View Full Version : Ideas for new BT2 name

Well now, I haven't stopped to think much about this, but to get the ball rolling:

Brain Central
BrainPower
Mind over Matter
The Nerve Centre
The Think Tank

I know some ideas have already been put forward, perhaps they could be copied here by the individual poster. Just makes it a whole bunch easier to have 'em all in one place.

(To all those who have criticized the choice of BrainTalk2 as a board title, remember it was named only as a temporary refuge for BT members; DocJohn has said he'll happily rename it - now's your chance to christen it properly).

More later :)
all the best

I stink at names, but I like all of the above :D

I think that most of those sound good. The only ones I wouldn't pick personally are the ones with colloquialisms in - it makes it much harder for anyone non-American English speaking to find the forum via a search engine.

These all sound good!

The name should also reflect a domain name that can be acquired, so unfortunately most of these are taken (at least the simpler ones!).

I like the idea of BrainTalk too. i.e. BrainTalk2 seems fine to me.

I don't think it's a good idea to change names ... people get confused.

I was at one forum that changed about 4 times, and with each change they lost a quarter or more of their members... In the end, there was almost no one left...

Rather than a thinly veiled copy...

I just really like the idea of keeping BrainTalk2.

It is Brain Talk, too.

I like this one a LOT. It says everything: it's a chat site, "neuro" establishes the broad-spectrum character, that it's more than disorders of the brain and more than physical / visible disorders, the name is easy to remember, "talk" is a familiar word that feels comfortable to me (or makes me feel comfortable, I'm not sure which) - oh Godfather, you done good! This is a great suggestion. :)

Feebs, you have some really neat "feel" names, but I confess that when I read just the words "no brainer" all by themselves, I lost it. Absolutely lost it. You hit the right spot on my humor scale at just the right moment when I needed that spot tickled - rofl!! Thank you!

Hi Crystal Cave...

I have to ask, does your name have to do with Merlin? There's a Mary Stewart book by that name about Merlin. I love it!

I goggled neurotalk and this site came up as the 5th website link already.
Doc John has already refered to us here as such so that would work out great!

ConsiderThis, wow! What a great question AND extraordinary memory. I had NO expectation that someone would recognize the name. No, no magical Merlin stuff here. I've always appreciated the words Stewart chose and the picture she was able to make in my head, but for me the name is also a metaphor, and I decided it would be a nice fit - that I can retreat to my cave without truly retreating from the world because it's made of crystal. I see and I am seen, but it's still private space and a shelter for me.

I hope you're doing well. I'm very happy to see you. :)

to take up space , but this is kind of like me having 2 granddaughters named Jennifer. It has been difficult at times, but they even play around with it now and then.

I named them Thing 1 and Thing 2 a couple of years ago. :p

I don't think BrainTalk1 and BrainTalk2 would work out as good as granddaughters.;)

It's hard to find a name that someone else hasn't already taken .

Take my name, first it was Jo, we changed something on the site and everbody had to re-register. Couldn't use plain old Jo, had to add the six.Jo6

Here, well you can see, JoJo6. lol I'm gona have to find anouther name, maybe Jennifer?:D

I like neurotalk. But I keep thinking it was so much more than neurology, or ... that probably doesn't matter. It's just a name. I guess it was mostly neurological. Well crikies, doody, it doesn't matter, LOLOL! Are fibro, TMJ, depression, ADD, chronic pain, and ulcerative colitis neurological illnesses? Because I found help for most of those matters at BT. Course, our brains are pretty important. But then, so are our hearts and souls.

Say, can we have a philosophical phorum at the new neurotalk? :o I think it's time for me to go take my hot bath and meds. :D

Not to mention May's concept of bifurcation ;)

But remember that the beauty of fractals come from this "chaos".

I do suggest tho that you get your brain blather under control as they have discoverd that the result of this chaos is associated with the onset of a heart attack (really!)

Wittesea, I am SO sorry - my eyes screeched right down the road until I hit the 'bold-blue-underline' sign, and on my way to the crash site I missed seeing the name in your post. I apologize. And an oops from artist. Another apology, this one to reverett. It's almost a done deal that something this good will pop up in different areas, all independent of each other. Thank you both. I hope the name stays in the "For Consideration" kettle.

(((Trekkers)))

By the mid 1970s, the movement toward chaos as a science was well underway, and in 1977, the first conference on chaos theory was held in Italy. Perhaps the most startling finding to come out of this new scientific theory is that order exists within chaos. In fact, order comes from chaotic conditions.

Exactly, lol. I love it.

Maybe BT2 is the mirror image (the order) resulting from the chaos of BT1.

Hi TCC,

The Crystal Cave, that's really lovely. I love to spell it out and think about it.
I'm so happy that you did mean that. I just loved the book. I read it, as an aside, in Marborough... which is apparently Marl - for Merlin - and Borough, for barrow... grave.

I personally would not change the name....I had a Yahoo board for the Tarlov cyst....Somone convinced me that the format for that board was difficult to use and that since the Tarlov cyst is rather rare I should tweak the name and switch to a different board too...Since I was paying monthly for the Yahoo board I dumped it....We were having a problem with people not posting much anyway..I switched to a different type board and changed the name to include spinal problems....I lost most of the membership and people are still not posting....The membership is growing slowly, but people still do not post....

I think people were very excited initially when they saw this board and thought it was the original Braintalk...As they slowly or quickly realized it was not, just another board that looks very much like BT....the excitement faded somewhat....but truthfully what is the big deal with using BT2 and using both boards?..Braintalk posters feel a kinship of some sort...There is no match or board like it on the Internet.. It is "magic"...I am certain you would all agree....There are many that would like to "clone" it...but they cannot..I cannot on my own boards and I am a very, very, nice person and intelligent too..(I know, I know...I should not be saying that about myself, but it is true and those that know me will tell you that about me and I agree.)...I do not know what the mix is on BT or why people feel so comfortable or at on home on BT, but it cannot be duplicated, so to close this board and to start another just because the original starts up again is silly...

It can be another safe haven for those to come to when BT is down again and it will be....How many times has it happened before?..I know people repeatedly e-mailed me asking me for the name of the board people went to when BT was down..People believed there was a board for us to go to when BT was down....So what is wrong with BT2...Some of you have stated publicly that you are more comfortable here anyway.....For some reason many of us tried to warn John and the moderators of the impending crash, but our threads were locked and we were threatened with banning if we brought it up again, so it was weird...People were hesitant to post at first, but little by little you are coming around and posting....Why? I think, because you need the comraderie of very old friendships. Many of you go back to the beginning of BT...I do not, but have made many friendships none-the-less....

Many, many of us use more than one board, don't we? I know I do...I have two boards of mine own and visit probably ten boards...I do not visit them every day as I do have a family and a life off of this computer, but I do visit about ten boards....

BT is not back up....I am not getting a message when I go to the address page...I do not read this board everyday to determine what is going on...so maybe I am not up to date on the new launching date, but this board should keep the name BT2....This was a nice gesture by John...He saw a need and he acted on it...We are familiar with the format....Why cause him more work and us too?...Let things be as they are....John has not gained anything from starting this board..... I do not think anyway...He has not gained instant wealth and fame.... Any number of us would have jumped on it if that were the case...The responsibility of running and maintaining a board, any board, but especially this board is monumental.

John has already been attacked publicly for starting the board....Some think he has alterior motives...and while some of us might have thought it, others did not hesitate to post their thoughts about his motives for the board publicly.....I do not know John... but, I certainly hope his act is sincere in just wanting to help people....There are many, many people that need this board....It is their lifeline to the outside world...There are many that are elderly, ill, need advice on surgery; pre/post-op, medicine, disability, etc., they might be suicidal, or something simple...We have all been there at one time or another..I know I have been...and I am thankful to John Lester for providing it....but am just as thankful now that John has put up this board as well....I say leave things as they are....You did a good thing....You meant no harm....No one would have ever found this place had you put up any other name....in all honesty....This can be home too...BT2! What's in a name?

ConsiderThis

Hi,
I think it's true that people tend to not come back when things change, even if they were asking for the change.

I saw it on other boards.

BT had a huge membership, partly because of huge publicity. Advertising pays.

But time does the same thing: more and more people come over time. So that's another reason to keep things the same -- so that those who do come don't get turned away by the change.
