View Full Version : Our Millie died this morning

Our beloved JR terrier, Millie, died this morning in her sleep.

We are all in shock as she just suddenly became really ill and initially it was thought she had a bladder infection or stone, but it seems she had cancer.

She was still bouncing around at Thanksgiving, but her condition started going downhill on Monday

My son is devastated as he got Millie in Jan 2000 (Millie=Millenium) after his dx with Tourette Syndrome, and she brought him so much joy and comfort during the scariest period of his young life

My fondest memories of her are the games she would play with my son, chasing a flashlight beam and also how she would bark and dance when we called "Dinnertime":o

We will miss our Millie so much

:(

So sorry to hear this news about your Millie. I'll be thinking of you all there. It's shocking when our beloved pets pass on. Your son must also be just devastated. I'm so sorry. *tears

this is so hard for those who love their pets so.

Are you going to bury her in your yard? We did this for our cats, and made
a little garden with ivy and all. It is really beautiful now, and it helps us
to see that earthly beauty (where it was a bare patch before). Somehow it
is more bearable that way. It might help your son "deal" as well... as painful as
it is, we all must learn to "let go"--even if in our hearts we do not completely.

Here is a picture of part of my pet cemetery/garden. I found some cute
stone statues over the years, and use them there. In the spring it is covered
with scilla, and trout lilies..very moving.

I am sure you will be getting a new pup soon...that is the best therapy of all!;)

your JR is where all great JR's go to in heaven. Doing all those unique things that they do and enjoying life after to the fullest.
Also, that Millie will be greeted by other great JR's I've had the honor to know and love, all of them with smiles on their faces! - j

thanks and ((((hugs)))) to all of you.
reading your posts here has really comforted me :)

I know it is going to take a while for the ache of losing Millie to reduce to a gentle nostalgic sweet sorrow, especially for my son, but you have all sure helped in my grief and I bless you for caring

(((((((((((chemar and family)))))))))))))

Chemar,

You have my deepest sympathies. I know how hard it is to mourn the passing of a beloved dog that is part of the family. Our Chelsea passed away in May of 2005, and it was so hard. We decided to end her suffering because she had tumors all over her chest and stomach. I still miss her, but now when I think of her I smile instead of crying... that took some time though.

Chelsea gave me comfort during the worst and scariest parts of my life too, so I can relate to how it feels to lose that connection that was so important and special. When my husband had cancer I didn't cry in front of friends or family - I cried with Chelsea every night. She would lick my tears.

It's such a blessing to know that she was always there for me and she will always be in my heart, the way that Millie will always be in your heart.

My heart goes out to you, your son, and your entire family.

(((Chemar))) - I'm so very sorry.

Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.

more thanks for all the hugs and support and poems and love that I am warmed by whenever i read this thread :)

a friend sent me this
HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed her eyes last night,
As her head was in my hand.
The Doctors said she was in pain,
And it was hard for her to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled her in my arms.
Were of her younger, puppy years,
And OH...her many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Chemar,
I just saw this today... i seldom ever come here. I'm so sorry. I remember when we lost our pet bunny "Miss B". It was such a sad time.
Let us know about the kitties!!! We've been talking about getting either a dog or a cat. We still have one bunny and we're not sure how a dog or a cat would interact with him. His name is Butterscotch and he pretty much has free roam of the house  Only at night do we insist he gets in his cage. He doesn't mind it though.

(((Chemar))) ... I'm so sorry to hear about Millie. (great name)

I love your snow globe photo from your original post here.

Pets really help us through tough times and they are wonderful to wake up to. I'll be interested to hear what happens at the kitty adoption center!

Chemar, having my own recent loss, it took me a bit before I could steal myself to read this thread..... I am so sorry about your family's loss - it is devastating to have a beloved pet stolen or a die.

And hearing about the kitten search, I wanted you to know that cats can adore and even demand a nightly play time with a flashlight beam. I hope you get such a cat.

And believe me that they can easily become used to supervising the making (and eating) of supper..

Hug and sympathy to you and your son ...
Teri

JD, my deepest condolences to you:(

when you feel able to, I do suggest that you get a new companion.
It will never replace your beloved friend of 15 years...but it does help to heal the empty ache..

with much sympathy
