I am new to this forum and for the last 4 yrs I have been dealing with panick attacks and anxiety and depression. They have tried several medications on me and so far i am at a stand still. I go see a therapist on a regular basis and my dr. I was seeing a physcitrist and quit going because all she did was push pills. I have be diagnosed with
post traumatic street disorder
generalized anxirty disorder
and agoraphobia
I did have 2 jobs and at both of them I worked by myself. my outside job the business closed so I am collecting unemployment. My other job is a work at home job which is very slow right now. With my Social issues with people I fell like there is no way I can work outside the home with a bunch of employees. I take prozac 60mg and xanax 3 or 4 a day. I am going back to my physcitrist next month. I have applied for disibilty. it is not that i cannot work. it is the people I have a problem with. Could disiability be an answer for me?

Disability is for people that cannot work.

NOPE!

"To qualify for benefits, you must first have worked in jobs covered by Social Security. Then you must have a medical condition that meets Social Security's definition of disability. In general, we pay monthly cash benefits to people who are unable to work for a year or more because of a disability."

your best bet is to have a free consultation with a lawyer or lawyers, who specialize in Social Security Disability Insurance. You can find them in the yellow pages. Someone who previously worked for social security would be an additional plus. They would better be able to tell you if your psychological disorders that limit your ability to work gainfully and function in a work environment are limiting enough to qualify you in your particular case for SSDI.
Some of the previous answers you got here in this thread,may not fit your particular situation and may well not be valid for you.

Some of the previous answers you got here in this thread,may not fit your particular situation and may well not be valid for you.

Do you have access to a Vocational Rehab Specialist who might be able to help you locate employment that you can manage ?

Trying to find another job,even if you find that you cannot manage the interactions with other employees, can help a disability claim. Failed work attempts can show that you cannot perform SGA.

As it stands, it sounds like IF you could find a similar situation to the job you last had, that you COULD work. I think you would need to prove to the SSA that another job like that doesn't exist and you cannot work at another job. Having sucesfully worked at your last job, you may have a difficult time convincing SSA that you can't perform SGA.

Are you aware that mental illness, which is also a "medical condition", can be classified a disability? For some people, mental illness is as disabling in terms of being able to work as physical disability. So do be careful before just dismissing someone's question this way, as only the SSA can actually make that determination.

So if I tell SSA that I can work but not with people I will be considered for disability?

no, that is not what I stated Biggerbetter so please don't be argumentative.

I clearly said SSA makes the determination, not just that they grant disability to anyone who tells them anything.

The OP was stating that they are physically able to work but that their mental health is what is disabling them.

Again, only the SSA can determine, based on the medical records and their own evaluations, whether the claim has merit or not.

You should direct your comment to SSDI. If you clicked on the link I posted you would have seen that what I posted is a DIRECT QUOTE FROM SSDI.


EDIT: I just realized that SSD changed their wording but it is still basically the same.

"The definition of disability under Social Security is different than other programs. Social Security pays only for total disability. No benefits are payable for partial disability or for short-term disability.

"Disability" under Social Security is based on your inability to work. We consider you disabled under Social Security rules if:

You cannot do work that you did before;
