I need to get my hair cut., with my round face and bushy hair I am beginning to look a lot like a basketball. I also need to get busy on my thank you notes...had so much fun last night...until.....long story! Our hostess is 82 years old and cooked everything from scratch including the peach pie. She made a salad that brought tears to my eyes...haven't had it since my mother used to make it...very crunchy with celery and grn pepper in a geletin..must make an allrecipe.com search for that.
Oh the theatre! It was a two hr. tape she'd made twenty years ago of Big Band stuff....Mel Torme, Jack Jones...Buddy Rich..etc. She and I swooned while Mr.Alffe talked and talked and talked to the other couple.
I love to cook and keep failing..:o going to try again today to make garlic paste and flatbread with my new rolling pin. I am beginning to think I need a griddle for flatbread. At least I have succeed twice in making the paste and the restaurant owner assures me that she still fails often in the process....but when you succeed...:winky:  :D :D :D (there isn't an icon of pure joy! *grin)
I love having an herb garden...when we finally sell this old house I have to have a place with a yard big enough for some herbs. It's also fun to pick tomatos for lunch.
Can you tell that I am working hard at staying positive inspite of all the negativaty around me??? Enough of that!
Now, what's on your plate?

Sis and her friends has to be a volley ball practice at 7:45 to set up the nets than i buzz home to ge Scott to take him to his neurology appointment in OKC. The rest of the day????? trying to stay out of trouble mostly....
I'm cleaning frantically - big time cleaning, throwing away giant piles of stuff, gathering loads of things my sister can sell at her garage sale. ........ husband bought a new site of land just 2 miles from "town" and lined up a realtor so we will be selling this house in about 9 months. Complicated reasons.......
I thought I had all this CLEANING finished. lol lol A
alffes garlic paste is wonderful!!! I love it!!!!! bizi:o
I'm going away for our Canadian Long weekend.
Looking forward to lots of friends, music and song!
Doesn't get better than that.
Still have to pack, clean and trim my toe nails! :o
see you all next week!

Alffe - I'm sure that was fun. :) My mom was a Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw groupie.
Goofy and Wren - Have fun staying out of trouble and cleaning. Wait a minute - that doesn't sound like fun.
Bizi - If we ever get the chance to meet, please warn me beforehand if you've eaten Alffe's garlic paste. :p
Addy - Have a wonderful time.
I'm bracing for an extended period of heat and humidity without any AC. A day or two here and there isn't bad, but those stretches can be dangerous. I'm still amazed we lost over 700 people to a summer heat spell one year. I feel like I'm about to step into the boxing ring with Mother Nature.
My husband installed a fan in the attic this morning to see if we can draw in a breeze around here. I was so impressed he didn't fall through the ceiling, and the house is still standing. :D

Work, work, work, work...and more work. :p I need to find a rich man with one foot in the proverbial grave who adores me and will leave me all of his money so I can retire.

doody...why not find one that be around awhile? one who loves to do yard work in the heat? oh...but rich too. :D
Alffe, I know exactly what you mean about having fresh tomatoes to pick for lunch. I love having fresh basil to go with the fresh tomatoes for lunch as well.
I've got too much on my plate at the moment... either that or it's the usual amount but I'm just not in the right mood to deal with it all. People! sheesh. I'm longing for a deserted island.

Oh Lara, add some mozarella cheese to those tomatos and sweet basil, with a drizzle of olive oil.....:D Sometimes I just pick a bunch of sweet basil and bring it into the kitchen cause it smells so wonderful. Nothing wrong with fresh rosemary either but you have to keep stroking it to get the fragrance.
My sister spent the night and we had a slice of cantalope with blueberries and a sliced banana for breakfast. I love this time of year!
In MY :p opinion you add nothing to a fresh tomato except a sprinkle of salt ... then eat like an apple ......... eat 3 or 4 like an apple!!

Round One in the boxing ring with Mother Nature wasn't too bad, thanks to my new boxing gloves (attic fan). The weather forecast is still hot, but they're not talking as extreme as they were yesterday (like they can REALLY predict the weather)
I'm getting too skinny though. The anorexic look is NOT a good look, and I can't stomach more than one Ensure a day. It feels like I'm in a constant state of morning or motion sickness. My husband keeps trying to get me to eat, but it only makes it worse to talk about food. :o
I used to love to work out at the health club, and I was in excellent shape (ate well and muscles toned). I was on a stationary bike and noticed two women glaring at me. Finally, one of them sneered "You don't need to be here - you look anorexic." It wasn't light-hearted joking - it was real anger towards me.
They wouldn't stop glaring, so I told them "I work out for the stamina and emotional balance it gives to me. I work a full-time demanding job, I'm a single mother with an energetic toddler, and I'm the caregiver to two elderly sick parents. I need the extra stamina. What's YOUR story?"
I wish they could see me now - THIS looks anorexic!

I'm so friggin tired. How I would LOVE to take a nap, but I've got waaaaay too many people to pray for today. After all, WE are at war - there IS no napping when your soldiers are fighting and dying for your life. The least you can do is stay on top of it and pay attention to the game - i.e., pray for them and their families and friends.
I haven't even checked today's death count over there - anyone know? :o
When it rains it pours. Thought I was starting to settle down, but noooooooooooo. London Bridges had to fall, so now I have to juggle my schedule around them. Hope we don't have another disaster anytime soon, it's wearing me down. What a mess in Minnesota (and New Orleans). Hope our men and women overseas stay safe. :(
dear Kathy, am sorry that those ladies were so mean to you.
We have to walk in others shoes to know what trials they endure...
((((HUGS))))

Thanks Bizi
They didn't hurt my feelings. It just made me angry because that was the only "me time" I had, and I only had one hour. Nothing against them, but I didn't want to spend my "sacred hour" being told to "F-off" by people who didn't even know me. The noive of some people, huh?

Hey good news! I ate a slice of pizza a couple of hours ago, and it hasn't attacked me yet :D
It's a good thing cuz my sister - my ONLY sibling - called today to say she discovered a lump on her breast. Well now, isn't that just special. :(
She's 6 years older than me. My favorite home movie clip with her is when I was sitting in a high chair with spaghetti all over my face - reaching out with spoon in hand trying to feed my older sister. :D
I've been up for so many days now - doc says I'll drop sooner or later. Hope it's sooner, cuz it's WAY past my bedtime - and everyone else I know is sound asleep. :(
g'day Kathy, I sure hope that the lump they found turns out to be something totally benign. It seems to me that you've got a plateful of worries already and it's overflowing. I'm wondering if it's pain keeping you awake or mixture of pain and worry. When I'm like that I tend to start overthinking and the more pain and the more worry the more overthinking and then the whole of me is totally exhausted but sleep is elusive. I'm not sure if Ensure is the same as what I used to have and that was Hospital strength Sustagen. They may be the same thing just different brand names, I'm not sure. I was extremely stressed, ill and underweight at one time some years ago and my blood pressure was way too low because of that and I found that the Sustagen seemed to act as a bit of a pick-me-up or tonic and got my appetite going again.
Anyway, I just read your message and wanted to respond to you and hope that you get some sleep sooner rather than later. Your body and brain need it. Easier said than done I know.

Sisters are wonderful...both older and younger! (I'm the middle one..:D ) I'll be praying for your sister KathyM.
Leaving shortly to drive down and pick up our grandaughters. I might now be around for several days cause those girls will run me ragged.
It's an absolutely gorgous day...not so humid.
I need to go wash all the nose prints off my car windows so Mr.Alffe can see out. Cooper likes to ride too! ;)

Special hugs for ((Kathy)). Please keep up the good work with sustaining your body.
I had a very special evening and day with granddoody. He turned 2 on Thursday? the 2nd, but his 'big' birthday party is tomorrow at a park shelter. Supposed to be in the mid 90's and humid. Ugh.
I decided to get my hair cut at the last minute at Great Clips before I came home today. I now officially look like a boy. Oh well. I'm so cute, what the heck.

The party was OPPRESSIVE!!!! My kids decided next year they will have an indoor pool party, LOL. AND, no rain, but it was totally overcast and still we all sweated til I swear there wasn't any sweat left to give.
We haven't had ANY rain here in central Iowa, but other parts of Iowa have been getting it. I hope we do eventually. The oppressive weather is supposed to continue...gee, what a surprise in August. NOT.
Grandoody drank a lot of juice to keep up with the heat.

LOL no, kids running everywhere with beads of sweat everywhere. They didn't seem to care, but you could tell by their flushed faces they were getting too hot. Then they get crazy and cranky.
And, he still smelled like a sweet little boy. :)

Isn't that the most beautiful sound? Kids playing to their breaking point. :p
I used to be my sister's puppet, and she liked to dress me up and show me off to her friends. Whenever I'd whine or cry, she'd tell her friends "Watch this!" She'd turn on the radio, and I'd instantly start smiling and dancing. She DOES know how to pull my strings. :D
Just got a call from my sister about the lump her doc found in her breast. They did a mammogram and ultrasound. He studied it closely, then looked again and again. Found absolutely NOTHING! :D
YIPPEE - Makes me feel like dancing! :grouphug:

on my plate...like alffe...teenage girls! lil'monkey had 2 spend the night. one it was her second night. poor grandmonkey...he is bent out of shape. they want nothing to do with a 5 yr old. :(
also on my plate..trying to get a hold of his mother. she has to get his registered for school. so far...she hasn't answered emails or voice mail. time is running out. i DO NOT want to have to home school him. he needs interaction with kids and not be with just me literally 24/7. i may be tons of fun :p but there a thing call toooooo much togetherness.
alffe..i just love the beauty schools. they are a fun place to have girls birthday parties. we also used to take my MIL there every other week for her treat. hehehe..ulterior motive....they did awsome pedicures and took care of her feet..something she never did.
