My liver enzymes have been high, so I asked my chiro about supplements I could take to help it out and he gave me a bottle of Choline Citrate. I took it for two days in the morning mixed with water or juice and noticed an unexpected side effect, my muscles were more relaxed and I had a nice, even increase in energy.
It wasn't like coffee, I was just awake; with no crash. I did notice, if I took it in the evening I would be awake most of the night.
Further reading revealed,
Choline citrate - precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, anti-depressant
Choline deficiency is linked to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkonson's Diseases according to studies.
I called Perque, the manufacturer to find out if it could be toxic and they said if you drank the whole bottle you would probably just overwhelm your digestive system and get the runs. Of course being a precursor to acetylcholine, according to wikipedia "...oversupplying the brain with acetylcholine may have the opposite effect, temporarily reducing rather than improving mental performance."
So, I have been taking 2-3 tsp in the morning hours for two weeks now and have been quite pleased with the results. I'm only on Azilect, so I know nothing of any possible drug interactions.
This is were I buy it:
