Could sugar-fed fungi gone awry (candida yeast overgrowth) be a contributing factor to PD? I crave sugar and wouldn't give it up for anything - except to wallop PD! Now THAT would be sweet! ;) ibby

I was diagnosed with systemic candiasis in about 1979 when it was still a very new field of study. I was on an anti yeast diet for 2 yrs. I could eat nothing with yeast in it which includes anything enriched with vitamins or containing sugar, cornstarch such as bread, cereal, milk, no sodas, fruit juice, peanut butter, enriched flour or rice, almost anything. I could eat as many vegetables as I wanted. After about a year the doc swithed it to a rotating diet also which meant I had to rotate my foods so that you wouldn't eat same thing every day which can lead to allergies. It was a very tough diet, don't know how i did it.
My weight definitelly went down, but not too low. As I recall, I wasn't as depressed, but other than that, not much else. Maybe my memory isn't that good. But I have never gone back on diet. Since then the doctor switched fields to internal medicine I believe.
Maybe now that I have pd, depression and a host of other problems I would benefit by it, but just haven't had the initiative to launch into diet again.
One thing I do recall was that about same time, when talking to someone I was nervous around or in a stressful situation, my face would tighten and shake as if I was cold. I don't know if that was the beginning of my pd, but it was about 30 yrs ago.
I too love sugar, definitely addicted to it. I need to turn on my willpower and stop eating it. That alone would make me feel better I am sure.
There were 2 books I read to learn about this condition. The first was "The Missing Diagnosis" by C. Orian Truss and the 2nd one was I believe "The Yeast Connection". Can't find the 2nd book, so can't remember author. Hope this helps.
