The dang robins are back and pooping all over my porch railing, chair cushions...pecking at the windows. Last year I just finally gave up and they nested (three families) in the eaves around the house..they also pooped all spring on the porch rails.
That one must have watched me washing the railings yesterday and putting out those chairs for the first time.
Trying something new before I give up...they now have a radio on that porch, blaring NPR's Dianne Rehm show right now and I'm taking a bucket of soapy water out to clean it yet again.
Suggestions would be most welcome. (I don't have an owl)

How about 3 cats! With bells on their collars of course, you can have mine....They eat too much!lol
Actually, what we did was supply food & shelter for the birds AWAY from the house..As we learned the hard way that is you want to see the cute little birds up close, ya got poop close.

Speaking of birdhouses, yup, that's what I'm going to do. Wanted them close to where I could see them flitting about, and now I have huge messes. I'm going to move them soon, away from my porch!

You mean I can't have it all ways? :D I can't feed them, keep heated bird baths, and wren houses. So far the loud radio has worked wonders.
I wonder if they enjoyed the Diane Rehm show as much as I did. *grin
Neat site Doody...I can't stand the starlings..they are the only ones that poop in the bird baths!
And gardengrl....we have a dog, Cooper...or he has us!
Thanks!

mom bought a bunch of rubber snakes and put throughout her garden to scare the birds and squirrels away.... it works for a while then she has to move them around...
People here use rubber snakes to keep the scrub turkeys from building their mounds in the back yard. Then I realized we had real snakes in the back yard, so I'm not sure how useful the rubber ones were. lol

Remind me to come visit when the birds are still in the south.
Did you ever try the WD40?
Have you heard of Anti Pigeon Spikes? I wonder if they would help. It keeps birds from landing. Plastic spikes. Pokey on their feet.

Invite some kids and give them squirt guns?

I guess it just comes with the territory. I wonder if you can put a "diaper" on your furniture and railing, ie a clear plastic cover. Then you can remove it when you want to sit out and hose it off. Then get that glass of iced tea, and all of you can listen to NPR. (I love Prairie Home Companion, myself)
Did I tell you about one year Moi called me to look out the window..."Quick!! It's an exotic bird!!!" I rushed over and there it was...sitting on the garden fence...an American Robin! LOLOLOL For some reason, we rarely see on here in the southeast. So..........I wonder which "south" they fly to in the winter?! (I guess that is for another thread)
Anyway......enjoy them!

The robins got used to the loud radio but the neighbors didn't. :o
I've now smothered the porch railing with vaseline since they don't like sticky feet.
LOL Moss...these are the same robins I used to look forward to..harbingers of spring.

Hey! Vaseline really works!! I win this year. *grin
How about you prepare for next year? :D
I checked out some of the products when the links were posted. Some of them should work well if you get them organized before it's Robin Time. Well, I guess before your winter because you seem to come out of winter really fast. One minute it was snowing like crazy by the sound of it, the next thing it's Spring?
Anyway, that way you have time to make sure they don't nest where they're going to make more work for you.
I'd just love a little Robin living at my doorstep. Would be better than giant green jumping huntsmen, that's for sure. (they're spiders, not men). :)

Hahahha, love the vaseline. But, when mom holds onto that railing.....
I wonder if a recording of an owl would work? Then neighbors wouldn't know:D
I hope everyone is enjoying the 1st day of spring!! It's NOT sunny here but 58 for a high....I'll take it:)
I was tryin to post earlier but mom woke up to P...I hid under table as usual, but this time she found me! I said I was looking for earing...lol Dang, she is up too early. This is supossed to be MY time:( Oh well, here we go again...Everyone:hug: Have the GREATEST DAY!
gardengrl. Hiding under the computer table? aww, you're so sweet. *coffee
Are Robins afraid of Owls or something?
If they are, how about a replica of an owl? Could make one and stick it up there like a "scarecrow". I made some chooks once out of aluminium sheeting, Cut it up and added the art work. From the road they looked like the real deal.
Spring has sprung,
The grass has riz,
I wonder where the birdies iz?
