Hi. I have generalized MG and I'm taking mestinon, deflazacort and azathioprine. I noticed a rash in my skin, something like a boil, and I'm having sores in my tongue, besides some pain in my throat. Could all this be related to azathioprine?

I've never taken azathioprine, but I found the following information about side effects: Azathioprine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
upset stomach
vomiting
diarrhea
muscle aches
Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them or those listed in the IMPORTANT WARNING section, call your doctor immediately.
mouth sores
cough
lack of energy
loss of appetite
pain in the upper right part of the stomach
yellowing of the skin or eyes
flu-like symptoms
rash
blurred vision
stomach pain
If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at http://www.fda.gov/MedWatch/report.htm] or by phone [1-800-332-1088].
The web site I found it at is http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682167.html
littlewish is right, you need to call your doctor right away. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Yes, the sores can be from the Azathioprine. My doctor prescribed a mouthwash that patients on other forms of chemo therapy use. It is a mixture of Nystatin, Benadryl and lidocaine. It works well and now that I have been on the Azathioprine for a while the sores have gone away. I also had the sores on my skin that you are describing - kind of like a cross between boils and hives - they have gone away now too...but I did go to the doctor several times before we got it under control.

I went to the doctor and I'm under observation. As I'm taking azathioprine for 3 months and the rash came only now, probably it's not a rection to the medicine. The sores are better and I'm using a new toothpaste. He saw too that I have signs of flu and now I'm taking care of all this. Thanks everyone for the advices.
Hugs.
