Mr.Alffe (my shiney knight :D ) took me to Sears and bought me a new stove...which is being delivered tomorrow! Now I have to try to clean under the old one.:o

Loved the mail today...it's usually all for him but I got a card from Scrabble, who is having a real adventure on her trip. I'll let her tell it. Also got a card from an old friend who is on a cruise with her hubby up the Dnieper River in the Ukraine. Also, got the recipes promised me by the hostess of the dinner/theatre. :D Mr.Alffe was astounded...I gave him the bills. ;)

Made Borsht....and Gaspacho. going out now to cut the grass...it's a beautiful day...no humidity for a change!

What's on your plate?

I'm off work today. Somebody is suppose to come work on our air conditioner so i'm pretty much stuck at home waiting for them to call.
Rebecca has an appt at 4:30 to get her bangs cut. I told Rick if the air people arent here by then and gone then he'd have to come home from work.

Saturday here, so I'm up for almost anything really.

It was cool this morning but will heat up by mid morning I think. Winter is over. I can put my socks away I guess. Was cold for a few weeks early morning though.

I'd like to buy a new scanner/printer. They're so inexpensive these days and my old printer is as slow as a wet week although I've forgotten what a wet week is like. I yearn for many wet weeks. No rain still. Going to level 6 restrictions very soon I guess. Combined dam levels for my region are now down to less than 17%. Our daily target of water use per person per household is 140 litres. The current usage in the area is 133 litres... so people are finally getting the message. Yay!

I need to get the sewing machine out. I have some caftans/shirts I want to make for summer. Have the materials, just need to start drafting and cutting and all the rest. I doubt that'll be today because today I might actually have some ALONE time at last... that's as long as daughter doesn't have me babysitting her new puppy that I've been babysitting now for 12 out of 14 days. grrr. I love the puppy, but she didn't discuss the purchase of same puppy prior to arriving home with her. That's a big no-no. Did I say grrr already?

I also have some really neat projects underway. I'm making a special cook-book for my daughter who thinks she's going to find a partner for life who does all the cooking. ha!

I'm having trouble navigating the photoalbum here. I need to spend a little while checking that out so I am familiar with it. I always forget to check there for photos. Once I get a scanner organized I'm going to maybe add some in there myself. I am not fond of these digital cameras. No idea why really. Just prefer the old style with the different lenses and such...

What's on my plate? Lamb probably.
Edited to add: Lamb = the great australian roast. My apologies to any vegetarians viewing.
There used to be an ad on the tellie here by the meat boards and the girl in the ad decided to stay at home with the family to eat the lamb roast rather than go on a date with Tom Cruise (when he was single this ad ran... after his divorce from Nicole). Personally, I'd stay at home to eat gruel rather than go on a date with Tom Cruise, single or not single. :)

Speaking of Lamb. I saw a snippet on the tv yesterday which mentioned that yukky Mel Gibson has made some scary movie about killer sheep. ???? Say what??? sheesh. I hope it wasn't true.

Lara! I'm so glad to hear you are making the cookbook for your daughter. I remember you talking of it before. I think it would be a fun idea (if you haven't already thought of it) to take a photo of each recipe and put it into the book. I plan to do this for my sons one day... what a wonderful gift!

Alffe - I love getting mail! real male  ooops freudian slip

I am up to my ying-yang (whatever that means?!!) with company here in my neck of the woods. A friend visiting from Puerto Vallarta (moved there :(); setting up my online business; yard sale tomorrow; vacationing... and lots of walks, swimming, sun bathing and wonderful happy times with friends!

Goof, I hope your air is fixed .... its very cool where I am... ocean breezes this week makes it feel like fall ... far too early! I hope your day off was eventful for you. ((hugs))

"as slow as a wet week!" Love the way you express yourself Lara. Our days of rain finally greened things up here..hopefully your draught will end soon. I loved making scrapebooks for our grandkids....memories of trips we've taken them on.

My new stove is supposed to be delivered early this morning and I'll be glad to have it. Mr.Alffe's sister is coming on Monday for a few days so I'll get to try it out. I hope it looks ok...all of our appliances are Almond color and of course they quit making that color 8 yrs ago...so we went with black.

KathyM
08-11-2007, 07:43 AM
I used to like that almond color - mom was more into burnt orange. I can see you two are nothing alike. You're just a nut. :D

My husband wants to get me a new door, so he's going to swap some phone work with someone who apparently has a nice door to spare. I'm not sure if it's the front or back because neither one of them want to stay closed, but we'll see.

I don't have much confidence in this. He installed a screen door in the back to keep out the flies and mosquitos. Did a good job too - but it's 2 inches too short. Oh well, a little screen is better than no screen at all. Whatta guy - wouldn't trade him for the world. :D

I had my Friday night with daughter, son-in-law and of course granddoody. They have taken him off his nite nite bottle so this week has been rough for him. He was crying and we couldn't stand it so SIL told us to go take a walk, and we did.

Came back at least 1-1/2 later (Long friggin walk, I ached), and he was crying, so daughter couldn't stand it. She went in there and he jumped up in his crib, went to the side, pointed at the floor and said, "Kitty mommy!" And there was his nitetime buddy, his white kitty soft kitty toy.

Poor baby, wanted his kitty. So she sat with him for a bit, rocked, told him a story and told him it was nite nite and he went right down.

I woke up this morning, everyone else asleep, then heard horrible wretching sounds. Poor doody was vomiting. He vomited several times throughout the morning but finally quit. Has a low grade temp, a little snotty nose. When I left late today he wanted to hug me and blew kisses all the way out the door.

My babies.

Poor little guy...I'm sorry..hope he feels better this morning.

Mr.Alffe cooked me a burger on the grill after church. I just opened my email and received this from an old friend who knows how much I enjoy  going to the basball games with Mr.Alffe.

We have some old friends coming to town for this weeks first N.D.football game and are meeting them and another couple for dinner..they refused to let me cook for them.. maybe cause moi won't be here to help me clean up the stovetop....;) His wife said he has to rest as he's in the middle of radiation treatments....~sigh. He is such a lovely man and refuses to discuss health issues.

And another childhood friend, someone who was the picture of good health at our last years 50th high school reunion died unexpectedly...his children are just a wreck. :(

The message is what you want to make of it.....life is short...each day is truely a gift.....and remember, the shortest prayer....Help! Help! Help!

I'm preparing to go visit a dear lady and trying to do it in a restful fashion. YEAH RIGHT! LOL

I'm sorry about your friends, Alffe. You have yet another sick friend coming to visit who dreams about sitting in your lap and being gently rocked. :D

I just hope I plan it right to get there AFTER the Notre Dame game starts.

Note to self...get Kathy's phone number so I can call her when I am arriving to take a break with her before going to the Alffe's. I can hardly wait to negotiate going around the Chicago area all by my lonesome. But so looking forward to hugging our Ms. Kathy in person. ((Kathy)) (Last internet hug you'll get from me until I return. :) )

Oh heck, who am I kidding. I've driven all over the United States all by myself, I'm just old and starting to wonder why I do it. LOL.

Road prayers for Ms. Doody this Saturday please. :o

Prayers and positive thoughts heading your way...

I hope you enjoy your visit with Kathy and the Alffes. Oh boy, you get to see Cooper too!

I only started doing road trips on my own ... when I was left on my own ... and now I can actually enjoy it! Of course I like travelling with my kids too ... and now that my son has his Learner's License he thinks he's ready to 'spell me off' for driving on the highway! But I'm not ready!! (I want him to take some driver training lessons first.)

08-30-2007, 09:52 PM
Thanks you guys. I just get concerned about car problems, most especially now that mine is getting on in years. Like its owner. :o

And yeth, I get to see Cooper too. I can hardly wait. (Little does Alffe know I'm really going to see Cooper. :D )

I don't even have my bags packed and I'm leaving tomorrow late afternoon to stay at my daughter's. Otherwise, it'll be 3 weeks to not see granddoody. When I get back, granddoody is going with dad to see his great-grandparents on the other side of the state...BUT, sweet daughter is going to spend the weekend with me when I get back so I am so excited about that as well. Girls' week with Ms. Alpo and girls' weekend with daughter. What could be better.

Anyway, taking off tomorrow to stay with them and leaving early Saturday morning. Take a break at Chicago with Kathy for a couple and then head to Indiana and timing it to NOT run in to Notre Dame game traffic.

I'm hoping to go to church on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alpo, then he is leaving us alone for the week and traveling elsewhere. Heh.

Oh my!! I'm in west central Indiana...should I be worried?? :lookaround: :icon_lol:
I'm sure this will be a great weekend for all of you! :partytime2:

My plate is always full, as most of you know. Let's see...I called in 10 of my prescriptions today. They have to transfer them from FL, so won't get those til tomorrow. I'm still working on getting new doctors, and without a pain management doctor, I can't get my morphine or lortabs filled again until I find one. I can't do that until medicaid goes through here in IN. I hate all this moving, transfers on meds and doctors, filing for medicaid in a new state...it's a nightmare! It's all for quality of life though.

My rep. payee situation is moving along. I got my former primary care doc to fax a letter to the local SSD office, which is required when trying to become my own payee. I have an appt. to go in and file to be my own payee in a couple of weeks.

I've started weaning off the morphine, and already having some withdrawals. Unfortunately, it will only get worse. On the good side, it won't be forever. I'll do alot of praying for the pain levels to be tolerable, and the side effects from withdrawal to be easy on me.

There's my plateful for today!

I had such a good time visiting with Doody yesterday. It was a beautiful day, so we sat out front with Geneva. Doody was even brave enough to enter my humble abode, so we did a little more visiting inside. Fortunately, the house didn't come crashing down on us. :p

Thanks ((Doody)). Your visit really made my day.

Have fun ladies. Alffe, I hope I'll be able to meet you during the week. :)

I had a wonderful visit with you Kathy. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I just wish Geneve would have let me give her a kiss. Wait, I did get to kiss her GINORMOUS paw! LOL. Ms. Geneva is very protective of Kathy. Kathy does have a prince charming for a hubby. Sweet as could be. Even served us a luncheon.

Thanks (((Kathy))).

My trip getting out of Kathy's to Alffe's was ... um ... nerve shattering! LOL! Take this exit, take that exit, merge onto this expressway then immediatelky merge onto another expressway, turn left, turn right, watch out for the other hundred lanes of traffic! LOLOL~

Slept til 9:30 this morning. Those hottub mudslide events are wonderful for sleep! Even Ms. Alffe slept until 7:30 which is virtually unheard of.

Yesterday we tried a day trip. I wanted to go to the BIG dune at Lake Michigan but there was traffic sitting and waiting to the entrance for miles, so we gave up on that. Everywhere we went was either packed or closed, LOL. Bless Ms. Alffe's heart. Oh, we did go to two lovely shops that I just adore. Lots of fun stuff.

We also managed to shop at WalMart, LOLOL!

We're gonna take it easy today and catch a movie. Tomorrow Chicago.

Love you guys and again, thanks Kathy. And just by the way, you are extremely lovely both inside and out. And..hubba hubba on the hubby! woo hoo!

And of course thank you to my wonderful hostess with the mostest. I saw what Curious sent Ms. Alffe, wow Curious! What a treasue. Ms. Alffe said you shouldnt have! But guess what...I think she's hoarding the choccy because I haven't seen hide nor hair of that!~

Don't believe a word that woman says....she had her share of the chocolate! :D

I am disappointed that I didn't get to meet KathyM and her hunk of a man (Doodys exact words!). We just flat out ran out of time in Chicago..I'll blame Doody cause she insisted on going to Billie Goats and she LOVED the Crate & Barrel store and Filene's Basement. The dang South Shore train, that I always rave about was so hot we about croaked on the ride home...and it was about 15 mins. late arriving ....felt more like a 4 hr. trip!

Doody did finally get to see Tower Hill and was impressed. God is a marvel...or Mother Nature is...take your pick. *grin

Flatbread proved impossible to purchase...store closed due to a broken water main so I've promised to try to mail some.

We are having problems again with our Comcast server..so if I'm not around much that's the reason...that and leaving for NY city on Sat. for a week.

We just plain ran out of time to see Kathy and yes it was all my fault. :o (((Kathy))) But nah nah, I got to see her and hold her and hug her and hug that huge, gigantic lovable Geneva. Every time I tried to pet Geneva, she'd lift her head and go, "row row row row row" or however you spell it, LOL. She did not want me getting into Kathy's personal space.

Yes, that train ride back was horrendously hot!!!! A very nice lady saw me fanning Alffe and myself and I was sweating it was so hot!!! She asked the conductor to do something and he reset the air conditioning, but that was towards the end of the ride. Thankfully we survived. But Ms Alffe, I LOVED the train trips. Only been on one train as a little girl and that was for a short ride over the Kate Shelley Bridge in Boone, Iowa.

Michigan Avenue in Chicago is just beautiful. We walked and walked and walked and walked and WALKED!!!! I'm amazed we were able to do that! For hours we walked. We also discovered that you can take a water taxi for only $3 from Michigan Avenue over to Navy Pier!!! We just ran out of time to do that as well. Too much to see there in just a few hours.

I can't believe I don't have pictures of Cooper on my camera. I took them on my darned cell phone!!! Wasn't thinking. Wish I knew how to get them off my phone so I could show them.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Alffe for such a wonderful trip.

Congratulations Wren! :D

Hi ((Addy))

I've had some strange symptoms this past week when I wake up and open my eyes. When I turn my head to look at something, there is a delay in my visual field, then it snaps in place. It's almost like a slot machine or old TV screen balancing itself out - only vertically. It gives me a huge momentary headache and causes me to feel nauseous. It's happened once or twice during the day if I've been staring in one place for too long.

A friend of mine died recently from pancreatic/liver cancer. :( He was only 49, and I'd known him since we were 16 (I'm very close with his sister). I attended the wake on Sunday and funeral on Monday. I did fine at the wake, but I only lasted a few minutes at the funeral. I felt my blood pressure dropping while the preacher was speaking - and she just HAD to keep mentioning the word "faint." I was already seated, so I knew I only had moments before I'd become violently ill and/or pass out completely. It makes me so friggin angry that I can't control that part of my life.

We had no choice but to get up and leave right in the middle of my friend's eulogy of her brother. Fortunately, only close friends were present and they know me. Still, I WANTED to be at that funeral because Tyler was an important person to me. :( As I was walking out, I could just imagine Tyler sitting up in the casket and yelling out to me "Hey, where the F do you think YOU're going?" :p

Tomorrow my husband has his repeat colonoscopy. I'm hoping and praying I won't be following in Tyler's wife's footsteps. :(

Doody
09-11-2007, 08:19 PM

Colonoscopy? Annual colonoscopy? Me too

Yes ma'am. :o Because of my ulcerative colitis. It's tried to kill me a couple of times. It's very scarred in there so they take biopsies every year.

Wonder how Mr. Kathy is doin.

KathyM
09-13-2007, 10:37 AM
My husband had his test yesterday, and they tell us we have to wait 7-10 days for results of the biopsies. I was a little ticked because it was a different doctor/nurse at the VA. We only got to speak with the nurse (I'm assuming she was a nurse), and she acted a little surprised when I mentioned this was a follow-up colonoscopy from last June. I got the impression she thought this was a standard exam. She only mentioned three more polyps being biopsied, nothing about the previous 5 found in June. I thought that was why we had to come back in September.

Alffe
09-13-2007, 02:25 PM
That's so unfair....I hate waiting!!! I'd call the office every day if I were you.

Doody
09-13-2007, 02:48 PM
And I'd definitely get to the bottom of why they didn't know this was a followup. Call the original doctor and find out what the heck!?

Wren
09-13-2007, 04:15 PM
((( Kathy ))) When I had my colonoscopy a couple months ago 4 polyps were removed and the biopsies were done right THEN. (all benign - thank God)

I was given photos of them  and copies of the results ~shudder~

It's HIDEOUS that your husband is being treated like this when we KNOW different treatment is possible and easy.

{{{{{Kathy and hubby}}}}
I can also sympathize with you on the horrors of colonoscopies! After one of mine, I was visited by the doctor in recovery and shown the pictures of the ulcers that he found. I also suffer with ulcerative colitis, and it can be VERY difficult to live with!

I totally agree with the others. Call the office of the original doctor who ordered this follow-up, and find out what the deal is with this wait! I'm sorry your hubby is suffering with this, and will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers!
:

Doody
09-14-2007, 11:33 AM
Actually, I don't get the results of my numerous biopsies for the same period of time.

My gastro specialist usually talks to me afterwards to give me his opinion of what he found. But the 'official' biopsy report takes my medical facility 7-10 days as well.

How's Mr. Kathy doing ((Kathy))???
