I was reminded of this thread when I read this in our local news this morning. There is something in there that I think is a key point.
Quest - Sunshine Coast
Bid to cut bullying on Sunshine Coast
March 09, 2012 12:00AM

Quote:
Despite schools working actively to combat the issue, Mr Carr-Gregg said the missing link was the connection with schools and parents.

"Sadly many children have formed the belief that there is no point in telling anyone about bullying because no one will do anything about it," Mr Carr-Gregg said.

"Parents need to listen to their children without interrupting them and tell them two things, one is that bullying is wrong and it is not their fault and two, tell them to report it to the school.

"The secret is tell, tell, tell because bullies thrive off secrecy."

I don't know if any of you have seen this site... but please take a moment and look at it... and if you feel like it... please sign the petition to get the movie rating changed from "R" to PG13. It received an "R" due to the language and nothing else. (The link to the petition is on the right hand side I think it's the 2nd box from the top.)

I think this is a movie that needs to be seen by all.

Please help make a difference.

Like Abbie and others, I was bullied in school. Unfortunately I did not handle it well. I was weak and the bullies loved it. Years later I told my Dad about it. I said that if school shootings had been the "in" thing back in the 70's, I would have been a good candidate.

I'm 52 years old now, and have recently been attacked by adult bullies. Adult bullies have different methods but the effect is the same. I was chased away from what I had considered a comfortable haven for many years before these people came along. Adult bullies are the worst, IMO. They are not mindless like children; they are cold and calculating.

Sparky,
I'm so sorry this has and/or is happening to you!

I never thought about it but now, after reading your
words, I do agree that adult bullies can be vicious,
cold, and most likely calculated in what the are doing.

Thinking back now, I was bullied at a job so bad that
it was a major factor in my leaving....I took about a 50%
pay cut just to get away.

I wish you the best!

Thank you, Abbie!

I think children bully others to test what they can get away with in life, for instant gratification, and to look big for their "friends". Adults, I believe, have ulterior motives.

I am beginning to think that the media are also some of the biggest bullies. They pick someone who is "different" ... and when there is no news... they go wild with it... for example, the recent news story about the woman who tanned all the time... the media was/is relentless...

Yep, no matter our age, there will always be bullies. They are people who are not happy with themselves... and they need help, big time!
