I am wondering if there a possibility we could find a safe way to post all our addresses to a site and then we could share the password and then have 1 stop shopping for all the addresses of those who want to participate....

Hi Chris!
The postcard exchange is great! We trade addresses and mail each other postcards with themes from where we live. I don't think that is a hard and fast rule though:D. I believe you can send any kind of postcard you want.:p
We need some new faces (to some of us:)) in on this, it really is fun!

Anyone made their own yet? The ones I sent out cost 1 dollar each and my son took a better pic of our beautiful depot than what is on the post cards I bought.
Unfortunately my printer is not laser so the colors and print will run if they get wet. Any ideas for me? Is there something you can coat them with to stop that?
Guess I'll go googling in the meantime.

I never thought that it would be hard to find postcards that are local to our area, but now that you mention it, we live fairly far within the city limits.:( I hope the local pharmacies will have some, othewise I may resort to "re-postcarding".:D

I found postcards at travel centers on the freeways and toll roads. Stop at some of the bigger truck centers/stops where the cars also stop. I don't know what they would be named where you are but I've seen some named "Love's" and places like that. They were anywhere from $0.33 to $0.40 each.
The postage inside the continental U.S. for a 4 x 6 card is $0.26, to Canada it's $0.69, and International is $0.90. Straight from the USPS clerk at the post office!

01-26-2008, 02:53 PM
I also just checked Walmart online and you can order postcards with your own pics from them. They start at $0.84 each. They've also got greeting cards starting at $0.33 each. Don't know what the difference is. Didn't take the time to check. It's probably easier than trying to cover with contact paper!
Just thought I'd let you know!!

Okay, everyone. I drove and drove and drove and FINALLY found postcards that have OHIO splashed across them. They still suck but at least they're not as bad as the other ones.
To those that I have already sent cards to (the artwork ones), I will also send you one of these. Imagine, two postcards from me that suck. Life doesn't get any better, eh?
I bought all 33 of them!! So, send addresses my way.
BTW, for the peeps having trouble finding postcards, I found mind at Cracker Barrel. Of course, while I was there, I figured I might as well buy a sock monkey.....two garden sticks.....bbq sauce....hand creme.........my postcards ended up costing me $56.00

I found mine at the local antique shop! Odd isn't it. I couldn't find them at the pharmacy, the grocery, the book store or anywhere but there. I'm sure they are lurking somewhere:winky:, but I've worn out my energy level.
I am using my Christmas stamps or some extras I have. I know it's more than the 26 cents required but the post office is about 10 miles away from me.
For people who are challenged by the thought of getting postcards, but want to participate do you know you can go to USPS online and order things there. The mailman will drop them off at your house!
Now that's service.

Joelle, do you remember how many stamps I put on the MP when I sent it your way???:D I had no idea how much to put and I didn't want it to get sent back for insufficient postage so I probably put 20 first class stamps on that poor envelope!! I'm sure the Post Office has a good laugh on me!!:o

:Dunno:Sorry to be so dumb, so if I just put 90 cents or more of regular stamps on the postcard it will get to the appropriate country - Belize and Australia?? Then I can just stick it in my mailbox for pickup. Looking for the easy way out. :winky:
I don't think any of us are dumb. It should work to just put the right amount of postage. Just call the post office and ask them. I do believe you can also order stamps from USPS.com and have them delivered to your mailbox. That would also save you a trip to the post office. :)
Okay, I just called and you can also go to USPS.com and they have a postage calculator.
It's 90 cents and they don't care what stamps you use as long as it totals that amount. At least that is what they told me. ;)

I am getting mine ready -need to go get the postage - have a BUNCH of postcards - went kinda crazy buying them - so I need some more addresses. :D
By the way, I bought a few at the Cracker Barrel, then went to a truck stop and bought a bunch more and they were cheaper, then I went to Wal-Mart where I shop at least 1 - 2 times per week - and what do you know - the Wal-Mart had a bunch and they were the least expensive and prettiest of all, sooooo of course I bought a bunch more !!!! I had never noticed that Wal-Mart had them - I have never sent postcards before...
Are you all placing them in scrap books and if so - how do you do it - I don't want to paste to a page because I want to be able to look at the back.
I am soooooo scrapbook illiterate - know NOTHING about how to even begin !!!

Hi Snoodles,
I've kind of lost track on who I sent one to and got one from especially for the folks who didn't put their username on the postcard since I lost my PM's from before so for some I have no way to reconcile the username with the real name... I'll have to check:confused:
Anyway, I did the same thing for my Belize and Australia postcards, used 3 stamps. I had to call my hubby and ask him how much was a stamp these days. We had stamps at home, but he always buys them and there was no amount on them LOL. Stuck three on the international ones and one on the others and stuffed them in my mailbox. Took the easy way out on that :D

Hi!
I got the small clear page albums at Dollar General store! I wasn't even looking for them and instead I was looking for small mailers and found them. I bought two as they probably only hold 15 or 20? At $1.00 each I thought I could splurge on two!! :p
I have to trim about 1/6" off the postcard to fit since it is meant for photos but works perfectly! I like the clear sheets as I can read the back of them too.:)
I wrote names, addresses and the screen names on a piece of paper and keep it in the stationery drawer so I can refer to it if I forget whos who??
I can't wait for the mail each day and have plenty more to send if you'd like one or for the children too!
Hugs and giggles,

OH - then I took some small labels and wrote everyone's name/signon and stuck it in the corner .. so when I flip thru it - I can see who sent the card!! cool, huh??

It was a really good mail day:
received 2 postcards, one from Hibbing, MN (who knew that was Bob Dylan's birthplace?) and a funny one from Lerayeville, PA.
And a cute card & postcard from Anthem, AZ. Thanks, ladies!
Was also very excited to finally receive an envelope from Brazil: we sponsor a cute 12 yo boy thru Christian Children's Fund. He drew a picture and actually wrote a sentence in English! I was so surprised!
I haven't been good to individually thank those who have sent postcards. Please accept my gratitude, ladies. It's fun to get to know you a little better.
Hmmm, I wonder what you can tell about a person by her choice of postcards???
Again, thanks everyone! XOXOXOXOX

I helped raise 3 children in South America. I cherished, and still have, every picture and letter they ever sent me. They are so pure and grateful for the help. One of my kids actually made it into college and was the star of a local Rock and Roll band. Proud Godmother I was!!!
I really should get another one...they grow up so fast!!!

there was a gorgeous one of Barb's school...
and a lovely lighthouse from Carolina!
and a cool Mardi Gras from Kathy
and a busy skyline from Vonn.
and a squirrel from Sheila!
there, was that discreetly descriptive enough?

that was my first MAIL (of any sort!) in months, so I guess I'm a little excited.
:D:D:D
now, somebody help me calm down.
I've been outside with a flashlight, helping hubby head off a march of ARMY ANTS !!
we were alerted to the disturbance by the chickens freaking out...
my husband is still out there in the dark, saying some VERY choice words, and trying to make a moat around the chicken coop.
hugs all, think I'll go back out and assist in the endeavor.

I have to apologize for not posting my thanks before now for the cards I've received over the last week and for not sending out any more cards yet. Can I make the excuse that I've been very sick?? Actually it's not really an excuse. I've spent most of my time in the bed, bath and beyond!! LOL.
I got cards from GladysD, Turtle 78, a Packers card from Von (that's my hubby's favorite team), and one from duvabw. I've got more cards to get out and I'm going to work on them this weekend and get them out Monday.
This has been so much fun that I don't intend to stop with just one card to everyone. You get to know people on here through the posts and it's fun to keep in touch. As you're reading posts you find out what different people like and don't like and all sorts of stuff about them. I've already got something in mind for someone. It comes from something I love to do and something she has mentioned she loves so that will be going out shortly. Does that make everyone wonder??? :D
Since I've been off-line for several days and I've missed the new people that have come on I hope that they will PM me their addresses. I'm going to try to catch all the posts and PM them but I might miss someone and I don't want to do that!
Take care!!

We have mosquito problems here...I can get out of my truck, run to my cabin door and unlock it, and be bitten a dozen times. We use lots of bug dope, even on the dogs to spare them! We also line the cabin with citronella candels and wicks....works great...if you have enough!!!

hey GJ ... sorry about the bug-gy issue with skeeters ... they actually don't like me ... and with the tingly/numbness - can't feel anyways on the left side if they try to 'pick on me' ...
I do have some good bug-dope that I get from Avon ... and also - the skin so soft stuff ... I've heard this from horse owners that would buy SSS by the gallon for their horses!
talked with a friend of mine yesterday - about having a 'summer' home in alaska, and then spend the winter in Wisconsin (november to april) ... hmmm - I'm thinking this would be very 'healing' for me!

I also have a mossie problem. They just loooove me, but I am allergic to their bites! If there's just one within a 5 mile radius, it'll find me.
I've tried just about every product there is on the market to try and prevent me getting bitten, and the only one I've ever found that works for me is the Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard (and I am not usually an Avon person). I was getting relief for a while from Lavender cream, but after a while that seemed to lose it's effectiveness.

I'm from California, and spent lots of time at the beach.
especially loved sunsets, over the ocean, so spiritually soothing, and beautiful.
so, I come to Belize, and want to see my very first sunRISE over the ocean.
I crawl out of the hostel bunk-bed when it's still dark, and take a few steps out to the Caribbean, and sink into the beautiful soft sand, crosslegged, and wait.
it's quiet, and beautiful, the stars are winking out one by one, and I'm meditating, and watching the dawn come towards me.........
did I mention my legs are numb? and that I'd never HEARD of such a creature as sand fleas?
oh *&%$#&^% !!
I counted the bites later (totally unfair MS problem, didn't feel the BITES, but, unfortunately, I CAN feel the itch!)
lol, I had SEVENTY FIVE bites on my calves, shins, and feet!
:eek::cool::eek:
some helpful person told me that Avon's SKIN SO SOFT is something that works well for keeping off the sand fleas.
I'm all: "NOW ya tell me!?!"

First time I ever "met" sand flies (or midges) here in Oz was a few years back. I was fishing off a pier with DH at sunset (the very worst time), in a pair of shorts and a bikini top.........I'd never even heard of sand flies or midges then. They are so tiny that you can't see them, and you don't even feel them bite..... They sound very much like kissing cousins to your sand fleas Kay.
Needless to say I couldn't count the number of bites, and all the pharmacies were closed, and I hadn't discovered SSS by then........You don't want to know about the night I had.

Oh yes, the lovely sand fleas!:) Fortunately, I was warned about them when I moved here :D! We also have the mosquito problem in the summer.
My first Halloween here (still summer in S. Florida!), I was outside handing out candy with my new neighbor and couldn't figure out why she was wearing long-sleeves and jeans when it was 85 degrees! Kitty,
I got all mine at truck stops on the toll road and freeways. You should be able to find some where they sell those little souvenirs and fireworks and such. We have no mosquitoes here or fleas either which surprised us being in the desert. We have the "bug man" come every month because some of our neighbors have seen ants and little scorpions in their homes!
I gladly write the "bug man" a check each month to keep them outta here; the bugs not the neighbors!! On second thought....
:)
We do have lizards in the back yard; little ones who just terrify me but my 82 year old Mom just loves to sit out on the patio and watch them scamper around.
One was sitting on the edge of the spa one afternoon last Fall while I was in the water. When I saw that 10 foot long DRAGON (3" lizard) I let out a yell and really flew outta there!!

Once a month surprises me. We get the bug man in once a year to spray for redback spiders and other creepy crawlies, and the once a year spray lasts all year round. We always know when the year is almost up because we start to see the occassional little spider or ant inside the house.

No way, Janie! This is coming from the woman who has eaten snails and snakes? You might not like to look at a lizard, but I'd bet you'd eat him if he were on your dinner plate!!! :D

My neighbor came over to visit yesterday and said she saw a lizard when she was sweeping her patio!
YIKES!! RETURN OF THE KILLER LIZARDS!!
I hope they will just stay out in the yard eating bugs instead of terrorizing me this year.
Seems every time I would be out hanging up clothes one would sneak up on me and I would nearly end up on the clothesline!!
I don't know why they keep after me; maybe they just want to sell me an insurance policy??

hey, Janie... we've got Jesus Lizards here (so named, because they can "walk" on water)
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3959/basilisklizarddz1.jpg
close up:
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2803/jesuslizardnw7.png
Abundant in the tropical rain forests of Central America, from southern Mexico to Panama, green basilisks spend much of their time in the trees and are never far from a body of water. When threatened, they can drop from a tree into the water and sprint, upright, about 5 feet per second across the surface.
To accomplish this, they have long toes on their rear feet with fringes of skin that unfurl in the water, increasing surface area. As they rapidly churn their legs, they slap their splayed feet hard against the water, creating a tiny air pocket that keeps them from sinking, provided they maintain their speed. They can move along the surface like this for 15 feet or more.

I was thrilled to see a Jesus Lizard run across a creek that feeds into the Macal River.
but then again, I was safely inside the car, lol.
our chickens pretty much keep the geckos, lizards, and iguanas away from around the outside of the house.
my main worry is scorpions and snakes... and fire ants, and killer bees... so I only go outside in tall boots, and long sleeves.
oh, and guess what, Janie?
I built my house with a LONG screened porch, so I can hang the laundry INDOORS, and not have to deal with, er, um, "surprises"
and I bought a five-line retractable 15 foot long clothesline, and a tall cushioned stool and work table (sized to fit a laundry basket), so I can gaze out at my farm, and pond and such, from comfortable safety.
:D
oh, and LOL, Kitty, on the tail!
I have another batch of cards ready to go out tomorrow.
incoming mail doesn't arrive until Friday...

I gotcher insurance guy right here!
a gecko, running across my ceiling:
http://www.geocities.com/kayl3on/thumbnails/gecko03435.thumbnail.jpg
they're really tiny, from an inch or two, up to 6 inches...
I don't really mind them, as they eat lots of bugs for me.
now THIS one is a tad more fearsome:
http://www.geocities.com/kayl3on/pictures/Iguana_03.JPG
took that photo from my front porch... it's a green iguana...
isn't she BEAUTIFUL?
she's about FIVE FEET long, from nose to tip of tail.

they're actually harmless, really, I promise!

EEK!!
I'll have nightmares after seeing those monsters!! Great idea about the clothesline; wish I could do that.
I think you really have a few more and even bigger scarier critters than we do!!
If I saw a lizard on the ceiling I would be digging a basement and we are on a slab!:p

Okay; ya got me. :o
Yes; I traded blizzards for lizards!:)
I would rather have the little beasts than cold gray days, ice and snow.
It could be worse; I could be shoveling snow and chipping ice off the windshield.
I still don't like 'em though and the little creeps still sneak up and scare me on purpose!!

Just one more thing to love about NT is how far we are allowed to go :Off-Topic: without getting smacked over the knuckles.....or did I speak too soon? Maybe we should start a lizards and creepy crawly topic!
I'm intrigued by lizards and gheckos and I did see a green iguanna just like that one Kay, when I was in Fiji many moons ago, and I do have a picture somewhere .....:Scratch-Head:... We had a little ghecko living in our house at one stage (when we lived in the tropics) and he did his best to keep our indoors bug free! They're harmless AZjanie and ever so cute. :)
Back onto postcards..........I sent out more this morning, but bought up big yesterday if anyone else would like one from Australia.
My DH is enjoying this post card exchange just as much as I am. He beats me to the mail box every day, and I never get to look at any I've received until he's finished perusing them! :D

I did get your post card thank you Janie......it arrived here on the 7th. I sent you a PM letting you know and I'm sorry if you didn't get it.
You're quite right.... the Tasmanian Devil is a nasty little critter and ugly as sin. Unfortunately this tiny island is the only place in the world where you'll find it in the wild. For some reason they've been struck down with a deadly form of cancer over the past couple of years, and unless they find the reason why and a cure, the little animal could be wiped out in a few years!
That's sad, because the Tasmanian Tiger also was wiped out back in the 1930's, but mostly by man that time.
Here's a link about the Tasmanian Tiger, and also one to our Tasmanian Devil.

this is so cool about the postcards .. I'm behind .. all of a sudden (which is a good thing) .. I've been bombarded with tax returns ... :yikes:
you bug/lizard folks should start a 'YOU BUG ME .. YOU BUG ME NOT' thread - you may find alot of lovers and haters there!!
we've had some nasty weather here to get out and get the postcards in the mail ... but will get somemore out soon ...
thanks to all already - will have to get another postcard album ... my friend has one of those 100 page 'flip' albums that she keeps on her desk at work - the other day .. I saw a postcard from Alaska that I sent to her in it ... that was the fall of 2005 ... that was cool!!
later gators!! LOL or should it be 'later lizards' ....
