noooooo...i haven't been adding beans to the brownies! :p

so what are the gas prices where you are? $2.52 here yesterday. some of the major player stations were still $2.60+.

have you changed your driving habits since the price went up? drive less?

hubby and i are pretty lucky. our business is less than 3 miles from home. he drives the suburban and i drive a little itty bitty mazda. makes sense huh? him alone...and me wif da monkeys.

i get great gas milage, but i still have cut way back. kinda stack up errands. lil'monkey walks to the club after school ( about a block...you can see the club from her school) and i pick her up there. on the way home we go to the bank drive thru and the post office. i stock up on groceries and don't have extra trips to the store. it helps that hubby can walk next door to a dollar general that even has cold foods and dairy products.

what about these hybrid cars? i haven't checked them out much...but i am curious. :D

Gas is around $2.69 here now. No, we have not changed our driving habits. We just go on as usual. Fortunately, our work is only two miles away.

As far as hybrid cars, I'll stick with my 12 year old vehicle. It would cost more than it's worth to buy something newer just to save on gas mileage. Anyhoo, that's what I think for what it's worth;)

my mazda is 12 yrs old too kitt. musta been a good year. i love my car! the only problem i have is that lil'monkey who is also 12...is going on 5'9" and we have to bend her in thirds to get her in the back seat! hehehe....so she rides in the front. grandmonkey who will be 5 next month  has his car seat in the back. he has become awful good at keeping his feet pressed into my lower back. ;) i forgot to mention...hubby won't even try to get in my car. lol.

the time will come pretty soon for me to pass along martin the mazda. bet 17 yr old bubba monkey wouldn't mind. :p

You must've gotten the Mazda that was missing from the lot when I got mine. I had one... and its engine caught on fire . I pulled into a "fire lane" and was ticketed. Uhhh, car on fire + fire lane = thinking that's safer than continuing to drive.

I fought the ticket, though people aren't supposed to be able to do so by mail in my area, if within a 50 mile radius. I think the Judge understood, though: I did a letter and included the paperwork on the sale of the car along with info. that proved I bought a new one. Ticket went poooooooooof!

Our gasoline just this week dropped below $3.00 a gallon here in southwest suburban Chicagoland. I was semi-ecstatic earlier this week when I filled up my mini-truck (Ford Ranger 4 cylinder, stick shift) for $2.93.9 per gallon.... This evening, I saw 87 unleaded at the grocery store gas station for the amazing low price of $2.81.9 per gallon!

I drive about 100 miles daily round-trip to school... so fuel mileage is of paramount importance to me... and my little pickemup has been delivering upwards of 30 miles to the gallon. Suits me...

As of this morning gas here in central Ohio is $2.56 a gallon. Most of the towns around us it's $2.46.
Have I changed my driving habits? Well, some maybe. I save up my trips then don't make any of them.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmn, Full Serve price is ranging 2.58-2.65 in my area. Wait a sec, there is no Self Serve price! :p
Can't complain, being so close to a resort area, the prices are always a tad higher, but always worst a few miles east, closer to the beach communities....

don't some states have a law that you can't pump your own gas? what's the reason for that?

yeesh zs...that seems high. i guess it's all relevent. wages are higher there aren't they? i was raised ( yep...they let me out of my cage...) in ca. i have lots of family there.

the cows must be happy that a gallon of milk is the same price as gas here. :p

;) so bobbi...i don't see no big deal about double negatives....lol

Curious, Oregon and New Jersey are the two states that it is illegal to pump your own gas. The major oil companies keep trying to change that in NJ but meet too much resistance from residents.

Reason: The residents have seen what has happened in the neighboring states with Self-Serve. The price does not go down, they just make the price they are charging now, the Self-Serve price and then raise the Full Serve price by an exorbitant amount.

Also, sure is nice not getting out in 10 degree weather to pump your own, when it is pouring, sleeting or 100 degrees.

One thing that really bothers me about self-serve, is that Seniors and those that are disabled are really hurt by pumping your own and then having to walk or wheel into the station to pay. And if the answer is then use full serve, you are in essence saying you are penalizing those that are handicapped to pay much more for the same gas.

I must relate one story about another feature that I personally do not like. Getting gas/oil or whatever on your hands from the nozzle.

We drove to Great Falls, Mt for a anniversary vacation a few years back and stayed with friends who then took us to Glacier National Park. Of course when we stopped for gas, the conversation turned to the advantages and disadvantages to Self-Serve. I mentioned to my buddy about getting gasoline odor on your hands from doing the pumping and he said "Oh, that has never happened to me" :) Well, you guessed it, as he was topping it off it squirted out and his whole hand got doused........There is justice in this world!:p Of course all of us then could smell gasoline the rest of the drive. :(

My last trip to Vermont in the late winter solidified my vote against Self-Serve. I stopped for gas at a hilltop station just south of Burlington. It was very windy, chill factor in the single digits and snowing lightly. First, my hands froze pumping the gas, then the 100 foot walk to the store to pay and the walk back was horrible. Yes, what a great deal Self Serve is- NOT. :)

Of course now I am going to hear about not having to wait in line, well, true sometimes but not always, and what's the hurry anyway.

thanks for the answer jyes!

sistermonkey moved to new jersery last january. she had no idea about not pumping her own gas. she thought the attendent just thought she was cute and was pumping the gas for her! :p

i really do see your point. ( or the point on not pumping your own gas ) my folks are in their mid/late 70's. both have health problems. dad has parkinsons. mom had never ever put gas in their car. dad was very ill and couldn't do it. i had been driving there daily to help, so i didn't know mom was low on gas. after things were getting better, i took a few days off from helping. mom let an rx of dad's run out because she was afraid she would run out of gas going to pick it up. :(

I can see your point jyes as far as it being very hard for seniors and handicapped people to pump their own gas. Where I'm at they will pump the gas for you if you ask them. So that is nice. About all we have is self serve. Also, a suggestion when you are pumping your own gas. I wear gloves; by that I mean not dressy ones. Work gloves. That works out great. Otherwise it certainly can get smelly and messy:eek:

That's quite a collection Curious. A person has to collect something don't you agree?

Have a good day:)

good thing i don't collect choccy wrappers! :p

the collection started when hubby and i got married. one of those sharing funny talks till the weeeeee hours.

hubby said curious george was his fave book growing up. he would check out the same curious george book from the library week after week. he never owned his own book. his mother thought that was silly for a little boy to like curious george so much. :(

we got married the week before christmas ( my birthday ) and i bought him a first edition curious book and a new stuffed curious george with a santa hat. it has snowballed from there. even has had his own room! ( curious george that is! )

:o which i couldn't do so had to call himself plus currency converters..managed in the end to get the equivalent cost to us in our part of England of 1US gallon of fuel to roughly equate to $7.04924 .....
Now that is pricey...

:D Still using the car though, public transport here is mostly useless for wheelchairs and so we have to pay...and all petrol stations are self-service , that problem is still being worked on here..fill a car if you are disabled..forget it..

Now I feel bad. I thought I was getting a good deal last week at 2.99 regular. I'm South of Seattle Washington. My driving habits have changed dramatically over the last few years of chronic pain. I've only filled my tank twice this year, possibly 3 times. Partially due to pain and the rest is because I'm living on SSD and can't afford to go anywhere:(

Hey as of this afternoon, on our way home from work, gas is showing at $2.42. Talk about happy. I know that there are places in the country that have higher gas prices. The prices are coming down, it is slow getting to the rest of the country, but it will get to you!

I have a friend who bought one of those hybrid cars.
It's a Toyota, and its a real nice car, very roomy, and gets over 40MPG.
It cost him about $3K more than the same regular model.
The cool part is pulling up to a traffic light, and startling people who don't
hear you pull up next to them. When going less than 10-15 MPH, it is running
entirely on the batteries, and absolutely silent. Hopefully they will get the price down more, so people won't have to pay extra for the hybrid feature.
If I could afford a new car, I would buy one of these myself, perhaps
I will be able to buy a used one in a few years. Someday these car will be the norm, instead of the very few that are out there now.
The only downside I could see is that when the engine starts up to get the car up to speeds higher than 10-15MPH, there is a very small lag time in acceleration, not a good thing if a semi is coming at you in an intersection...

Peace

Just saw a $2.29 in Houston, right down the street. Keep em' rolling on down................. At least until somebody in the oil industry sneezes and it goes back up faster than it's coming down.

I did the Math and converted Litres to US Gallons .... and .... Cdn $ to US $ ...

and the result was: $3.45 US/gallon

A few weeks ago it was $4.06 US/gallon! (I know, not nearly as bad as in the UK)

.... uh,oh ... wait a minute .... our gas just dropped another penny/litre at 5 pm today .... (not that it would make much difference in my calculations!)

However, my bus pass gives me unlimited travel ....... and I don't even have to consider the price of gas :)
