupid "no religion allowed" stuff. Now you know why I only go there for a good laugh or if I'm so bored I can't stand it. Remember the old days yrs and yrs ago when we used to get a dozen or more into the chitchat room? THEIR room sure isn't that way now...empty most of the time. Know why???? Cause those of us that aren't snots and extremely RUDE have all come HERE...We are the champions and their loss is Neurotalks gain...or something of that sort. I had a close friend who lost everything, had no one to turn to, and was suicidal. It made me feel suicidal. Seemed kinda rude to skip out on him too. :rolleyes:

I'd blow off my steam, the folks in the Sanctuary would give me hugs and kisses, then before you know it I was outside playing again. :D Didn't happen this time because my friend was a "savage Indian." I was greatly enjoying an evening Bible Study(will start again in Sept after a summer break) in the spring and the leader had asked us to "research the background of Ash Wednesday for nxt week". Not being Catholic myself, I had HEARD the term, but didn't know 100% how it had come about.

I go into Santuary for Spiritual support on BT forums, complain of how I had been "warned" by a chat mod and another moderator for simply saying I WISH we could talk religion. I showed a lot of dislike in the terms of service that they'd set, etc. Kathy, it wasn't your being down...it was their crazy rules that got me banned. But know what??? I think I could count on one hand the number of posts that I've actually put in that forum since the ban was lifted!!! LOL

Being here for one another in times of need..being supportive whether it's offering a shoulder to lean on, saying a prayer, making a phone call...when we most need it. As a result of my wanting to grow in my faith, I end up being shut out from any communications in BT for a month, from forums for 3 months. Now YOU tell me...is this what a person needs when they're depressed and feeling blue ??????

Neuro Talk so far exceeds the friendliness and "keeps ya smiling" that I saw in 7+ yrs at "that other place".

Keep smilin, praying, and don't give up hope of someday finding a cure for all our illnesses, aches, and pains...(even if our pains are from BT!!! HA HA)

I told them I used the same ID in other forums and I considered it defamation of character to put "Banned" next to my name without saying why I was banned.
I also emailed some other people who may have asked them nicely to do it.

Regardless, I think putting "Banned" next to a person's name without explaining why they are banned is rude and potentially libelous. Lord knows we have an attorney behind every tree out here. Most are good, decent people, a few aren't.

This thread cracked me up! I just started posting over there to help a friend get correct information to a person after someone posted something silly (incorrect) after her post... she has been booted twice. The rules of no urls only mean too that verification is so hard - I wanted to show that the information posted was incorrect but noooooooo, you cannot post a pubmed link to show good information either! And some poor girl in another thread needed salt tablets (we addison people need salt while everyone else avoids it) and I could not tell her how to get them...

I know some groups have good intentions, but illness itself isn't a classroom. We lie in bed, puke our guts out, blow our noses, scream in pain, and cry in fear. That's why we stay home from school. :p

We should behave ourselves and not overwhelm our fellow sickies, but we shouldn't have to follow strict classroom rules during our home confinement. We should be able to chew gum and pass notes to each other if we feel well enough to do so. We should be able to cry on each other's shoulders when we feel the need to. We should even be allowed to spit in the bucket when necessary, as long as we're mindful of our neighbors and we shoot as straight as possible (no personal attacks). :D

If we stray off topic, oh well. The OP can always add more flowers to the mix if they want to say anything further on the original subject. Have you ever tried to hold a serious conversation during a very high fever? It's almost impossible to keep focused. Once the fever passes, there's no rule saying you can't resume the conversation. :p

I am new here and this is my first post. I too was one of the "victims" of a banning at the site healthboards.com. I have absolutely no idea why either. As far as I know, I did not post anything which violated any of their seemingly hundreds of rules! Well, maybe not that many, but jeez. I am a nail tech by trade, and I did make a post which referred to the word "eponychium", which is a medical term that describes what is essentially the fold of skin on the proximal end of your fingernail. Its what most people refer to as your cuticle. Now get this. WHen I previewed the post, the word have been modified with the use of astericks, so now it appeared as "epony****m" I made a comment at the end of my post stating what I had just found and that I could not figure out for the life of me why that was happening. Then I submitted the post. Maybe for some screwy reason, their Nazi-like automated censoring software or whatever its called didn't like my word, or more specifically, part of it. Go figure, the only parts that were astericked out were "chiu". Now, I am seriously baffled. I never was good at word games, so maybe one of you can help this clueless girl out a bit:-) WHat curse, or otherwise "bad" word contains the letters "chiu"??? I can not think of anything, but that really does not surprise me! Then I posted a message on, I don't know which one, but a forum where registration problems are dealt with and the mods deal with answering them - if you call it that - and posed the same question to them, why? This is a standard medical term which can be found in any medical dictionary in publication, and its the proper term in describing that particular portion of the fingernail. I'm sooo baffled. I won't drag this on much longer, I promise (need to vent because it just happened to me less than 6 hours or so ago!), but I'm guessing that is the reason why I was banned. I did not find out until the next time I tried to login and got a message that only stated "your account has been suspended. Reason: Inappropriate posts" or something like that. I'm paraphrasing it. It said I could appeal it, so I immediately did. And I have to admit that I was a bit ticked off at the time, so I really doubt that I will be let back on the board considering the content of my reply, err, appeal, to their suspending me. I really gave them a piece of mind. Seriously, I did. I was NOT nice about it in the least bit. I didn't threaten, as they do, I just laid the facts out, and threw in a bit of personal opinion as well. They probably won't like the fact that I wasn't courteous to them. If you have ever seen it on their site, it specifies that when communicating with them, you must do so "respectfully", but its OK if they talk to people like they are trash. I have not heard back from them, and may not ever hear from them, but I won't be crying over it. The whole thing of banning for reasons unknown is just absurd. And to think that you can appeal the ban - read: kiss their butt and beg for forgiveness - is just outrageous, IMHO.
OK, nuff said about that. I rambled long enough! I just needed to vent and I feel better already! Thanks for listening. I hope I don't get banned from this site! That is the very first time it has ever happened to me and I am still stunned. I'll get over it by later today though. They are NOT that big of a deal. Total Nazi's though. As I called them in my "appeal", control freaks, and more I must admit. But I hope to become active here soon. BTW, I had only like 10 posts, and I looked, and they had deleted every single one of them! Not the allagedly "Inappropriate" one(s), but ALL of them. How sad. I picture it as them being made to feel almighty in their position of moderator, but its only on there, and outside of it, it doesn't mean a thing. Maybe they are just basically the type of insecure people who, given something like a moderator position at some junky site like theirs, can feel better about themselves, or something like that.

I tried to smooth things over pointing out the flaw in the scare tactics that were being used on them. That really threw one of them into a rage, another person put their 2 cents in and next thing I know all posts from mine on were deleted for arguing! :mad: I guess EVERYTHING you read on the internet is true, even if it has no medical fact. If you point that fact out, the moderators say you are arguing.

I have been trying to sneakily (is that a word?) direct people here so that I don't have to go there any more. Literally, I will go to Healthboards until my head is about to blow up, then come here to have a good time. This is the best time on the net. :partytime2:

My surgery was a result of a work injury. Given my occupation, I really need to come up with a better story. I was taking out the garbage! :nopity: I managed to herniate 3 discs. Do you know how foolish that makes me feel??? :D

Yes I do. I am a landscape designer. About 4 years ago, I was just getting ready to start a huge commercial landscape job at an RV resort. I was out walking the two dogs. I had a cocker spaniel and a lab at the time (no cocker anymore :( ). It was early morning, and the place that I walked the dogs was up this little grassy knoll. As I was headed down the hill, I slipped (I do that!), and my left ankle went under and I heard this pop, pop. Oh, not good, I thought. I was about 50 feet from my RV. Dogs on leashes.

I tried to stand up...OUCH! Hmmm...not good. So, I hobbled...hop hop hop, hanging on to the trees, to the RV, threw to dogs inside and grabbed my truck keys, wallet and drove myself to the ER in this small town.

It's about 6:30 AM.

Yep, you guessed it. Broken ankle. And badly sprained, most likely torn ligaments. That was one pop.

I am by myself. DH is an airline pilot out on a trip. As usual. X-ray Tech is brutal with my ankle, has me in tears. It's Sunday. His day off. They can't set my ankle there, I have to go to Boise, 120 miles away. They've given me vicodin for the pain so 'officially' I can't drive :eek:

Since I am alone, they want to life flight me to Boise. NOT. Vicodin? I have MS, I take that stuff all the time. It doesn't do anything for me...yutz...

I convince the ER doc to release me in the care of another doc (whom he knows) to drive me home.

I spend the next 8 weeks in a blasted cast. Oh yeah. :eek:

Now, how am I gonna explain this? I've got a 55 acre job --- Rent a golf cart! :D

Got the job done. Won a huge award for the best landscaping of a new business for 3 counties!

So, yep BwithT, I understand! :hug: Long, hot summer with that stupid cast (and I have MS and of course, can't do steroids with a broken bone...)

Not even a job related injury! Dumb dumb dumb! The golf cart was fun tho! I kept it all summer, eventually bought it and terrorized the resort for 2 years! :D :D :D

Yeah, I've been kicked around a time or two on boards too. For me, the worst was over 5 years ago when the TV advertised an "Ask the White House" site to ask a free question.

I asked my question, but then had another question. I guess we were only allowed one because when I submitted my second question, I got a big warning on my screen saying: "You can also e-mail us, using the left-hand sidebar on every page. We should warn you, though, that George Walker Bush is not amused by spam mail. He is the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces. He will hurt you." :eek:

And yes, I am shouting. After several unsuccessful emails, I spoke to an attorney (a friend) and he said it is close to defamation of character because I am known by this "name" on many forums. And while the internet escaped the first ADA lawsuit, they may not escape one like mine.

I wrote HB and their main supporter, telling them I wanted them to remove my
"name" or "banned" or both. I told them they are welcome to remove my post, saying it was at the request of the poster. Save face.

They are in California, like myself. I told them going in that I was handicapped. 100% disabled per Social Security description. The fact they accepted me, after I told them I would try to follow their rules, but in fact, I DO forget. Then they banned me because I forgot and addressed Moderator 7,asking for compassion for the man we were talking about. We are not allowed to directly address their moderators. Strange people. My morphine has pretty well messed up my short term memory. I won't remember making this post in an hour or so. Weird. I was Type A to the max...now I feel like I am following my dad into early Alzheimer's. Plus my oldest daughter and 3 of my first cousins have been diagnosed with MS.

They removed my "name" and left other things in place. They could have done more, but they didn't. These are the only bad people I have met in the
forums...that is, that are moderators. Hopefully they will get some relief for these overworked individuals. It is obvious that they are overworked to the point they are making poor choices.

I found a better forum here. I know of several other forums that are also good, but ....since I can't remember the rules here, I won't mention them.

I read their FAQs once and it is clear that people like me are not welcome there.
I have read their forums, and many important questions go unanswered. I certainly was not impressed or found it a place for growth/change/improvement.
So I never joined and only read there a few times.

I got the feeling that Doctors run that place...or something similar. And once a person (sorry I forget who) told me it was started by some disgruntled people from the old old days of Braintalk, back when Braintalk was part of Mass General. That there was antipathy there. I don't know if that is true however.

To try it out, I made up a pseudonym and added to different threads.

I was banned within hours for using my "real name" as a pseudonym. I didn't even last a day ! They also removed everything I had added.

They say I can appeal, and I have, pointing out it wasn't my real name or anything like it ! However, I bet they'll find another spurious reason to ban me.

I'm amazed they have any members left.

Banned again ! within an hour ! They also removed everything I had added again.

One woman was not getting any answer to her detailed question about DBS. I merely mentioned that there was a specialist DBS forum. I didn't give the web site. I didn't even name it. Yet they claimed "promoting another forum".

I give up. No matter what I added they would ban me, just as they have banned just about everyone else for the most spurious of reasons.

I feel much better after finding this site. I thought it was just me. I got banned for what they say was posting my email address at the bottom of a post. I don't think I did it and if it was done it was not intentional. I pleaded for mercy from the head moderator. My penance was two Our Fathers. I was reinstated and posted a couple of messages yesterday. Got on today and was banned again. This time I know I did not post my email address. Their reason was "Refuses Instructions". I do not know what I did. Now I can't even access the Website from my computer as I never logged out and it remebered me. I feel like I am being pecked to death by a chicken with those moderators. Arrogant. But I now know I have company.

I am glad I found this, I thought I was the only one!! I was banned twice! First time, someone was talking about dry skin, and I told them I used natural soap, and it helped me, someone else recommended Dove..

Needless to say the Dove person was NOT banned, but I was, and I never even mentioned a brand name!

Next time was another account, I was posting about blood clots, and needed info, well I got replies and I posted a few times, then bam, got banned again! I contacted them, but they sent the most hateful e-mail and made my wife cry when she read it!!

I tried to do a web search about a problem I am having, spent hours finding stuff, then when I read the search results and saw someone EACTLY like me, I clicked healthboards link, and it said my IP was banned!! What the hell man, I didn't do anything bad, especially for that, and what happens when people try to find relevant info on a conditon and they won't allow you to see it?:confused::(

DocJohn is absolutely correct when he said that Healthboards is just another revenue center for Icentric. Their excuse for not allowing off-board or private contact is privacy is a thinly disguised attempt to keep the boards active so that they will be attractive to advertisers. The only urls that are allowed are .govs and ones that direct you to their partnerships, like WebMD. Some but not all .edu urls are allowed and it didn't take me too long to see that they all seem to be the ones that have no urls to other sites contained within those pages. Even then, it is best to have those links preapproved by email before posting -- they then instruct you to indicate that the link has been preapproved when you post.

I have been a Healthboards member longer than any other forum because that's where I first found myself when I was confused, scared, upset and desperate for information. The vast majority of people get there for the same reason. It's an easy set of boards to find because it IS a commercial site. I did eventually get to other sites and most of the real education I've gotten from online forums came from these other places. Some Healthboards boards are better than others and there ARE some knowledgeable people there but inaccurate information runs RAMPANT. The population of regulars is small due to the transient nature of the site and high incidence of banning, making the perspectives very narrow and Healthboards does not intervene when opinion appears as fact -- in most cases they don't know and if they did, they wouldn't care. It's allll about the $$.

The problem is that when people come there they don't know that what they're reading is wrong. There are a lot of self-proclaimed experts there who are anything but. I know what I personally am going to get out of the site is limited, if anything at all. I still go there but now it's to help others. I don't like that by doing that I'm helping Healthboards on their mission but by the same token, I was not dxed so long ago that I don't remember what being scared feels like.

I'm not defending Healthboards at all. I've been so angry at what they do that I researched the company myself and tried to see if I could do anything about them but while they've violated something very important, they have not violated the law.

That's not to say that I don't sometimes get amused when I've seen someone be banned or posts deleted, but when it's someone who is really desperate for help, it saddens me.

Just wanted to throw in another perspective.

Yes, you nut. I sure did! :D Now THAT one (and also herekitty) DID make me laugh. (I think you guys may have set a record on the MS board! :D) (Oh, and because of you guys and one other person that I haven't been able to identify, there is a WARNING on the MS board that's only visible when you sign in that says you cannot talk about other message boards or any other members you may know from other message boards!!!)

But, I knew that what you would be looking for there you wouldn't find anyway. Like I said before though, a reason TO go there is to help others. It just really, really makes me sad.

Snoopy has been posting a little on the MS board in the last few months and it's been a relief to see her there! Truly, there are a lot of people there who need help. :(

I was banned from there too. I have lots of good info on there, and one was hunting me re my info in another case. Another who visited there told me this morther was looking for me. I went back and changed my name. I bacame her mentor for a procedure she was going to have since I have had it as well. What I did was to put another website for folks to check out. If you notice, that site is rather commercial. so I imagine that they want to keep the "business" there instead of sending it to other sites. Couldn't possibly have the public's interest as priority. I am so happy I found this thread!! I was banned twice from healthboards.

The first time was for posting a message with too much detail. I was trying to point the other poster to a site that would give more current information and had support groups available. I admit I was trying to get around their rules, which I think are ludicrous.

The next time, I rejoined again under a different name, I was banned for coming to the aid of another poster who was given a public dressing down my a mod for some minor (aren't they all) infraction. That time I did try to state my case for reinstatement, but was denied because I refused to grovel to the extent that was obviously required.

After reading through this thread, I feel much better about the ban. I now realize that I am among good company, and that losing all of us is definitely their loss!

I have problems with prescription drugs and I was telling one of the regulars about a few herb combinations I take and she wrote and said she can't find them where she is and asked where she can get them or the brand. Some health food stores carry them. I wrote the moderator and asked if I could give the brand as I had seen other brand names posted there. I also mentioned these were herbs put out by a master herbalist and there are websites but I had no intention mentioning that but if she googles the name and finds it, it isn't my fault. The poster also wanted the name of some good books on herbs. I told that to the moderator and also mentioned I have no affiliation with the company but she had written over 30 books and can I give her the name as the author, at least, and recommend a few of her books.

The moderator was very snotty. She said nobody should be asking things like that. (they do all the time.) Apparently she overlooked the fact I said I WAS NOT going to refer to a website and told me that THAT is against the rules. She said I could give the titles of a couple of books and name the author and let it go at that. I did exactly what she said - and the red thing showed up immediately. Since then two others I tried to post have a little RED thing in upper left-hand corner that I read means my answer can't be read by anyone but me. They also went back and put that red thing on one that had been up for a while.

I never posted anything that has not been proven by research to work and is safe per Web MD websites or some universities, if anybody wanted to check it out. Other people recommend brand names of nutrients and herbs, but I get in trouble just for asking. I did what they told me to do and my answer can't be read, but the gal who asked (and they said shouldn't) posts all the time and she writes like she's an expert on drugs and some of the stuff she posts is wrong. I guess the moderator was too lazy or busy or her mind went blank for a few seconds while reading my email and decided I'm nothing but trouble. I don't see that I broke any of their many rules. I never got notification about being banned but if I can't post, I guess I am.

I was always allowed back because I altered myself to fit their rules. This last time I could not change so I stayed banned. The thing is, however, they didn't have the guts to keep the banned next to my name! I had been there for almost 2 years and I had a lot of friends and I assume that they didn't want to look bad by banning me permanently. They messed with my log in so that I cannot access my account. I never said goodbye and no one has any idea why I just left. I really liked that website. It was great for passing on info and solving your own issues. I hung out a lot on the mental health boards because I have learned so much from my recovery from anxiety. This last banning was because I was acting like a therapist. I want to pass on what I have learned to others and many folks told me that I was very helpful and supportive. Now I am going to explore this website and see what it is all about......

Hello Everyone, thanks for the warm welcome! This thread is great because this is what helped me find this board. I was just googling Healthboards because I wanted to know more about it and this was the 2nd link that popped up. Why doesn't this site google out for health/mental health chat forums? I actually miss Health Boards. I fit in a lot better over there. I agree with the fact that the mods are better here and the rules are not so draconian. It has been really hard for me to get any conversations going here. I guess it is just the culture/type of people here are not where I fit? I am the type of person who wants to talk about heavy and loaded issues. This doesn't seem like a board to do that sort of thing?

Power heads and its so sad because that forum is filled with people in great need. Luckily I found a real forum dealing with the cancer we are facing. These people are contemptable and should not be placing themselves on the internet at compassionate and helpful. In fact they should be banned from even running that sham of a site!

LOL. Well, the subservient part is right. I think it even says right in "the rules" :rolleyes: that you can't question moderator's decisions. Giving advice is okay but really as on any board, you can't and shouldn't pretend to be a medical expert if you're not. The main things are not allowing off-board contact (hence the no PMs or email) OR posting websites without approval. (The only exception is that .gov sites are okay and those of their commercial partners, like WebMd.) The site is all about keeping people active on their boards and not pointing someone to other sites that might lead them away. If online activity diminishes, so will their almighty advertising and sponsorship dollars. Besides the attitude of the mods, my biggest problem is that they pretend to exist for reasons other than they do. At least that's how I see it.

Power heads and its so sad because that forum is filled with people in great need. Luckily I found a real forum dealing with the cancer we are facing. These people are contemptable and should not be placing themselves on the internet at compassionate and helpful. In fact they should be banned from even running that sham of a site!

I need to vent too about my experience with Health Board. After recommending the Nat.Osteop.
Foundation to one of the people on the web - they banned me too in the sharpest hostile way.
Subsequent communication from them to me was stunningly personal, not professional and
neutral. It appears as if they are out to get you instead of helping with empathy and compassion.
I let them know how I felt about their manner of communication and they now write they would
consider a reply from me "internet harassment" - well I consider what they do "harassment".
I will try to find out who is behind this threatening communication. This is shocking behavior
from a website which solicits consumers with medical needs! I certainly will never visit the
website of HEALTH BOARD again after this terrible experience! Thank you for letting me
vent on this website. your shocked consumer!

I never had the chance to getting banned, as soon as I started get censored, i sent them a rather sharp crossed and direct letter and for most part told them to stuff a sock in it, Sandy and I, had a mutual friend and she contacted me and much to my happiness I was directed here, let me see If I can remember sandys quote, oh yeah " hey you get your butt over here" best thing that happened to me regarding my MS, Thanks NT and friends:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

How anyone finds help without links totally confuses ME!

I read a post on the Neuropathy forum there recently...which
blocked out the word Google with ****** !

One long post is about the Rebuilder (which we discuss here sometimes).

Since the Rebuilder is often found on Google ads, and other advertising. I guess they allow its name to be used. Rebuilder must be one of their paid advertisers!
There was some dancing around the "name"until page 3. I guess a communication with the mods there finally allowed it?
That was my impression.

The ads there are very very irritating. There is a major ad that appears after each question. The one I saw was for a Mesothelioma foundation!

I personally as an individual would suspect any advice that is not documented by the poster. That is why I put so many links in my posts to illustrate validity of what I suggest.
Some anon person from nowhere...telling you stuff --how can that be safe?
People like to know where their information comes from...so I think totally blocked info
is not a great thing for all.

There also was another censor of a 4 letter word with ****...
and the only thing that made sense was "post". So they have filters in place for non-obscenity words!

The word draconian was used here to describe the style..

Being RUDE to members, especially people who are ill, confused and seeking solutions to that suffering is just beyond the pale. While I can understand and agree that spammers are irritating, there are ways in dealing even with them, that do not include the rest of the posters. It is done very well here, for example!

OH BOY.... They got mad that I replied without my user name and email (which was my email) and when my user name was part of my email they told me it was STRIKE 2!!!!

Now, can you figure out my internet provider by just me giving the first part? Now, maybe if I had aol, it may be easy and if I gave hints (after all, personal contact is a no no on that board!!!) but I never did.

I am not sure I am going back. It just makes me so made - I managed to post over 400 times and just telling some poor woman to look for a doctor and perhaps contact the magic foundation got me banned.

I only started to post over there after a friend of mine asked me to support her on a thread where an MRI tech was telling someone that ALL pituitary tumors show up on scans - that it was pretty much fool proof. I explained how one of my tumors hid for 12 years, that the scans make 3mm cuts and that the tumors are often the same size and that documentation exists that up to 40% are missed. But I cannot post links to good sites to prove my point which is annoying. I can understand the ban not to sell anything but good info...

They told me even experts disagree. That I agree with but put out some rational, supported information.

Do you know that if you search for healthbook in google, this thread comes up, almost above the board... ROFL...

Yep, Rump, the googlebot is a pretty tough cookie. You and your server can be identified by your IP address, so if they're looking for it, they can catch a fresh registration from a banned member.

Personally, with all we've learned about this, I would not want my name associated with theirs in any way. Membership with such a slipshod outfit can't help anyone's credibility.

I agree that abuse of this perceived power is rampant with that group and it serves only to hurt the reputations of its sponsors. The strongest effort would be in notifying those sponsors of the second-rate operations that seem to be their only hallmark.:rolleyes:

I got banned from HealthBoards like many of you, for posting links to 2 threads on their very boards with a user lying about their history on a DMD, and praising another DMD for MS.

Now, I can understand being excited about your current DMD. But that bugged the heck out of me that for so long, it went on that they were blacklisting a DMD they admitted on HB 2 years earlier THEY NEVER TRIED. They flat out lied and said they had allergic reactions to the DMD in question, sending them to hospital etc.

I told the admin who emailed me regarding the ban and asked "Do you think it looks good to have someone telling untruths on your boards, hurting other users potentially, who seems almost endorsed in their behavior by the pharmaceutical company in question?" The admin didn't like that and went all Big Brother "Your opinion means nothing" on me.

I'm actually glad they banned me. The email responses I received from there are unreal, beyond the actual issue at hand.

I was suspended for telling a member to do a search on an author of a book. I did not know that this is not allowed. I asked for reinstatement, I posted the e-mail chain. This is absurd, the moderator is totally going against the rules just to show their authority I suppose. What a loser, I am so annoyed!
