Aw, tanks! That's right. Mother nature is a friend of mine. A tornado on my 9th birthday and now an earthquake when I turned FITTY. :D I used to be able to kick up a storm, but with the neuropathy all I can do now is sit and tremble. :eek::p

It was a beauuuuuutiful morning this morning. We awoke to a huge chorus of robins in our back yard, just before dawn and before our son went to sleep. I'm so happy for my son and his music deal. It's just the thing he needed to take with him to Iraq and give him a little extra determination to make it home safely in one piece. :)

My eyes and legs were pretty good, so after sunrise we took a walk down to the park with Geneva. Geneva gets so excited when I join them - it's such a treat for her to take me for a walk. :D

As we walked along the sidewalk, I told Ray this was the perfect present. He told me I'm a cheap date. :p

Thanks again. It was a wonderful birthday and visit with our son. He's back at the base now. :(

My ex-husband came into town. I talk on the phone regularly with him, but I haven't seen him since the mid-90s before he moved to California. He's been a big help to me because he's an ex-Navy man (Viet Nam) and talks with Dan regularly. He keeps me filled in on what's going on with my son from a different angle. :)

When he came over to pick up my son, I wasn't going to see him because I'm self-conscious about my looks. At the last minute, I figured what the heck. I'm glad I did. We gave each other a big hug, and it was the strangest hug I've ever felt. All the old feelings were still there - minus the intimate love. It fell into the category of "passionate friends." If he wants to judge me on my looks, that's fine - I'll just tease him for being so shallow. :p Turns out he's not as shallow as I thought.

I talked with my ex-MIL yesterday and she told me how much she enjoyed having her son and grandson together at her home. It was the first time they've been together with Dan as an adult. She said everyone was cracking up because they looked like a young and old version of the exact same person - they even walk the same. I've known all along they are almost identical, but it was funny to see it in person. :D

Thanks Doody. I understand what you mean, but you haven't seen the changes that have already taken place on my face. I realize I haven't entered into the "grotesque" stage yet, but I can see it forming in the mirror very clearly. It brings back flashbacks of my relatives in Finland. I was young and stupid and didn't know they were ill, but the look of those relatives in Finland terrified me. They didn't look human, and they looked very angry. I had nightmares about them for years until I could finally throw them out of my head and only claim Danish heritage. It didn't work - now it's all over MY face! :p They call it a "classic Bloodhound look." :rolleyes:

I know I'm getting close to that stage because kids used to like me - they never feared me. I'm starting to see the look on their faces like I must have had on mine back in Finland. It was confirmed to me one day when a little kid at the bank asked her mom what was wrong with my face. :o

My forehead will eventually drop completely over my eyes, and the bulbar palsy (jowls) will become extreme. :eek: Plastic surgery isn't an option because the skin doesn't heal properly due to the presence of amyloid in the skin. :(

I can either cry about my looks or laugh about my looks. Sometimes I cry, but most times I prefer to laugh. I think it would be foolish of me to consider myself pretty or even beautiful. I'd only be setting myself up for disappointment whenever I stepped out the door and into society.

Kathy you are another one of my hero's....I'm not going to post a bunch of platitudes about inner beauty but I so admire you for not shaking your fist at the heavens and asking why me?? Perhaps you do that in private, or in the arms of your man but you're my feisty internet friend who keeps on keeping on! I still hope we can get together in the future...but as I said before...watch Doody around your fella...:D She just raved to us.
