Not everyone is real happy about how fast everything has happened here.

Poof, we had a new forum..then threads about names. Polls and more polls. Lots of votes on the poll, more than ever that post here.

Not everyone feels they got a chance to voice their opinions.

We need to discuss this before a name put up. Same thing for a logo. Or not to have a logo.

1. Do you think all the choices were on the poll?
2. Do you want a second poll after the "field" has been narrowed?
3. Should the poll of a name, if you choose to do it again, should be for those that post here?
4. Do you want a logo?
5. Are you fine with everything and just forget this thread?

Im happy with whatever. I have always thought that when I feel lazy to read a thread or Im not interested, I simply dont read it and that's it, I dont mind if other members are having fun in them... But I respect if somebody feels "not happy" with all the threads.... Id love to actually hear (read) other's opinions...

In my case, I say to the mods, please feel free to delete as many of my post/threads/polls as necesary, I dont want to bother anybody.

My guess is that the polls were all in fun. I, for one, don't feel strongly about a name, a banner or anything. We can stick with SOS chat or OT orchange it to something creative. I trust you!

It wasn't about being fun or not being fun, it is about it getting confusing. (the whole forum is OT...so fun is to expected)

Some didn't realize that they needed to post on more than one thread. They gave name ideas on one and didn't know they had repeat. Weren't sure which polls were for fun or for real.

Not everyone has the time to read so many threads or are able to check daily. That type of thing.

anyways, just wanted to add my voice ;) to say all that is wanted is for SOS members to all feel they had a voice and a choice in naming and branding the broom room sunshine inn sos social chat place :D

especially as this is the special sos room, it would be courteous for those who dont really ever post here to let active members choose the name rather than skew the poll by sneaking in and votin' :wink:

if everyone is happy with Sunshine In(n) grrrrrreat :grouphug:

if not, then it is easy enough to run a new poll with the top contenders from the last to choose from, including option to keep the SOS Social Chat name, and also have a selection of logos, including those nice ones you did BlueMajo:) I am not sure what the specifications are for Doc to upload a logo but I would think the simpler the better...

I like Sunshine In.

It makes sense to me that the regular SOS posters be the ones to make the decision and so far, on this thread, it has been regular SOS posters making comments and they seem to either say Sunshine In(n) is fine or that they are fine with whatever is decided.

I don't feel the need for another poll, unless there are some regular SOS posters who strongly feel they did not have a chance to participate or that they got confused on when and where to vote.

Just my 2 cents. Oh, and I agree with Chemar - "Just do it"

its not that i dont want to turn lights out I am just busy lately so many doing worse then i and I am trying to support /help that other things get put lower on list.my kids has 25 days of highschool left then she is off to college a few months after that.

One thing I do agree with, naming should be done by people who post here and on SOS. (Might be a person who pops in occasionally. )That should be a given. It was the same when MS named their OT forum.

I'm another that doesn't like the name Sunshine in(n) and would be happy to leave the name as SOS social chat. If another poll is run, then it should only be for members who post in SOS, but I don't know how you can achieve that outcome with a voting poll.

I like the Sunshine In because of the little ancedote that Moi posted about being saved from committing suicide by those very loving people. It touched me very deeply. It is the story behind the name that I like.

I am sorry for not posting lately. My right hand has been in much pain and hard for me to type. But I felt the need to answer a few questions and put my thoughts on this.

First of all, please know that I, myself, love that we're all different and have different views and it is what makes life interesting. And for those that do not like Sunshine Inn vs those that do that is all good. :)

put 10 names on the poll and we're going to have 500 opinions and that's why democracy rules. With that said, I, myself, will like whatever name is chosen. I am a go with the flow person myself and when I saw that input were wanted to name this place, that it was going to be FUN. :)

And what FUN it was...seeing all the fun names and brain juices flowing...it was fun...

FUN in an SOS forum...could that be possible?

I think the SOS forum started sometime between 1999 and 2000.

It started in a place called braintalk(that used to be MGH) and migrated here to NT.

I remember lurking at the SOS forum for awhile before I even had the nerve to jump in.

It took a few months...I can remember reading and intrigued and reading about what people were going through. On a taboo subject that I was deathly afraid of discussing in real life.

I can remember the healing that went through with the anger of the survivors and I can remember how I was afraid to jump in even though I was going through the thought process. I had a rep for being a joker already...

I am not sure how I was perceived but 10 years later, here I am, still here...maybe some will say it's a curse and maybe some will say what the heckit...but either way, I am still around...and if it wasn't FUN, trust me. I would've been gone already...(hmmmmm, don't some of you start getting ideas. :) )

unconditional love...love that went through anger, being angry at each other, misunderstandings, saying too much, or too little...

love that went through how could you do it, how can you think that, then just like any NORMAL family. We come back to the dinner table and Alpho serves us some tear soup and we all hug each other again...

will we ALL ever agree on everything...ridiculous if you ask me...

will we love each other and embrace one another? Don't anyone question that... :) Of course we will! :)

My thoughts on members vs. non members. Now, don't get peeved or angry at my view, please...

for me, FOR ME, I cannot say that if a member posts 10 times that would make a person a regular member.

I cannot say that someone that only lurks here could NOT be consider a member. If they are registered at NT and are afraid to "jump" right in at the SOS forum. I definitely would consider them a member.

I cannot say that ALL lurkers here are members. Because as we know that there are spammers, people that want to do research, someone just happens by here because they did a search.

At the same time, I cannot put a NUMBER to a post to define who is a member.

But those are just my thoughts...

here are my questions.

If someone lurks here today and tomorrow, someone in their family committed a suicide. Do they become a member tomorrow or were they a member today?

If suicide is more prevalent than we realized. Some say only be 2 or 3 degrees of separation. That would mean that every 2nd or 3rd person that we know would know someone that committed suicide.

Then, how do we dictate who then becomes a member or not?

As a community that is trying to grow. I personally don't think we should put posting makes one members vs none-posting make non-members...

For one, it would be hard to distinguish who is whom.

for two, I think it would make others a bit more intimidated to come in and get their feet wet.

once again, these are my views. I am not saying they are right. They are just my views.. :)

I like to think, in a pollyanna way, that a person that has come to this forum. Didn't come here by accident(even if they did, it was by some divine chance). Maybe it didn't happen to them today. But perhaps it would be tomorrow or a few months or few years down the road. That if they DID come here today, that they would remember it down the road if they should chance upon this awful monster. And that they would know how to find us again.

it's hard to put it all into words as to why I asked for this forum but I am going to try...

there were(still are) some private conversations of my talks with folks that lurk here but feel like they are just afraid to step in and talk. I try to encourage them but I always end with: ONLY WHEN YOU'RE READY to them. Because we all know that if we're not ready to talk. We're just not ready to talk.

at the same time, I am flattered and honored that they feel comfortable enough and trust me enough by talking to me about it in private.

nobody's ever said this to me. but I get the sense that shyness is one factor and the one of the other factors is that the person usually feel like their story isn't "important" enough as they read others suffering...

but I think everyone's story is just as important. EVERYONE....I want to dig out the story about the eagle and the dove again one day and maybe I will, but that's for another thread...

I am sure we all have folks that talk to us in private. Not just me. And I am sure we all have friends that tell each one of us that they might feel uncomfortable.

And I am always glad to see them to start posting and start to talk.

And even then, it can sometimes take awhile to fully open up.

I had thought that perhaps a subforum would be a good way for some of these members(on-lookers) to get their feet wet.

Sometimes, for some people, it is easier to get into a forum by "easing" in vs. just getting into the heavy stuff...

that's what's good about life, that we're different....

but it was never my intention to take the FUN out of the regular SOS forum.

like Lara said, there's bound to be some serious in the fun and some fun in the serious.

this is where the personal side of this request came in. For those topics that can get really OT.

Maybe we want to talk about gardening or mozzies...can't see that as a header in the regular SOS forum:

"OT, my peonies are being eaten by my cat" ;)

Before somebody says: But there's social chat.

How many of us feel comfortable OUTSIDE of SOS forum?

I rarely see a lot of the regular SOS members venture outside of the SOS forum.

So, I wondered if by human nature that we associate "HOME" with "COMFORT"

thus, I requested for this subforum based on these reasons as well as others.

I didn't think it was going to happen so quickly. I asked about it in the morning and by night, it was up. I had thought that it would be brought out and be discussed and then we'll talk about it and weigh in and blah blah blah...

and then if it happened it happens if it doesn't, it doesn't...


but that's OK too. ALL things happen for a reason and I am glad that it went up and gave us chances to talk about it and such while it's up vs talking about having it up.

And if tomorrow I come and the subforum is gone, that would be fine too...it will NOT take away the love that I have for you all.... :)

IF this forum is to stay. Then, whatever everyone decide is fine. I think people shouldn't be afraid to say what names they like or don't like. I think folks shouldn't get offended (Not saying anyone is offended, :) ) if a name they've chosen is stated as not being liked.

My mother loves to eat the fat of the pork. I can't stand it. When I was young. She always made us eat what's infront of us. Pork was cheap and it was a regular meal.

I fought her on eating these things. I cried, I cringed, she yelled, and she cried. We were both frustrated.

At the end of the meal. I still love her and she still loves me. :)

You all are such intelligent folks. I value ALL your opinions and the differences of it. I truly love it when someone can rebut me and make me think. I love it when another POV is thrown out there...

I love it that we can disagree and at the end of the day, pull together for each other and still hug one another and love like no others...

that's what makes this SOS forum so awesome and unique...

Because it was a long post, by the time I'd finished typing it others had posted. I then deleted the whole thing because I felt intimidated.

I'm sorry you lost your post, Koala. May I thank you for your honesty. You were much more honest than me. I just ran away from it.

I decided to go away for the rest of the day, but I came back for a peep just now and see you were strong and posted how you felt. I felt the same way. Intimidated.

I don't know why we let ourselves feel like that but some things are difficult to ignore. I'm sure nothing was said with a mean spirit, it's just I for one don't like being told that one thing is more important than another and I don't like telling other people that something that might be seriously important to them is not important to me etc..

I can totally see why you dear Moi asked for the forum... I had figured it might have been set up for those reasons or similar reasons and I totally understood anyone/you asking. It's one of those things where you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

edited twice to add: I don't think I've worded my message particularly well. I'm sorry for that. I'm sick and tired and not thinking so sharply as I could. My intention isn't to hurt someone. I see enough potential for that as I read the posts and signatures. I just needed to say it as it feels right now. I often feel/think some things ARE important to other people and I'm usually happy to accommodate their feelings rather than my own because I can see the need.

I guess I will try to put words to my feelings, don't know if it will make much sense but here goes..

I first started reading here at sos because of Moi. He has a wacky yet comfortable sense of humor. Yes I stalked him here LOL

I never considered myself a survivor of suicide since I first thought that to be a survivor you had to actually try to commit. How wrong I was on that.

I lost a SIL to it and have had to try to come to terms with why and what could I have done different. I honestly had no idea that she had tried before because people generally do not speak of it. (the elephant) Afterwards when I would see stuff similiar in movies it really really bothered me. So I just supressed it down farther and farther and didn't talk about it.

So I have lurked here for some time. I don't post because I just don't know what to say. Maybe I don't want to say what I want to say...who knows... I suffer with chronic pain from spinal problems and syringomyelia and depression is my biggest fear. I have had some strong spiritual moments that have saved me from most of my pain and almost all of my depression.

But from reading here at SOS I feel like I know many of you even though in reality I do not. I read of your daily struggles, your laughter, your fears. Because of me reading I felt like I was a part of the whole. Then when I read about who should vote in a poll it hit me wrong. Regular posters vs non regular posters...After all I consider myself to be a lurker.

Goes back to feeling like a part of something even if I am the wallflower looking in the room...or broom:p

I was so touched by Nikki and what she has gone through. I lost an uncle to what they said was Alzheimers but it was actually Huntingtons Disease. But I remember watching him go away little by little.

So thats all I can give for an explanation for now of how i felt earler today...Sue:grouphug:
