Default New to this forum, single mom of bipolar son

Hi, my name is Molly, and I am new to this forum. I am a single mom of a newly diagnosed with bipolar he also has adhd and odd. I am also diagnosed with bipolar as well. My son's symptoms include hallucinations, both auditory and visual, extreme anxiety, rage, aggression, and uncontrolled crying. He isn't stabilized on meds yet. I am struggling with fears about his disease, focusing on the future, he is only 8 years old, and I am having trouble staying in the moment. I am looking for any tips for managing symptoms, and support form other parents struggling with similar circumstances. Thanks for checking this out, and any advice or support is more than welcome.

Hi,

You might want to post in the regular forum below:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum38.html
This place right here does not get as much traffic.

I am sorry that you are going through this. Your son might not have ADHD or ODD. The medicine for ADHD is probably making the Bipolar symptoms worse. If you can, keep a mood chart. Google "mood chart" to either find print or web based charts that keep track of
1. side effects
2. symptoms
3. sleep
4. medicine
5. and outbursts

The chart will help you when you see the psychiatrist and will help you to keep track of what is going on so you can see progress.

Here is a web site that is good for parents connecting with other parents.

Yes please do come to the other forum. There is a lot more activity
there. We can give better advice there.

I would also contact your local

Nami Organization. See if they have a parent organization. For a support
group.
