Says he is "off his meds or acting" in the recent (pro-stem-cell-research) commercial he shot for Claire McCaskill. You can listen to part of it here.

I usually post on the PN forum but I thought you guys should know about this.

Where do we call?
paula

can't call till tomorrow so I emailed:

rush@eibnet.com (rush@eibnet.com)
Mr. Limbaugh,

The symptoms shown by Mike Fox on the Missouri ad are not from being off his med; they are side effects of his med. They are involuntary movements from levadopa. It is called Dyskinesia. You saw him when he could function.

He may have been able to go off his meds years ago for the public but he couldn't now - off meds means just about frozen with intermittent violent tremors. This is called Bradykinesia. Both are devastating but off meds is far far worse. You need to retract your statement and apologize.

Thanks for this link. I'm madder than a hornet. Rush Limbaugh and his oxycontin doesn't know Parkinson's from a hole in the wall.

What a bunch of crap - comes right out and libels Fox!!

Argh!

Thank you for posting this. Paula, your email is fantastic. I'm very upset about the dissemination of nonsense and ignorance. He has the largest radio audience, much larger than any of the other talkers.

I was wondering lately, during breast cancer awareness month, why we don't have a PD month to enlighten the public about the disease, and to push for funding.

The Boomers are of age to get late onset PD, so I expect the numbers to rise more than ever.

Perhaps Fox should explain more about his symptoms to the public, so they understand what's going on with him.

Wow, this made my BP go up.

He opens his mouth and out tumble toads and slime and slippry worms.
Thank you Paula, for the email address. I enjoyed telling him to:

"Eat your sanctimonious outrage and apologize to M.J. Fox, a brave man, a good man, a far better man than you."

But Rush doesn't know from shame.........

get out more. Apart from being the wayward son of Mr and Mrs Lymbaugh, who is Rush Lymbuagh? and does it matter?

If he is a famous talk host, his controversial remarks on Fox is only garnishing more publicity and will only drive people to view the compelling video of MJ doing his head movement exercises, and promotong the Democrats.

Controversy sells, so if Lymbaugh has a vast radio audience of Americans then that is a huge target audience that may not have been aware of MJ Fox's predicament, but are now. Thank's Rush.

GO HARD SCIENCE

the trouble is, Howard, that Rush's faithful audience believes faithfully that Rush is right, and his audience is large.

I'd go to New Zealand just to hear the magpies sing in the morning. I hope you appreciate them - I never before heard birds sing like that - heavenly.

Even the ignorant have leaders that rise up to exercise their right to free speech. Rush Limbaugh has been attracting the confused and ill informed for years. He gets attention and that sells books, attracts an audience (the fringe element)...many who have much more serious clognition problems than we will ever have. He thrives and darn well too, on controver$$$y. There will always be these types of people around. Letting them get to you would likely get you a slap up the side of the head from the Dhali LLama. We just have to keep an eye on them in case they actualy become a threat to more than themselves.

Well, I'm glad rosebud finally said it. I wanted to respond to this post this morning when I first saw it. I couldn't get the words out of my warped little mind then.
Rush Limbaugh and his marry band of followers aren't worth getting upset with. He is just a pot stirrer. The more upset and excited you become the more he enjoys it. Don't even give him the time of day because he will argue about it.

is a big mistake. He has millions of followers who dote on his every word. They call themselves "dittoheads," because when he speaks, they just nod their heads and say, "ditto." They vote. They write letters to the editor. They contribute to political campaigns. They do anything he tells them to.

Fringe isn't fringe anymore. Remember, Katie Couric had this guy on during the evening news for her "Free Speech" segment to promote--get this--more civil discourse. He was an official election commentator on the networks in '04. He is on Armed Forces radio (people who disagree with his views are not). He is very, very powerful.

The time to sit back is past. That's the problem. A LOT of people ignored folks like him for a long time, until he and his ilk became a powerhouse. People have to fight.

It goes beyond stem-cell research. Big pharma, big insurance companies--all the people who often make life worse for those of us they're supposed to be helping--use people like him to whip up the unwashed to support their programs for stupid reasons.

I know he's a dirtbag, but this is the lowest I've ever seen anybody go.

UPDATE:

There's an article in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/24/AR2006102400691.html)with a quote from Limbaugh:

Possibly worse than making fun of someone's disability is saying that it's imaginary. That is not to mock someone's body, but to challenge a person's guts, integrity, sanity.

To Rush Limbaugh on Monday, Michael J. Fox looked like a faker. The actor, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has done a series of political ads supporting candidates who favor stem cell research, including Democrat Ben Cardin, who is running against Republican Michael Steele in a Maryland U.S. Senate race.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act....This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

When you see Michael J. Fox on Boston Legal you don't see him the way he is in the democratic ad. That is what Limbaugh is saying. It appears that he taped the ad when his symptoms were at their worst to make the ad more dramatic. BTW, Republicans are not against stem cell research. They are only against embryonic stem cell research.

I think Limbaugh goes much further than that. He passes judgement. My complaints are not political..they are about inaccuracy....and running with it.

Rush Limbaugh (and obviously, quite a few other mis-informed folks) need to watch this video.

as it has made item number 3 on the (UK) BBC morning news. The item showed the MJF video then included the priceless quote from Rush :

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease, he's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act".

Blank looks all round as "moving all around and shaking" are usually pretty common effects of PD. Then the info. that Rush withdrew his statements.

IMHO this can only be good, MJF spreading the debate re. stem cells and forcing people to stare the effects of PD in the face. What's the point of only being seen as the brave actor battling on through Boston Legal, "Yeah, he looked different but not that bad really after 15 years of PD".

I guess we all get something like that said to us about our own circumstances, at least I do.

Well MJF is shoving the effects of PD, (when you don't hide it), at 'em and they don't like it. On top of that he is globalising the debate.

Go MJF, you have my admiration.

for unwittingly bringing PD to "page one"!!
Now the question is, how we gonna keep it there, and how can we gain from this???
