I'm not ok. I miss my Dad something fierce. I am losing my husband. I am fighting for him, trying to get him to hang on...praying he can regain some strength to stay with me....

It is Dad's birthday next week. God help me, I am mad at him. He should be here! He promised me he would be! I desperately need him.

This song effects me, at first because of Dad... and now because of Lynn. It is in my head all the time. Sometimes I scream the words instead of sing them. Sometimes I cry through the whole song...sometimes I sit numb, wondering how someone else could write just how I feel.

This poem made me cry--thats a good thing I think because sometimes it seems as if I keep my feelings and frustrations buried and they build up like a volcano. I try not to do this, but after all this time it seems to just automatically bury itself. I used to be able to talk and deal with things so much better but I think I am just tired of everything, and especially tired of putting so much burden on my loved ones. This is why I am so grateful for NT. To be able to discuss openly on this forum with people who REALLY
DO understand is such a priceless gift. Thanks for posting this poem---it helped me to let out some of my true feelings and sadness, but also gave me much strength----many thanks---hutch

This video, if you have never seen it before, break out the tissues, it is probably one of the saddest songs ever, but with a great message to anyone thinking of suicide, or knows someone who is thinking about it, or anyone actually, but it might be a little tough to watch for someone who lost someone to suicide. My understanding is that, every kid they show in this video has lost a significant loved one to suicide, some show pictures, others are people who are feeling depressed or have attempted suicide

I think this song is written from the point of view of someone who may not have reconized the person who they lost was troubled.

I recognized that Derek was troubled and I didn't know what to do about it...

and altho he didn't take his own life by death... he took his life away from me...

I recognize that there is an unfathomable difference between losing your loved one to death than losing your loved one to estrangement.

I recognize how absolutely blessed I am that Derek's daughter's arrival is bringing him back to me.

Those who have lost to death will never have this... ever.

The song was just released this week. When I heard it, it took my breath.

As someone on that side of the fence, hearing these words made me stop and think of others in my life... how my actions have affected them.

As hard as it is for me --- I never want them asking Why.

After Dad died, one of the songs I listened to all the time was How do you get that lonely.

Rascal Flatt's song Why was released on their Unstoppable album on April 7th, 2009. After hearing the song Why, a friend sent me the CD. It was only a month after the 1st anniversary of Dad's suicide. Like ((Alffe)), it dropped me to my knees. I still have trouble listening to it.......

I did research the song though, if anyone is interested.....
It was writen by Rob Mathes and Allen Shamblin. In an interview with CMT on April 8th, this is what the group had to say about the song....

I wanted to ask you about the song, "Why," and the line about leaving the stage in the middle of the song. What is it about that imagery that really spoke to you?

DeMarcus: That song, in particular, was a really tough one to cut because all of our lives have been affected by suicide. Gary and I had in uncle in 2001 that took his own life. ... We were very, very close to him, and we were affected by that greatly. We played music with him a lot and grew up with him. Joe Don, as well, had a friend in high school that took his own life. So I think that for us that song hit really close to home and dealt with a lot of emotions that we'd been feeling -- and dealt with it in a way that was so delicately put. We felt like it was something that we could sing about, dealing with a very difficult matter that a lot of lives are affected by. It could give you a little bit of hope and a little way to deal with a tragic situation.

Rooney: It's a story that you get in your mind as you hear the lyrics. My friend who committed suicide was 17, the summer before senior year. That second verse -- "In my mind, I keep you frozen like a 17-year-old" -- it's eerie to me and it's haunting. At the same time, it's a poignant message for the youth out there, for the teenagers out there, struggling and contemplating that decision, which they shouldn't make. That's why this song's got a lot of angst in it because it wants to let that [message] out of the bag -- that's not the answer. You don't have to do that. There's so much more in your life to live for. There are so many more people in your life that are going to be affected by a decision like that. That's why I do love that song.

Thank you for the "history" of the song (Why). My mistake.. "Why" was just released as a single to radio this past week, the CD has been available for 6 or 7 months. (I double checked with a DJ friend of mine... he said the single has been out about a week to 10 days)
