Anybody interested?

Next shuttle: STS-122 launch scheduled for 2/7/08. It'll carry the European Space Agency lab module to the space station. 11 days. There was a brief discussion of moving the launch up to the 6th this morning - I don't think it'll happen though.

Then the next: STS-123 launch now scheduled for 3/11/08. It'll carry the first part of the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) lab module to the station. Big sucker. LONG mission - 17 days minimum. If it launches 3/11, I'll be COD Mission Manager for the first 6 days (The guy who's turn it is will be in Hawaii...)

STS-124 launch scheduled for 4/24/08. I'm COD Mission Manager for this one.

STS-125 launch 8/7/08, but we're thinking of slipping it to 8/28/08. This mission is going to the Hubble telescope to make modifications so we can get a few more years of use out of it.

STS-126 launch scheduled for 10/16/08.

STS-119 scheduled for 12/4/08. I'm COD Mission Manager for this one.

The flight numbers were assigned years ago for specific missions and crews. 119 just got postponed.

Can't wait! Thanks, Tom! I have my viewer and timeline all bookmarked and ready to go. Now I just have to remember to be there.:o

Oh, and Tom, while you're not using the shuttle, would you mind buzzing a few of us over to HI for some R&R?;)

Hey Tom, thanks! I got my ISS schedule for the weekend. I like how it tells you how many minutes. My dad will have to get his telescope set just right. His is programmable.

Good luck with all these missions going on. You are an inspiration to us all.

When are they going to allow civilians in space again? I've always wanted to go, and just think.....we wouldn't have much trouble with our balance. I think it's a smashing idea! Do you think NASA will go for it?:D

Thanks! We use to have the NASA chanel through our cable, but they dropped it for some reason. My kids loved watching it. I still have the July 4th (2006 or 7??)launch recorded on my DVR that they watch from time to time. My future little astronauts :D

Hey, what's up with the rock on Mars making everyone think it's a alien? I must say it is interesting and does look like someone just sitting taking a rest. :)

That is really neat !!! I would love to have a NASA postcard too ! :o

Hey Tom, Do you know anything about an astronomical occurence (or something like that) on or around December 21, 2012 ???? Just a curiosity of mine due to some shows I have seen on the History channel discussing prophecies around that date....

Hey!! Want to hear a weird story?

As some of you know, there were a LOT of people who got left in the lurch when Tysabri was withdrawn from the market. I was scheduled to start it when it was pulled and when it came back my neuro had moved and no one had taken his place yet. I searched for a neuro who would prescribe MY choice of medication and I got turned down. They were all freaked out about the lies and deceit that had been done by the other drug companies.

A new neuro moved in to the old office, I left a note with the word "TYSABRI" on it, and left it with the nurse when I made an appointment that if he wasn't willing to prescribe it to call me and cancel.

Long one short- I got it. When I went to fill out the paperwork all went well. The nurse called me back when I started out the door, with ONE more paper for me to sign. It was the final signature on the paper, that I somehow missed.

I started to sign it and heard the background radio ...."Grounds Control to Major Tom" and I just freaked and stopped short!

I listened to that song all the way through...even sang along with it, laughing out loud...and signed the paper!

It's been a long strange trip!!! :D

There were alot of people who wanted to see it hit, trust me. It would've yielded good scientific info.

As for 12/21/12 - no. I haven't heard anything. The date looks cool though.

Tom, There was a show on this afternoon that referenced various astronaut sightings of UFOs. Any truth to this? Have they reported seeing anything like that?

Hee hee! Busted!

I give people that visit me here a behind the scenes tour of the site - including the third floor mechanical room of Mission Control. There's 28 large freezers in the room, - 80 degrees C, holding "specimans." Use your imagination...

And none of this viewing room view of the historic Apollo control room. I take visitors directly into the control room. I'll take your picture sitting at the Flight Director's desk holding the "Red Phone" to your ear.

I haven't heard of any astronauts talking about UFO's yet. I'll have to ask a couple of them.

Tom

Now that's cool Tom.. but DM will not be looking for any little frozen aliens in those freezers.

Do you have a Pink Princess phone???

As a side, somber, note - the Challenger incident was 22 years ago today. The Apollo launch pad incident and the Columbia thing on re-entry were both in this same time frame (late Jan/early Feb).

STS-122 is still scheduled for launch 2/7/08. We're very cognizant of these events. Let's remember those who venture into the unknown for all of mankind and have not returned. We have ~ 135 astronauts certified for flight, with many more from the Canadian, European, Japanese, Russian, and miscellaneous Space Agencies dedicated to space exploration who take the risk to further mankind's knowledge.

Sorry. Got mushy........

I hope you do get the opportunity with all that is on your plate to ask about this. I have heard that particular info more than one time and also heard it contradicted... about astronaut UFO experiences.

Thanks for the reminder of the enormity of this undertaking and the cost. It is sad to remember those who didn't realize their dreams.

Aliens...
SHEESH!

Why would they come here? Of all the places to vacation in the entire universe, Earth has got to be like old Showtime or Cinemax to these creatures. You know, just a novelty to fly by real fast.

"Look kids, humans".
"We aren't going to stop are we? We read all about them in school".

Of course the Daddy alien is mad that they have to go in the first place and would want to cut 5 minutes off of last years trip and blow right past us to get to his MIL's place.

Or... something.
