We are looking for a light weight childs wheelchair near the Lehigh Valley PA (18252, Tamaqua to be exact). My daughter has a complete compound fracture of the tibia and fibula and has just come home from the hospital after reconstryctive surgery. She is non weight bearing for 12 weeks, and then will have another surgery at that point. They sent her home with a huge wheelchair that weighs almost 50 pound. With chronic pain and DDD, DJD, sciatica and buldging discs I cant move this darn thing in and out of the car, and they wont consider a lighter chair based on her needs. We went to 2 appointments today and I am ready to scream from my back pain. She will be using this for over 6 months for school and home and I have no clue what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Take Care,
Michelle

Thanks you Lara,
I am recieving a hospital bed and shower chair from freecycle members this weekend. I just dont want to feel greedy posting for that as well. We go to the surgeon on Monday again so mabey if I beg enough, he will try and persuade the insurance. Freecycle will be my next step. The people on freecycle are so generous!
Thank you and Take CAre,
Michelle

Try craigslist.org as well. I've seen smaller w/c's with extending leg rests on them for a cast type situation.
I had one about 6 months ago I'd have gladly sent to you...but gave it away to a friend whose DD has a brittle type bone disease. Hope your DD heals quickly!
