19 month old son with Absent Seizures

Hello my name is Sarah I have a 19 month old son that has Absent seizures. We met with the pediatric neurologist on Friday and he recomended that we place him on Zarontin. I did some research on the drug and I am so scared. If anyone has experience with this drug or with absent seizures please give me some feed back!

You should see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) at an Epilepsy Center which are usually at University or big hospitals. Your need to cut out the carbs and starch foods because they will trigger seizures. Start keeping track of his seizures by writing them down on a calendar, by doing this the Dr. may see a pattern in his seizures. Get him on vitamin B12 500 mcg. once a day. Also avoid very bright light, like at a theater, the flashing can bring on a seizure. Avoid being around bright flashing lights like at a theater.

Welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I don't know a whole lot about seizures, but i do know that most drugs. when you look them up have a whole list of frightening side effects. Take a deep breath, and try to learn some about your son's problem first before looking up the drugs. Its good to know what to watch for side effects, but right now, when you are scared, learn what you can about your son's disorder, then move on to the drugs and remember, not all people get side effects and those that do don't always get the worst ones.

How frightening this must be for you. Your little guy is very lucky to have such a caring mom. You have been given the right place to go and ask questions.

I have a son that has had seizures for 15 years. He has different types.

But the fact that seizures are scarey and medications all have side effects
is true. Please give the medication a try. If you start to see side effects
that are dangerous, give the doctor a call immediately or go to the hospital.

If its something that can be monitored while you call the doctor do just
that. This is what we do as a parent with children with seizures.

zaronin is one of the big meds for absence seizures. Its known for being
good.
