Hello. Have peripheral neuropathy, taking 1200 mg. daily of neurotin to keep pain at bay. Anyone out there who knows if I can get US government to help with cost of medicine, etc., through SSI. I will be 62 in February and receive the US age pension. Am living overseas. Want to know if anyone has experience with this before I go through the arduous process of application. Is this illness recognized as well as standard medication by SSI. Many thanks. Kindly write me at andreabrae@yahoo.com

You can not get ssi if you live out of the country, you can get ssd if you worked and earned enough credits. If you were married for over 10 years and your spouse can collect social security you may be able to collect on him. There are a lot people that have much more knowledge than I that answer you. Social security has a website that can answer your questions also. SSI is based on how much income you have and SSD is based on credits from work or how much and how recent you made money. Good luck.

Hi Andrea and welcome :)

We also have a board here that specifically discussed SS, so maybe you will get additional info there
