Pain medication, Mrs. D?

I am taking supplemenst including Curcumin as recommended for a flare.

I am having another flare and in pain all over.

I do not take any anti seizure meds or antidepessant for my pain.

I have been taking 1 advil -200mg and 1 Mersyndol- 500mg (acemetepheine) which also contains 9.6mg codeine phosphate.

I do that twice daily to control diffuse neuropathic pain. But still poorly controlled even with this.

I am booked into see a neurologist.

I have been on this regime off and on for 3 weeks. My question is am I still within safe limits of pain medication use? I am worried about the warning labels on Advil and kidney issues.

Many of the views are automated (search robots) and do not reflect members

It is difficult to comment on your question, as well. People vary so much in response to medications.

Some people can take Aleve or Advil for years with no side effects. Others may be very sensitive to the bleeding risks associated with them. Aleve (naproxen) is the least cardiotoxic
of the NSAIDs... but it still carries a risk in long term use.
The RX version of Aleve is 500mg/dose. So the over-the-counter dose is much lower as you can see.

Taking an NSAID and acetaminophen drug together is not recommended long term. This may be additive to liver and/or kidney toxicities. You can rotate them, over several days however, a little more safely.

So no one here can really tell you how YOU will react to this combination. Hence, you have to defer to your doctor on this.

Have you been taking cucurmin for a long time and are familiar with the effect?

I don't know if this has any relevance to your situation. I have a little mild post herpatic neuralgia in my face from shingles. I tried some tumeric and after the 2ed dose I went outside where a slight breeze hit me and it was "youch!" It hurt the entire time I was out and for a little while after I came back in the house. I stopped the Tumeric and haven't had any problems since. I didn't notice any effect on the neuropathy in my feet, but I dont know if there was none or it did occur and I just ignored it as the usual variation in pain levels.

I find spices very difficult for my PN now that I am older.

I used to use curry quite a bit, but it makes my feet burn now at night. So I had to give it up.

Hot sauces made from nightshades also are problematic for me.
I have to live a very bland life now...

Thank you for reply. I am unable to take a lot of the PN meds due to anxiety and other reactions. I am sort of stuck and figured that low doses of OTC meds should be ok until my GP comes back from holiday leave and I can discuss with her. There is just so much conflicting info on the net you just don't know what to do sometimes. Thank you for information.

I thought it was a natural anti inflammatory? I take it with Vit C and flaxseed oil. I actually think it ,may be a placebo in my case more than actually doing me any good.
