Heh Heh. My SIL just happens to be good with this stuff. And when he tells me how or why, it usually sinks in my thick skull. His mom is another story, and he won't even try with her.

Actually, he is starting RN school next month. I'm so pleased he's finally going!!!

I have a BIL that has anything that can easily be put on a power strip put on one. So if you are done watching TV, you not only turn off the TV, you turn off the power strip. The microwave, it uses electricity having that time flashing so put it on a power strip. Drives me crazy when i am at their house. You think you have something turned on and then find out it really isn't until you turn on the power strip.

The Costco kiosk was very slow this morning and the guy manning it was bored, so he was very nice to explain some things for me. Turns out they don't carry Apple at all, and since we decided on the 4S pretty much, I have to go elsewhere.

But he did show me this nice website... it will tell you all the
coverage codes each phone handles...
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/
For Apple 4S :
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3541
You can compare the "modes" for any phone... it is interesting what does come up!

Since we know this phone works upNorth, because our son used his this summer, we are going with it.

We'll be switching over probably by the end of next month.
The Apple 4S has come down to $99 with AT &T, new contract.

MrsD you may want to check AT&T prices and plans on line. The 4S should be about $50 now, the 4, free. I had been gone from AT&T for a few months, they now have a special price 200 minutes for Seniors. Knocked a few bucks off for me

Default MrsD-cell phone

I should have put in my other post if you do check on line, it's the refurbished phones that are so cheap. I got my iPhone 3 for $49, it lasted 2 1/2 years, I sold it for $52. I got my 4 for 49 on line. I also got the ios5 upgrade last week free.

Oh, Thanks.... I'll ask about the 200 minutes!
Since they have roll over ... and we rarely use many anyway,
this could be good for us!
No one offered that to us yet. Hmmmmm?

Almost everyone we know here and upNorth is AT &T anyway...so those are free!

Thanks aussiemom.

And on the AT&T website are also offers for refurbished phones.

What is going on with the iPhone 4 and 4S now-- I found out from an AT &T store, is that Apple just lowered the prices on existing new stock for AT & T purchase since the 5 is now out.
The 4S used to be $199.00 new. So the new Apple discount made it $99. The 4 which is not 4G etc, is not expected to be sold popularly so AT &T made it .99 cents, and that is "new" not refurbished. My son wants us to get the 5... but really, I don't think we need it. At home we usually use the computer, and
the iPhones are basically for vacation to follow weather and internet purchases from the island.

I do think the iPhones will not last however, like our old Nokia's have. The iPhone does NOT have a removable replaceable battery! So when the battery goes, the phone is kaput! The sales guy at Costco said our Nokia type bar phone is just about indestructible. And our son says the iPhones he's had have all gone kaput after 2-3 yrs, just about when the new one comes out. But then he is rather rough on stuff, with the ADHD and all. We plan on getting the special cushioned cases like this:
http://www.speckproducts.com/iphone-...iphone-4s.html
And Amazon now has these cases for $13.

What's this about a plan that just has 200 minutes for seniors?. I have 300 and it's to many.

my mom's cellphone is fairly indestructible too. Her's is some Samsung flip phone we bought for her in december of 2002. She's had it for ten years now, and it's still kicking. We're not getting her a new one unless that one breaks.

(btw, my mom is still recovering from WNV and might be home by oct 5th. She does have some cognitive problems leftover from the infections)

My dad said that if something happens to his EVO cellphone, he might just drop his phone number and take over my mom's cellphone. Smaller phone, fits in his pocket, easy for him to use and probably cheaper because he wouldnt need the big data plan that we have (we have the cheapest/smallest plan Sprint has for smartphones)

The AT &T 200minutes are not roll over however. I am not sure from what I saw on the web that this discount is still available however. Free minutes start at 9pm Weeknights and weekends.
I could not find it on the website, but I did find other people who have it.

There is also at AT &T a Veteran's 15% discount. But veterans have to get a certificate that shows their honorable discharge before becoming eligible.
