Greetings,

I post usually on the peripheral neuropathy thread and we have a dear member who has been hospitalized with several issues - resulting in the inability to even sit without severe pain. She does not own a laptop computer, has a borrowed one right now but as we all know, loaners aren’t forever.

Her recovery will most likely be long and painful, and as she is essentially homebound – the computer is her connection to the world. We would like to get her a laptop computer so that she can communicate with others even while lying in bed…..

Members of our thread have been contributing to a fund for this, but its been suggested that I also post here – in hopes that one of our community members may have a laptop they could donate or know where we could purchase one at a discount…… (we definitely would need a wireless connection!)

Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks.

(please PM me!)

Hi, kmeb, I thought about PM'ing, only considered, as well, that the following might also be helpful for others to see:

http://www.adaptive.org/for_sale.htm

The topmost listing is what caught my eye ;).

I don't know ... if the .org is something that might be able to facilitate things, there might also be some shipping/delivery costs, too.

I hope that it works out - and well :winky:.

I know how it feels to be "stuck" at home; I'd be lost without a laptop and outta work.

My laptop (74 GB, though, when new - with backup O/S, applications and drivers CDs) was almost $1900, minus $300 in rebates . Its on its last days. Ideas on where a new one can be purchased for around $325? Thanks :).

Hubby works for huge communications corp....all laptops have been recalled back....but....I will ASK if they will donate the best laptop available!
Lets all pray....ask for divine intervention here....afterall....the Lord hears our cries and knows our pain....I'm sure He will help us put this together for this person.
Please people....I am NOT trying to brag or call attention to self. (I was told recently that I brag too much...I just don't use the right words when trying to describe something I've done and it comes across as bragging....her words, our pastors wife, cut me to smitherines....I am absolutely devesated, humbled....feel like my heart has been cut open....very long story behind all this, but it was over my helping by decorating for a dinner raising funds to build a church in Figi...but I operate on few braincells these days, had just came home from very soggy vacation, jet lag....what it boiled down to was her daughter didn't get the credit for decorating, all knew it was my stuff as I've decorated tropical theme for years...do this on a semi professional level, so I know what I'm doing...but....oh too long story...I'm sorry when I come across as bragging...so this is why I've written this caveat)
Anyway...lets see what "we" can do today.......I will ask about 1PM pac time.
Blessings, cheryl
PS...I'm very understanding about the lap top...when I was so ill and fatigued it was the ONLY way out of my "world" (Bed)....so I know this is not a luxury, this is part of ones life....lets do this!

gosh I wouldn't say that was bragging at all. So if you should happen to accomplish this feat. You in my opinion can brag all you would like.

I personally would love to see this accomplished. I am watching the adds,
and trying to save money personally to get my youngest son a laptop so that he can be on more often. But he has seizures, so its something that would make it more medically safe for him. But at this point my own health is eating
up my money, so its taking me lots longer than I had hoped. But then that
is just the way things always work.

But I will make it one day soon. My hope had been to replace the thought of driving that all teens have on their 16th birthday with this nifty gift. But its not going to happen quite that soon. but its not something that will effect him.

So bragging rights are something you will have at least to us on this site, if you accomplish the task of getting this young person a computer that was mentioned. I hope you make it.

That'd be super if you could point me to any leads on sales you might see, Curious :D. I'm in a rural/remote area (can't even get some great food deliveries here that clerks at my area supermarket can get :( or DSL, etc. I'm in a funk block; surrounding blocks can get the super service but ... not in my teensie enclave.)

I was having the paper delivered, only ... it's also so pricey here; I dropped delivery service when I found that I can read some issues online without a pay-per-view. (And, I did it when I was in a job transition and was looking to shave costs fast.)

Sony is the next laptop I am hoping to lay my hands on; I have one picked out, only it's a bit outta my reach right now at $2600.

If you see a good deal on a laptop with DVD/CD R/W, USBs and firewire and huge GBs, so cool!

It doesn't have to be a Sony (though that is on my wishlist). Just a 'puter that is up-to-date and with warranty. DSL account or an auto account of such won't work in my area, though. So, I bring my own to the package .

Thank you.

Kmeb, Dell has the best deals and more-so when it comes to the warranty packages. I can probably get an employee discount if there's anything you can find there you'd like. With that discount you get a different CS team (within the states). I have a Dell and I've gotten 3 new monitors, 2 video cards and a power supply in 3 years under my warranty (boyfriend is game designer, so anything involving graphics on our pc's gets used heavily).

I just wanted to thank all of you. The laptop Kmeb was searching for has been purchased. But if any of you have good deals, you might keep posting, I'm sure others could use this info.

Just make sure when you get a laptop at walmart you buy the extended warranty please. I have bought two laptops at Walmart.

And I made a mistake with the first one and didn't.

And was very sorry, it had problems, and I had to pay to have it fixed.

And now I can't figure out how to get it back on line, but that is another issue. But it cost me more to pay to have the mother board replaced,
and some other things that would have been covered if I had just bought
the warrenty.

The second one I bought for my college son, I bought the warranty extension,
and so far all is okay. But its just about the same time that things started going wrong and the original warranty had just gone out.

So we will see.

The one thing he had to have fixed, was the antivirus, and it was just because he didn't want what it came with. So it wasn't a problem with the
laptop.
