I have read, and I do not want to release my own medical information:

You can take your muscle relaxer tablets, 1/2 a bottle, and grind them up in a coffee grinder or other small type grinder and put it into simple, cheap, plain cold cream or soft cream and then mix it. Then when you're doing a light massage, you have the masseuse use that to work into the painful areas, gently, and not too much, and you may see a benefit.

Also talk to your doctor about if you are diabetic, how you might be able to do your pain medication in a diabetic injection and it is cheaper also and easier on the stomach.

Everyone who reaches past a certain pain point really must have a pain management doctor, and they are usually anesthesia guys - there are others, like D.o.s, etc., but the anesthesiologists are the best, I think, if one can find a good one who understands the horrific pain of neurogenic TOS, etc.

I am just trying to hang on, hang in, I have no special insights on how to fight this - I do believe that every TOSer has more than just TOS - some of us have immunological things going on, or TOS triggers it - and like Dr. Brantigan told me, there are so many hundreds they haven't even named yet. So I think that trying something, seeing how it works FOR YOU, and trusting your own conscience, is the best way. I have listened to too many doctors who didn't know what they were talking about, and then just a few who did. Go with how your body reacts.

I try to get a walk in every night - that is my test as to how I am doing - that and whether I am frozen and can't move.

"Thoracic (tho-RA-sick) outlet syndrome refers to a group of symptoms caused by the compression or irritation of the nerves and blood vessels in the thoracic area between the neck and abdomen, where the heart and lungs are. The term 'thoracic' refers to the middle area of the back, and the thoracic vertebrae are the twelve spinal vertebrae of the back that correspond to the twelve ribs of the thorax. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, and weakness of the arms and hands; pain and tightness in the shoulder and neck; chest pain; headaches; dizziness; and ear pain. Treatment may involve physical therapy, pain medication, or-- in severe cases-- surgery. A new device, called a 'C-E Vascular Machine,' which can be used to diagnose thoracic outlet syndrome, is currently under consideration by the F-D-A. It's an instrument that works by evaluating minute (my-NOOT) amounts of air pressure changes that occur in a sensing cuff, which are amplified and filtered to make it possible to measure arterial blood flow. If you have symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome, contact a health care professional for a diagnosis and for treatment information.

Injured in a fall in 1986 - finally diagnosed with Right side TOS in 1988, went bilateral in early 1989.

Had rib resection in 1988(June I think) worked for about 3 months....went back to even more severe and bilateral at that time.

Retired for medical in July 1990.

Treated by VA ever since.

Been an interesting road.

"You have TOS."
"You don't have TOS."
"You might have TOS."
"You may have had TOS."

Anyway...to sum it up...a LOT of tests later and over 20 years....

I have:

TOS(Bilateral Neuro/Vascular)
Fibro
Arthritis(L5-S1)

Constant pain body wide and no options left. The VA was talking surgery on elbow/wrist such as is done for Carpal Tunnel and Tennis Elbow....not interested.

Now for a question.

Has anyone had Nerve Root injections(I think thats what it's called)?
I am going for eval in early Dec and am trying to get an idea of the effectiveness of it before committing to anything. I also go tomorrow for eval for TENS unit and will actually get trained this time. Used one before but quit working after I left the hospital, probably because I didn't have a trained medical person to apply the leads where they would actually work.

Wife is now a Licensed Massage Practitioner in Washington State and will be able to help...just don't have a unit to use.

If anyone on here has any info on the injections and effectiveness I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
