Crazy Anyone's pain fade away over time? Anyone have nerve pain?
My pain has lessened over the past 22 months, and after an impact to front tooth caused some nerve pain during the early stages of the TBI, it seems I now have nerve pain in the roof of the mouth.

Curious is any mods or members here can relate to having nerve and/or head pain, and what has happened to your pain.

Default different but maybe related
Ever since the accident I get severe pain behind my ears...my mastoid bone. Drs just "listen" to me, and go on to another topic. While the pain is less frequent I still get it along with the other more frequent symptoms.

After 18 months I still occasionally experience tingling and occasional cramping in my feet and ankles; I had quite a bit of lower body trauma so I suspect it's some residual nerve damage in the lower extremities rather than related to the TBI.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (pelvis, ribs, skull). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I still deal with periodic depressed moods but for the most part glad to be alive and looking forward to the rest of my life.

My pain has not faded in 36 years. I have a theory that the pain thresshhold in my brain was permanently lowered. I no longer take pain meds; I consume them.

Yet I continue to hope. And pray. Praying's good.

I've read that, over time, taking pain medications can actually lower a person's tolerance for pain too.

That's good to know, thanks. I've only been taking pain meds for a few years, surprisingly.

Well, I hope you have a Pain Management Specialist. If you don't, ask to be referred to one. They should be able to better explain the consequences of taking pain medicine for too long. And evaluate your situation better than any other doctor could.

That goes for everyone who suffers a lot of ongoing pain - get yee to the pain management specialist's office!
