you know I keep reading everywhere about these docs giving this medication to their patients. I don't think anyone but a psychiatrist should be able to prescribe this. That was the original intention. Now every Tom, ****, and Harry with a medical license can write a scrip for this. Very negligent, I will be glad when my newer doc remembers that my pdoc already tried this and stop asking me about it.

I totally agree about Cymbalta...it does nothing and what it does do is not helpful.

I was put on this evil drug in December...it help me with pain but I was a zombie...I didn't give a darn about anything...I was so anxious that I had to take a xanax to calm me...I would just star into space most of the day...I would rather be in pain than to be on that drug!!!

Hi Tammy. I was put on Cymbalta too. It didn't take the pain away. All it did was make me angry. I had so much rage in me. I have never been like that. I felt rude and very short tempered. I immediately went off it and when never use it again

I've repeatedly tried AD's for pain. Each one made me feel worse - like Bannet said, full of rage, rude, cranky, you name it. Only Elavil sat okay with me - it's not an SSRI or SSNRI, it's an old fashioned tricyclic, whatever that is.

But that must be why it didn't bother me. (made me tired, but what's new?)

Still at wits end with pain and no docs willing to RX anything pain med wise, I was almost at the point of giving in and trying Cymbalta. Glad I saw this. I'll spare myself the trouble.

I'm on Cymbalta and it's working ok, but I have to admit, on most days all I want to do is sit. Maybe it's part of the problem. I should mention this to the neuro next month.

i was on cymbalta for DEPRESSION!!
It was fabulous for that. Unfortunately, it raised my liver enzymes so i now take Effexor, which is in the same family.

IMHO - Antidepressants should be reserved for people that are clinically depressed.
NOT for situational depression
NOT for pain ---- omg especially not for pain.

The side effects of all these types of antidepressants are very rough. And, they take time to work (4 - 6 weeks) - at which time, one (imho) should be under the care of a psychiatrist.

just my opinion,
sims

Just had to chime in on this...
My girl is almost 17.She had tried 3 other AD meds in the past.
All of them gave her heart palpitations and just didn't work out very well..Since she also has ALOT of pain daily.
Her doc said:lets try Cymbalta.
At first, she was feelin great. She didn't have much of an appetite.SHE LOVED that part, since she weighed just over 200 lbs.
She is about 5ft 1..ANyway..Time goes by and i'm watchin her.I just wasn't liking the change i saw in her..Sure enough...Last week,i see a fresh cut on her arm.So of course.I asked her.WHAt happened there?
She said:She thought her g'f's cat did it.
OooooKKKkkkkk. So i wait a bit more..Sure enough the cut never heals. It looks fresh almost daily!
Thats when i knew..She had been cutting herself again. If a med is working.YOU DON'T cut!Not in my opinion anyway.
So iasked her about it again. She fessed up!
We went out for the evening and just talked...Had ice cream...I just wanted to get her out of here and talk..ya know.Well she tells me,she had been having tremors in her hands on/off.I said:This doesn't sound good.I think we should discuss gettin off this med.
Of course, she was ambivilent about doing that.
I was goin to bed that night,i heard her in her room talking..
I thought she was on the phone...I lay there a bit longer, then i hear her crying..So i get up and go in...
She is shakin like crazy, sayin she is scared to death and soooo glad i came in there!!
The only reason she was trying sooo hard to stay on this med was because of her weight loss!
So of course that was a long night......I am no pharmacists..so i have no idea how many granules are in those capsules to divide them.
She had 3 left and we flushed them!
She was only taking 30 mgs a day.
I hope and pray her w/d isn't a nightmare like i read on here.
We called her doc and ..Her doc has left the practice!!!!!
Soooo,i had to find her a new one which means..No appt till april 25th!!
I hope and pray this time goes by w/out incident..
Just wanted to share our story about Cymbalta..
Wishing you all the best and hope your all doin ok now.:grouphug:

I am diagnosed as being Bipolar. I have been taking Cymbalta for several months. This combined with my other meds seems to be working fine for me.

I sure wish I had seen this thread a lot sooner! I had a pain specialist put me on Cymbalta just several weeks ago, and already I'm beginning to suffer from many of the side effects I've read about on here. I think it's time to stop using this drug.

I thought that I had responded to this thread before........but I guess not !

I had good results from Cymbalta......it didn't make the pain totally go away, but it certainly helped.

I think we should be careful about saying any medication is totally evil or should not be prescribed. Some meds are going to work for some of us and not for others. I do think it is helpful to be as knowledgable as posssible about any meds that we take. Knowing about possible side effects, so we can be alert for them and report to our doc ASAP is important.............but just because some people have a horrible reaction to a med doesn't mean everyone else will too. I can't take Penicillin, but it has saved millions of lives worldwide :winky:

I've been on Cymbalta for nearly a year and it works great for me! If it were evil, it wouldn't be so widely used. I use it for depression and pain. It's great!

I have been on Cymbalta, a few years now for neuropahty. I take a 30mg pill each day plus a 60mg a day. They don't make a 90 mg. pill thats why I take both. I have been depressed for awhile and it doesn't help for that at all. So I am slowly tapering of the 30 mg. and I am no worse because of it. Think after I see my doctor this Thurs. I will mention to him, my desire to quit it altogether. My drug insurance won't help me pay for it in the first place and I can't see that it helps. My nerve pain is bothering me, but this isn't the answer for me. Just thought I'd add my two cents worth in.
