I am about to sign off for the evening and was wondering if anyone had heard from Cheryl? I know she was waiting to hear from her PCP about an ENT appt. If anyone has heard from her, please post on here and let us know. I'll check back in a little bit, but I've got to work tomorrow and need to get ready for the day.
Thanks!

Hi Chris....
I took a nap this afternoon and saw my massage therapist. I feel really crappy.
Still nothing from the ENT doc....my PCP has called them for me. They are still not returning my calls. Maybe tomorrow otherwise I am going to the ER...this is getting ridiculous...my PCP agrees.

Awww, Cheryl!:(
What a bloody mess! Do feel better, and do go to the ER if you haven't heard anything from the ENT tomorrow. Have some extra hugs from me. I'm glad your PCP is looking after you. Keep us informed.
Be well,
Chris
Well that plain stinks!! Hope you feel better oh Winged One.
Did the massage help at all? I had one last Fri and it felt so good.

It would be easy to get through security! LOL! Make sure you pack plenty of snacks DM! Bribes work well for the crew so they will stay on the plane with you! LOL!
No goosing the pilots tho...Gee, I do remember a story about a Southwest cockpit crew flying naked...(it's true, honest - I know one of them!)
;)
Yeah Paul, just one nap yesterday, but it was 3 hours long! Then I got up, went to the pharmacy, got some drugs, and came home and went back to bed! I think I slept about 16 hours yesterday!
Today I have a couple of "must do things." One being a legislative reception this afternoon. AMN/DM/Taffy/SallyC will be proud of me...another chance to wear my pretty red pendleton jacket from the "let's dress FG" thread...

The ENT specialist's office called this morning and after some cajoling (ha ha ha!) I have an appt with the doc tomorrow morning! They are going to "work me into the clinic" schedule tomorrow if I can be there at 8:30 with all the paperwork filled out.
I told her I am a very compliant patient and will do anything she wants so I can get in to see the doc...fax me the paperwork and I will fill it out and if she needs anything else just let me know and I will get it!
She asked me a bunch of questions and sort of implied that my PCP was not taking care of me. I told her that I have seen them 3 times in the last month and that they have done as much as they can and they are the ones who referred me to this doc...(thinking to myself she is the one who dropped the ball by not calling me 3 days ago to make an appt! - but I kept my mouth shut!)
So, paperwork faxed to me and I am now filling it out and will be there bright and early tomorrow morning....gravelely voice and all!

Chronic Sinus Disease, sinus infection and a deviated septum....
Cherie, I've had a sinus infection since Thanksgiving. After 20 days of antibiotics, no relief! The CT scan I had showed all the above...so a referral to an ENT specialist was in order!
Gotcha.
Sinus problems plagued me too for many years, and the first signs of MS were actually blown off as sinus problems. I have had two operations, and the last one was my saving grace.
I had blocked sinus passages from a nose-break that I never knew I got. That was the first operation. The second operation came after two straight years of sinus infections (many years of problems though). I was on antibiotics every other month actually.
I'll just tell you my story, in case you run into the same thing . . .
When I went in to see the ENT, he could find nothing obvious that was wrong. I would choke, I had constant infections, and was sick all the time. He did all kinds of tests, I was sent to an allergist (which I had many allergies), and then back to him.
It was the choking aspect that finally got me the dx. After three appointments, he spotted something dangling in the back of my throat. Turned out to be a polyp, but he couldn't tell where it orginated from. He guessed my cheek sinus passages, and booked me for a quick 20 min "snip" surgery. Several hours later, it turns out the story was that my sinus passages were "riddled" with these polyps, and the infection was so deeply entrenched, the antibiotics couldn't possibly clear it up. (Most sinus infections are hard to treat, but this added to the problem significantly.)
I don't know if testing procedures are easier for this condition, but I would ask if I were you. If it wasn't for that dangling one, I'd still be sick as a dog.
Good luck,
Cherie

I've had sinus infections for most of my life. I had a tonsillectomy in 1974 - that was a nightmare! An in-and-out day surgery ended up as a 3-day stay in the hospital! Docs don't like it when you don't wake up from the anesthesia...
Anyway, I have been allergy tested 3 times. The CT scan I had last week was my 3rd and this was the first time I've been told I have a deviated septum :mfr_wha:.... I 've not had any trauma that I am aware of...well maybe when I was a sophomore in high school but am surprised it's never been caught before...anyway...whatever!
I work in the wrong industry to have seasonal allergies, but I take medication and continue to do fine and deal with it. The antibiotics have always worked before so never even gave it a second thought.
However, I've never had any problems this time of year. This is different this time. Not going away. And it's just feels different. Nothing is showing up on the MRIs nor the CT scan. No polyps.
I've been told in the past that I need that scaping...but have declined b/c I know that once you have it, it will need to be done again and again. Not volunteering for any surgery that I don't NEED. I am not a good patient.
This guy is a friend and a good ENT surgeon. He won't lead me astray. I've not seen him professionally, only socially. That's why I wanted to get in to see him...I've not been pleased with the doc I have seen in the past.
So, we shall see what happens tomorrow. He's got all my records and he loves a good challenge - that would be me!
:D

Here's an update on my visit with the ENT doc this morning!
I have a black right eye!
He said that my right sinus is completely blocked, nothing to do with the deviated septum (which is inconsequential at this point) but from the infection! He has this really neat scope with these really neat glasses that you wear so you can watch what he's doing up your nose!
I knew everyone would appreciate that! I cannot believe how swollen my nostril is...gross!
But really cool looking up there!
Anyway, bottom line is that I am going to do a double whammy of antibiotics for 10 days, repeat the CT Scan and then if this infection isn't cleared up...yep you guessed it, surgery. He's thinking surgery anyway but wants the infection cleared up.
He will only do the right side b/c there isn't any sign of sinus disease on the left, at least at this point.
So...now I get to try a new antibiotic, two new ones! Yeah. I don't do well with new drugs! This is one I have never tried before...
*looking around house for benadryl*
The rest of the story is that the study doc wants to see me on Wed, a week early about my new symptoms, unless of course, the antibiotics kick in and I feel better by Monday. Great...NOT!!!

So your sinus infection is in your upper sinuses, Cheryl?
When I had the broken nose (before surgery to correct that), my sinus passages up there were completely cut off, so they wouldn't drain. At one point I had an infection that was actually causing pressure on my brain, hence the reason they had to operate virtually right away.
You aren't having problems with your cheek sinuses though, right (that was my second operation)?
I am so thankful I had both of those procedures done though.

The reason for the black eye is the pressure on my cheek sinus passage as well as the area above my eye. (and probably his probing and suctioning yesterday!)
His comment was that the whole right side was completely blocked. I assume he meant the entire right side and not just one part. I didn't get into with him as I didn't want to take up too much more of his time since he was working me into his schedule. I will know more at the next appt.
Right now I am just following this new protocol and hoping these ABX do the job. Surgery is NOT high on my list of favorite things.

Cheryl..........
I know many will NOT want to read your reply to this..but how in the world did you do the nasty flush???
My DH does it in the shower but I can hear him gagging and spitting....YUCK!!!!!!!
I tried it over the weekend and ended up throwing up.it gaged me so bad.........and I felt like I had got water in my nose at the swimming pool....I was misserable afterwards and couldnt sleep for a long time........
There has got to be a "trick" or an "easy way" to doing this........does it "REALLY" work? I mean to make you be able to breath and feel better???????
My DR said it may take a few times to get the saline mixture to my liking......I would just LIKE to never even try it again.........uuugghhhh........it burned so bad and I just have it in my head now that I dont wanna do it..........
I am so proud of you for doing it...........
and glad to hear your feelin better.........
You opend a can of whipp snot on it didnt ya????
Hey FG!!!! Top o' the mornin to ya! Oh, forgot, I'm in NC, not Ireland!
I had to read to catch up on how your'e doing! Man oh man~ That's some gross stuff you've been subjected to. I am glad you are creeping back up from the pile of doo doo that you've felt like for so long.
I am praying for you to get back to your old self soon. I just finished my 2nd round of antibiotics and I don't want that sinus mess back either.
Glad Holly is all better too. Feel better my friend.

I'm glad they got your culture results and that you are on the correct antibiotic. I had a suspicion that it was Staph. I hope you start to feel better soon, Cheryl. Staph can set up some nasty infections that are difficult to treat. But, it sounds like your physician was on the right track from the start. Here's hoping the Avelox and the Bactroban do the trick!:)

Yes, Sally. That is the most common place where "carriers' have Staph. Being a carrier means that you are not actively infected with the infection, however you do carry the bacteria in your system, with the nasal-pharynx being the most common. Community acquired Staph infection and carrier state has become a HUGE problem in this country in the past 10 years or so.

But, HOW did I go from being a carrier to infected? That's the question. Guess I need to ask the doc. He probably doesn't know either. Mystery.

You may have had another infection and became superinfected. Hadn't you been on a bunch of other antibiotics prior to developing this Staph infection? If so, they may have decreased your immunities and let the Staph infect you. You may want to ask your ENT for an Infectious Disease consult if indeed you are not feeling better in another few days. They deal with MRSA or "Methicillin Resistent Staph Aureus" infections all the time.
I recently read a journal article that said that almost 1/3 of the general population are carriers for Staph. I don't know if the Tovaxin has anything to do with it; perhaps that is something you may want to bring up with your Clinical Trial docs.

I see the clinical trial doc on Tuesday. He's got the culture results and I am sure he will discuss it with me. I also have a follow up appt with the ENT doc on the 11th.
There is an excellent ID doc here in town so if I need follow up with him, I can request that.

I got home late last night...around 1130 pm...tired...very tired. Just now checking in here.
Long day yesterday!
We got 4 inches of snow overnight, but the sun is shining today and it looks real pretty out! I am staying today to catch up on sleep, email, paperwork and sleep.
Sinus carp is still there. I did handle the flying ok for the most part. Had some trouble clearing my ears on the Portland to Salt Lake flight - sea level to elevation...not fun! But I am ok.
Had coffee with myscrewsbeloose yesterday. She sat with me while I waited to be called for my MRI. She is such a hoot! She brought me coffee to keep me awake! I was really dragging after the busy morning and all the blood draw...
Barely made it to the airport for my flight. Flight left at 5:15. I got to the airport at 4:45! I like those close calls!
And TSA rearranged by suitcase again. They are certainly bad packers...I think someone needs to have suitcase packing class for those guys. :p:p:p
Thanks for checking on me! ;)

As for the study, I had my last vaccine shot on 9/21. I am just doing blood draws, MRIs and neuro exams now. I have no idea whether I was getting placebo or real thing. My last appt in this phase is 4/1/08 which will also be the screening appt for the next phase.
How am I feeling? Loaded question since I've had this sinus infection but the study doc seemed to be pleased with my neuro exam yesterday so I guess all is well :D

Wednesday. I was helping out with some flower deliveries to the airport and the parking lot at the Forest Service was a sheet of black ice. I stepped out of my truck and bam! down I went.
Thank goodness I didn't have the two vases of Red Roses in my hands when I went down. I picked myself up, got back in my truck and moved it so a better spot before I even attempted to deliver the flowers.
I have a nice huge bruise on my left hip and sore left arm. Other than that, I am ok.
I have been so busy, I guess I forgot to post about it. Sorry gang. It's been a very busy week with Valentine's Day, the floral truck burning up, and the UPS didn't deliver our flowers on Thursday AT ALL!! Very interesting week!

We have the whole ice thing happening here too. I took a ride up Rt. 95 to the Canadian border yesterday to pick up # 2 for his school vacation and there was ice on everything. It was beautiful but there are trees snapped off all the way up a 20 mile or so stretch of the highway.
My driveway is a 1/4 mile sheet of ice and we have the whole snow/rain/freeze expected again tonight...grrrrr. I'm scattering wood ashes in hopes of at least thawing a trail to the cars!

........... My leg has all these really pretty colors but it will soon fade. It's not quite so sore and I can move it much better now! My left arm doesn't hurt quite so much either! :
Oh dear FG.
I've had many a fall now and each time I seem to break something different...except my sacrum....that's the big bone at the base of the spine and the start of the pelvis. I've broken that one twice the past few years! Are you sure nothing is broken?
Major hugs coming your way, and I do hope your soreness eases soon.

Sure, sure, sure.... get rid of the antibiotics and ya need something else to garner sympathy with. :holysheep: :Poke: :D
Arnica gel, Flygurl. Arnica Gel. I hear it's GREAT for bruising. Try epsom salts for the soreness too.
Maybe you need to go back, get the roses, and then take a beautiful rose/bruise photo for posterity. You could make that your avatar--the plane buzzing the rose/bruise thang. Modern art.........
Maybe it's time for a new career--landscape bruise photography. (not only does it feature plants, but you can print them in "landscape" too)

Seriously, I hope your on the mend and feel better soon. Epson salt is great for bruising and muscle aches.

Good suggestion!
A very long time ago, I started Copaxone and had a LOT of trouble with pain, burning, bruising, etc. and a VERY smary lady told me to get a tube of Arnica Gel, make sure it's the gel and NOT the ointment, put it in the freezer and use it on shot sites. It made it a lot easier to do the shots daily and kept me going on them until Tysabri was returned.
I keep it around now for everything! It's still kept in the freezer too!
Now who was that smart lady???...:Scratch-Head::Ponder:...
OH YEAH!! It was FLY GIRL!!:p
Hope the tube is in use over at your house there FG!!

I ALWAYS have chocolate Taffy. But since I am in Jacksonville, FL right now, you're going to have to come a loooong way to get it!!!
As for the rose colored bruise - yep that about covers it right now. It's pretty shades of reds with a little yellows thrown in there. Arnica gel works pretty good but this one is pretty deep so it's just gonna hafta work its way out.
Feeling better, Jappy...thanks!
Weather is pretty crappy here in Jacksonvile...yuck...rain rain rain! And muggy! Yuck!

I get to design a basketball court! Woohoo! And then I get to get all ther permits for the guys to build it.
I really think they asked me to design it cuz they wanted ME to do the paperwork for the permits! The permits part is the hard part, not the designing. I figured that one out!

I don't get hyper with the roid's at all. In fact, they monitor me pretty close b/c my BP is so low. I slept most of the day. Headache now and upset stomach, and my legs still hurt pretty bad.
I got my new laptop today and I am too tired to even play with it. Yep...Nappy convinced me to make the switch from a PC to a MAC...I am now the proud owner of a MacBook!
I have figured out how to turn it on, download MSN Messenger for Mac, and find this site...doing pretty good for a PC user!!
Oops, former PC user! *smack* that was from AMN, cuz I know she will smack me!
Off to bed before I hurt myself. Chat with you all later.

THAT is a surefire way to induce an exacerbation !!!!!

On a serious note, I hope that you do well with the IVSM and yes, I hope that your Redsox do well against my Halos this afternoon....as you deserve a break.

I think you are wrong Victor...I am a Retro Mac User...I own an original 1984 Mac and I still use it! It's slower than molasses in winter, but it works. ;)
When the PC community came out with "windows" we just laughed! But when we moved to the west coast, the Apple just wasn't supported so I had to bite the bullet and go the PC route.
Now I am back to Apple. This MacBook is easy...I just have to move my software to it and get it up and running! But not right now..it's going to take a few days.
Right now I feel like I've been run over by a truck, but that's normal for me after one day of IVSM...
Yeah, maybe the RED SOX will do well today! :D

Dang it Cheryl! It isn't fair that you need IVSM again. When do you get to go on the real Tovaxin?
Anyway, I hope the steroids work and you'll feel better soon.

Not sure Wiz. My first blood draw for the extension study, I didn't produce MRTCs....so now I have to wait 90 days for re-draw. Not making MRTCs is a good thing! That means that I converted...;)
But that also means that I will have to wait 90 days for re-draw and if I don't make MRTCs next time, I wait another 90 days. And will get a re-draw every 90 days until I convert back. Then they will draw the procurement blood and make the vaccine.

I wore my Red Sox socks today...the guys in the infusion room were giving me a bad time about them! Didn't help with this chest pressure, but I stuck up for my RED SOX...
Home now and am going to spend the better part of the weekend in bed...getting to know my new Macbook laptop!

Thanks Koala...I took a pain pill and am laying down on the couch...it's going to take a couple of days for the meds to kick in...one thing I've noticed is that these relapses are less frequent but seem to be more intense. I guess I can handle that...fewer drugs to deal with is better.
