What Makes You Laugh????

It has occurred to me today that I cannot remember the last time I had a good laugh!!! People send me all kinds of cutsey e-mails and lots of stuff I'd be better off not reading at all... but nothing funny. I often find myself sitting in a group of people and they laugh at things that don't strike me as funny. Even with all the stand up comedy shows of TV very few comediaens are genuinley funny . The one show that is funny from time to time is America's funniest home videos, where we watch people have a whole variety of unfortunate ocurreces happen to them, and even when they are obviously hurt we laugh.

This brings me around to the question .... is that part of our problem?

What do you find funny and how often do you have a good laugh? :eek:

Being the owner of the worlds dumbest black lab and a 16 year old blond daughter, i have plenty to laugh at. The dog is a few bricks short of a full load. The daughter is blond and has the typical "blond moments".

Most of my laughs come during conversations with other people (and occasionally with myself). I often say things that make people laugh and then I laugh with them. My brother has the same kind of sense of humor. Not sure how to describe it. Maybe it's like Woody Allen's humor? It's occasionally sarcastic, but usually is just a funny use of words when describing something or talking about something.

People at work make me laugh all the time. Often, it's silly humor, and I crack up because they other person looks so funny when they say something silly or funny. A couple of researchers from Germany, who are from the same small town, both get quite giddy, and I get giddy along with them.

We have real belly laughs at work, which is why I never want to retire.

Yesterday someone was in the kitchen doing something by the sink intently but I didn't pay attention. He was teased by someone about it, and I had no clue what he was doing. He said, 'seems I'm getting a reputation'. I said that 'sometimes a reputation can become a tradition' and he laughed, and said 'this would be a good one'.

Then I discovered he was filling a bunch of balloons with water, that they were going to throw at each other during a soccer game. The whole thing made for a few good laughs.

I enjoy dark humor in movies, like Prizzi's Honor. My date didn't get it and I thought it was very funny (years ago). And "Dexter" amuses me.

I also love "What about Bob?", "Dave", "Annie Hall", "Manhattan Murder Mystery", "Tootsie", "Big". It has to have a great screenplay to make me laugh.

I too get a good laugh out of AFV. My cat usually joins us for the show at all, which is just as funny because she sits on the foot stool in front of the TV to watch.

In general I have a dry sense of humor, and I love subtle play on words, and puns. With this I can almost always find something funny in any situation.

I get a great kick out of Monty Python. John Cleese has always been the consummate idiot which he plays to perfection in Fawltey Towers (not sure of spelling). He said in an interview that he and his then wife (she played the housekeeper/maid in FT) used to laugh so hard sometimes they'd have to take a break from writing to compose themselves.

I dated a guy for about two years who had a very different sense of humor from mine. I remember we went to a movie one time, and I don't remember what it was, but we never laughed at any single thing together. When he laughed I thought it was just stupid, and when I laughed he couldn't see what was so funny. At one place in the movie I was the ONLY one in the theatre laughing.... I don't think it was a very full theatre.

I remember telling elephant jokes with my sister-in-law at 2 a.m. and they were all old and stupid, and the tears were rolling down our eyes. She tells a great story too..

I used to work with this Polish girl who liked to tell jokes. But they were only funny in Polish. One day she asked me why no one thought her jokes were funny. They really do loose something in translation.

When I get on a roll I can really come up with some good one liners...but not everyone thinks they're as funny as I do. Marriage counsellors say that we always say a good sense of humour is a quality that we want in a companion...but that doesn't always work for us. In fact it often works against us. Humor is cultural and very perspective oriented. My first ex and I were talking about some things that happened 35 years ago. Funny now, but not funny at the time.

I guess if you don't take things too seriously you can find things to laugh at everywhere. My husband and kids make me laugh. I love them very very much. My dogs make me laugh with the silly expressions they get on their faces. People I work with are always doing crazy things that get you to laugh.I don't think I laugh any less now that I have parkinsons, but..........
I am more of an inward person now thinking about the way my body is behaving sometimes. I was always a quiet person, but now more so. I am in constant pain, and it is hard to laugh when you are so stuck on how much you hurt. I can't do what I used to physically and that still makes me sad. I think I have more things to be sad about now and it's hard to just rise above it.
So maybe I don't laugh as much after all, but I still appreciate humor in life.
I can still laugh at myself when I do silly things, so that means I don't take life too seriously and thank goodness that is a good thing.

but I am exhausted~!
-its a restored older home in missouri -aka misery!
it has a covered porch and a tree!!

and 12 ft ceilings in side -
it is lovely - I am very happy- I woke up happy!
life for me is simply an adventure
for I mostly live alone, the new neighbors are very kind and they always have beer in their hands! LOL...:Blush2:

I am 45 earth years -yet I feel sooooooooooo
much older - parkinsons disease is like dog years~
therefore - :Hum:

I have had the "scourge" for 15 years @7 yrs per anum... heehee?

7 X 15 = 105 years plus my age = 150 - this is how really old I am,
but I look great for 150!

Congratulations on the move to a new-old house. They have a lot more personality than the new ones. There's something special about them with the craftsmanship that goes into them, and the fact that they were someone's home for so many years before. The other thing I like about old houses is the gardens are usually well estabilshed so as the seaons changes, there are the surprises out there for the first year or so to look forward to. Right now I live in a newish house (100 years newer than my other home), and there are no plantings around to speak of so now it's my turn to do something with the grounds as time and money permit.

Anyway, you don't look a day over 28 :D

Tena it is years ago now when we used to have our arguements that went on and on for pages really. You know I miss that time for it was in fact a good time when we were or at least you were young and carefree. Then our worlds exploded and here we are in the present. Me I don't like it but we do adapt and take from it what we can and you do this admirably. Me I intend to still get into trouble but the consequences are no longer in my hands.

I have just pulled up my picture that I use to drive away the funks I get into lately,

A woman/little girl sitting on her knees on the beach with the wind blowing her dark hair and looking so lonely and alone. There I feel the recognition of my self till I see she has on sunglasses and while her appearance seems so sad I feel she has put on the blinders to reality and behind the glasses is the personal Tina and the one I can see in the picture is the one she puts out for the world to see. Brave caring and full to the brim with this thing we call life.

I truly love this child and hope for her all that makes her happy even an old house and a really old woman who thinks of her often for inspiration.

Then I too put my glasses on and get about living.

yet I would like to think otherwise...
my favorite dawggie used to smile at me -when I was a child -and even if he was only showing his teeth, it was still a funny (think) to see...
