View Full Version : Why I'm a little loopy at the moment...

AUSTRALIAN BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE BRISBANE
I'm not sure if that is a static link or whether it'll change after I've posted it, but I just wanted to show you all what's happening at MY place. LOL
See where it says on the map Tewantin? Then there's red lettering that says See Also ? Well underneath Tewantin and parallel to all the red lettering is a little headland and I live there.
Well, it built up to a Catagory 5 Cyclone (Hurricane) some days ago. It seems like weeks, it wasn't. Then it's slowly but surely come down the Great Barrier Reef and here it is sitting up off the coast making it's mind up whether to go away or turn around and come back. lol
They've downgraded it now to a category 3. Earlier today it was a 4. Now the weather people have decided to tell us 2 things. It'll either go away or it will turn around and come back in. One minute they downgrade the constant warnings and next thing they tell us to prepare for shocking weather the next few days whether it goes or stays.
I don't trust weatherpeople. Sorry weatherpeople, :o but that's just how I feel.
BTW the surf is astounding. The power! The howling at the beach. It's eerie. No beaches left here but they'll build up again I'm sure.
Well, just letting you all know in case I seem a little loopy lately. :) It's been quite an adventure. I just went outside and there's no rain and no gale force winds. Maybe the weatherpeople got it wrong again?!

Dear Lara, I've been watching the weather forecasts with you in mind.
This morning on the morning news, I watched the winds blowing like crazy at Bundaberg, and that's a town DH and I moved from about 4 years ago. Thank goodness we never got a cyclone while we lived there.
I'm worried about Fraser Island though. That really is copping it from the strong winds, and Fraser Is. is one of my most favourite places in Australia. I would so hate to see it damaged by this cyclone.
If the cyclone continues it's path down the coast as predicted, then you will really have to battern down the hatches and make sure that you're safe. Thinking of you Lara, and really hope that you stay safe.
Thanks very much. Nearly all the people on Fraser were evacuated. However, on the news just now they showed the conditions and it's really nasty. They talked to a few people who had chosen to stay and they had tiny little babies. I was shocked, but then they may live there and know more than I do about the conditions.

Makes you wonder why they'd risk their little babies, doesn't it?

Be safe!! It never ceases to amaze me when people decide to stay during these extreme weather events.
Living in Florida I see it all the time with hurricanes.
Be safe Lara.
Thankyou. OK here. I'll probably have a huge apology to the "weatherpeople" in the next few days for not trusting them...
I hope.

(((((((((((((Lara)))))))))))))))
I sure know how you are feeling having lived on the florida peninsula almost 20 years now
the worst is when those storms are out there, real close, with uncertainty of their direction
praying for it to change and hopefully head back out to sea or to weaken substantially:hug:

Ok, you have all convinced me...I'm going to stop complaining about the snow. :o Although it had better all be gone from Indiana when we fly back there today! *grin
Be safe. :grouphug:
Have a safe trip. It's just past midnight here. Very late for me. It's the 11th of March already. I am going to actually attempt sleep.

I hope the weather get s better soon for you, Lara. There is nothing worse than waiting for a storm. . . and we, in Florida, have had a few "waits". It is very unnerving! Hang in there!

BB!!! So good to see you finally post. :D
It's all bearable here today. Still bad weather, but I'm not so afraid today. My original link that I posted keeps updating so it wasn't a static link. The thing has turned around and is going back up north by the look of it and it's weakening. I guess I owe that apology to the weatherpeople hey? lol

*rubbing eyes...
bb's here??? :D :D :D
Lara, you better be resting...Or I am going to have to send you some bagels.. ;) LOLOL
(I was thinking about that drive where you and D and D said you all were still full from eating those bagels hours before and then none of us knew the road and while I was looking for the name of the street, you were looking for a particular tree when they all looked alike to me...LOLOLOL)
I have been resting up thankyou. Can't buy a decent bagel here.
Had the best night's sleep in ages last night.
LOL about the tree. Well heck, I tend to use those sort of things as landmarks lol Trees, hedges, letterboxes, you name it. :o
Well, the damage continues. We now have an environmental disaster.
I saw this ship off the headland two days ago.
I came home and said to a neighbour (former Navy Diver and SAS) that there's this ship here and it's heading north. How come there are ships out there in this weather? He said something to the effect that ships can deal with this sort of weather. Wrong.

This was actually before the full extent of this disaster was realized.
We have turtles hatching. Their eggs covered in oil.

I saw the oil slip on TV Lara. As if our shores needed that right now....I don't think so!
I hope those those baby turtles survive. That would be just awful if we lose them as well because of the oil, the poison and the gale force winds.
I'd forgotten it was hatching time for those cute little ones. Are they Loggerheads where you live?
Running out of online time here. Forgive me if I'm away for a few days. <sigh>
Yeah, there are Loggerheads, but other types also. People have been down there trying to save them, but many hatched already and disappeared into the grime.

Sorry that you've run out of on line time.
I'm pleased to see the cyclone has been downgraded, but please stay safe just the same, and I hope those little turtles are safe as well.
Hurry back dear Lara.
You wouldn't believe it...
Yay, I just was able to re-charge online. I'm thinking it's taken me into the red, but I reckon it's better to be red than not read. :)
phewww.
Thank you, Koala. I truly appreciate your concern.

I have been keeping you in my prayers Lara. You have an awful lot going on over there. I totally understand that feeling of having to wait out those storms. I lived on the gulf coast for many years. I got really tired of that stress. I am really sorry to read about that oil slick as well. I have seen that happen on our beaches and its an awful mess for years to come ~sigh hang in there dear friend I am so happy you will still be around here. I miss you when you are gone.
