Help Medtronic AdaptiveStim Spinal Cord Stimulator

I am thinking it might be a good idea to have a separate thread for this technology. It's very new and patient feedback may be important as time goes on.

Mine went in 8/17 and I was the first patient my pain doctor had implanted with this particular technology. So far the AdaptiveStim (AS for ease) has not been turned on yet - that's supposed to happen later this week.

The one thing that really struck me today is - I wonder if there is anything about this new technology that would cause mine to 'stutter' as I discussed in this other thread.

I'm hoping others with this device will stop out here and post their experiences, good, bad, indifferent.

Great idea Andy, to start this thread. That way people's eyes will go straight to this, without having to weed thru a bunch of other threads to get bits and pieces of info on this unit.

I sure hope you'll get some answers real soon regarding the stuttering.

No, it only happens when the unit is turned on. Thing is, it happens so bad sometimes it feels like it's been completely turned off...then suddenly it JOLTS back on.

I don't know if I'm being overly hopeful but it seems like maybe it's not happening as much as week 1 post-op ... time will tell.

Andy I did have those exact sensations you're describing with a completely different scs. They are gone now. I think scarring helped a lot.

Thank you very much for that, TK. I was just contemplating this morning really pushing the issue with the Rep but maybe I just really need to be patient. It's tough, though, because I've already gotten to where I tune-out the stimulation sometimes and I'll be be-boppin along and suddenly notice the pain starts showing up and I realize the stim has gone into it's "hic-up" so I have to shift, or something, to bring the stim back online.

I'll try to be patient...in all honesty I think it might be better now than it was immediately post-op so ... 'hang in there, Andy'!

I'm not much for patience and the day I fell I texted my rep in a panic, but everything was great. Thank goodness! I have cycling programs I really enjoy. Idk if Medtronic does those but they are nice.

Thumbs up Hi Andy

I have the Medronic Adapative Stim. I had the surgery in January 2012 and a revision done in April. Medronic just had this type of stimulator approved in December. They "released" the battery after the 1st and still haven't released it from April's surgery. I did like it and I think its amazing that the stimulator knows when you sitting, standing or laying down. You will like it just because you don't get that jolt like you do now when you change positions. I'm just having other problems. They can't seem to program it where I need it. I think its because of all of the surgeries I had and the scar tissue is in the way. I have the pulse set at the highest it will go--1200--and it drains my battery every day. What a pain to have to charge it every day. Well hopefully you will feel better and like the adapative part of the stimulator. Good luck and welcome to the world of SCS's
