In the whole "trying to save money" ordeal I have been thinking of making my own post cards so I asked an expert on the Mailing regulations.... this is what she told me incase anyone else wants to make your own! I have so many pictures of places we have gone around the state that I can use!
To qualify for mailing at First-Class Mail® prices, a postcard must be:
Rectangular and have angular (90 degree) corners At least 3- inches high x 5 inches long x .007 inch thick
No more than 4- inches high x 6 inches long x .016 inches thick
Postcard and Stamped Card Prices:
The price of a single postcard stamp is $0.27 The price of a single stamped card including postage (sold by the United States Postal Service) is $0.30 The price of postage for a postcard sent to either Canada or Mexico is $0.72
The price of postage for a postcard sent to all foreign destinations other than Canada or Mexico, is $0.94
Notes:
Square postcards cannot be mailed because they do not fit the size requirement for postcards. If your mailpiece exceeds the maximum dimensions above, the Postal Service™ considers it a letter and charges postage accordingly. If it does not meet the minimum dimensions above, it is considered nonmailable.
The postcard price is not available for folded mailpieces unless it is a double postcard with postage on each half.

that sure sounds to me like you can send photos as postcards ... what a great idea ...
I have a few addresses and am in the process of sending out a few paintings on card stock that I have completed. If you would like a post card or painting send me your address in a PM.
I would love to exchange some cards...I have a special post card scrap book I keep them all inside.

Just an idea............
Instead of a post card... how about picking up some brochures from your local tourist bureau?
We've been sending potcards with pictures on them so that others can see the different places where we live or where we've been, but a pamphlet or brochure will tell much more about the place where you live, or the spot where you spent your vacation.
Some people might prefer this. Just an idea!

Thank you, Vonn, for the cute little mouse postcard!! It just made my day! :)
I've been doing painted post cards since moving back here...it's hard to find post cards. I am going to a small shop that used to carry them and had some really nice ones...all of onions of course. We are the Onion City of the world...nope I ain't that fond of onions, grew those things for 18 yrs...
Brochures are nice idea... let me know which you prefer and I will send which ever you'd like.
I just sent one to somebody... This brain just doesn't work like it once did...how will I know if you got it:confused::eek:

CHAR : thank you so much for the card. It did give me a smile.
Today I am really down in the dumps waiting, waiting to hear about
the House Closing.
Also I have been in so much pain this week. I went to my Reuhmo
yesterday and got 12 shots in the different areas to help me with some
relief.
I haven't been able to find post cards where I live. Don't know which
stores carry them. Went to Card Stores, Walmart, Hallmark, even the
Dollar Shop. I might have to go to the big mall here.
Thank You again.

Just an idea for those having trouble finding postcards, how about picking up a free information brochure from your local tourist information centre, and sending that instead?
If you don't have an information centre, maybe you have a tourist attraction in your area. If you do, they usually have brochures advertising the attractions and these pamphlets make interesting alternatives to the post card.
yeahbut

I find my post cards at the local pharmacy - Rite Aid or Walgreens. WallMart has them around here - but we are a local attraction now.
Kitty

Large chain grocery stores (Kroger, Publix, etc.) have them in their book section.

Thank you Suzyqz for the eagle. We do have eagles in Australia, but we certainly don't have ones as majestic as those you have in the USA. Thank you for showing DH and I that one.
And....thank you Alffe for that look around the Big Apple. I hope you had a wonderful time on your visit.

Vonn07
12-02-2008, 09:04 AM
hey Kelly ... I use a 3-ring binder (one of those smaller ones) ... then made a template that measures for 2 holes ... I punch 2 holes in the cards to read the card on both sides ... then I would put one on the top two rings... then the next card is on the bottom 2 rings ... I alternate back and forth ...
punching holes doesn't really disrupt the card that much!!
have fun!!

I bought one of those small photo albums, and although I've had to slightly trim a couple of the cards, most fit beautifully. :)
HereKitty...thank you for the card I got today, I so needed a smile!!! Happy birthday, hope it was wonderful!!!
keeping the cards safe, I use a scrapbook with the individual pockets, the cards will fit without having to do anything at all to the cards and you can see both sides. One book will hold at least fifty or more cards depending on how many pages you add. Family dollar has them for like three dollars or less for the book.
