OK....this is just too much. My son just showed me an announcement on the Internet that he passed away at his home this morning. What is going on???
I just read this also, appears he wasn't wearing a seat belt in a flight home and the tire blew on landing, this causing him to hit his head real hard, he died later that night in his home.
I am glad I didn't break the story here, I was starting to get the reputation of the grim reaper.

He was also 50 - same age as Michael Jackson.

How sad for his family. What a shock.
Now everybody has to take back all the mean things they said about him, right? No, of course not. His tv "persona" was not meant to be warm, fuzzy, and lovable.
Another odd contradiction of our culture. We can "dislike" celebrities, make fun of them, be annoyed by them, but we also realize that they are real people, with real feelings and real families. So we can say "Ugh, I hate this actress or that singer" but we honestly feel bad when something happens.

If it weren't for Oxy Clean I wouldn't know who he was. All I remember was he yelled.....didn't speak.....yelled. But that was okay. I just turned the volume down.
I hate it for his family. Death is awful enough when you're expecting it. When it's just out of the blue.....such a shock.
Maybe now we'll stop saying "death comes in threes". It comes whenever it wants. :(
Rest In Peace, Billy.

Sounds like a similar scenario as what happened to Natasha Richardson. Unknown head injury. So sad. :(

I just saw him on Conan last week. He looked great and it seemed was doing really well. He was even doing Arm and Hammer commercials recently. This is sad, along with all the other recent celeb deaths. That's at least 5 now, isn't it?

Michael Jackson - I grew up with him. Loved the young years but when he became Wacko-Jacko it was over, Thriller or not. Then the rumors and trials and stuff. A shame. He was 3 years younger than me, at 8 I saw the 5 year old til now.

Actually, what I heard on the news was that the plane he was on had a hard landing and the overhead bins flew open and he got conked in the head with something from the overhead bin. He was on camera afterward acting like it was no big deal, saying "I got a hard head".
He was sort of annoying on the middle of the night infomercials but he was kind of neat on the new Discovery Channel show "Pitch Men".
Either way, 50 is too young to die.
I always thought his commericials were seasonal.
I knew Spring was on the the way when his commericials began to air.

I heard the same thing. Even saw him on the news at the airport and he seemed fine. Just goes to show that head injuries....however minor they may seem at the time....need to be checked out. By the time sx appear it's usually too late. :(
We enjoyed "Pitch Men", too. I love the Discovery Channel.

they said on the news a little bit ago that they didnt see any evidence of a head injury on the autopsy.
They did see signs of heart disease tho.
The M.E. was apparently not saying what they thought was the cause of death until they do the histology studies (examine the tissue samples)
I heard this noon that the autopsy was done and he died of a heart attack: I think it was a massive heart attack. And that he had heart disease. There was no evidence of any trouble by being hit on the head.

The news report I saw said something about a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) that broke off from his leg, and went to his heart. It can happen after sitting in an airplane seat for hours, with the lowered cabin pressure. its important to keep wiggling your feet, legs, and arms.
really sad.
Yes, it is important to wiggle your legs and get up and walk around some. Even when riding in a car after two or three hours you should stop and walk around some. I hadn't heard anything about DVT. The flight was from Philadelphia to Tampa I believe so it can't be that long of a flight. Not like going overseas.
I'm sure they will have more on the news again and it seems that the news keeps changing no matter what. I even heard he wasn't wearing a seat belt. But in his own words, stuff came out of the overhead and hit him in the head. He said he had a hard head and no problem. So it's not like he bounced up against the ceiling and hit his head. Time will tell.

If he died from the injury received, from falling debris, during the hard landing, to his head, then the Airline is liable and should compensate his Family, without being sued. It's the right thing to do.

3 reports said plain old heart attack
3 reports said DVT.
I give up
The autospy clearly showed NO head trauma.
Poor guy, keeps um guessing till the very end, but wait, what would you say if I threw in a DVT? would you pay...:winky:

Only if you call in the next ten minutes....
Seriously, though, they are reporting here that his heart was quite enlarged and they are saying it was hypertensive heart disease. They said that the M.E. said that with his heart looking like that, he could have died at any time from a cardiac event. I haven't heard about a DVT yet.
He grew up in the Pittsburgh area and his family is still here. This is definitely the big story around here. They are planning his viewing here and said the funeral will be private. The viewing is going to be crazy, though.

I guess I'll have to go out and buy some Oxiclean to remember him by!

The news reports that I saw said he died peacefully in his sleep. I guess if you've gotta go, that's a good way. That's how my grandmother went. She was 102.
I still say 50 is too young. I'll miss his frenetic pitches on the TV.
