This is why my husand insists I use a cane when I'm hanging onto him, "so people will know you have a problem", he says. I also keep a copy of a letter from my neuro that excused me from jury duty because of MS in the glove compartment of my car, just in case.

I was attending classes at a college my husband taught at. I lost my balance and ran into a wall. One of the math teachers saw me. She later asked my DH if I was drunk! It was then I understood how rumors got started.

I've left a message with the Rocky Mountain MS people about the card someone in this thread mentioned. I think that's a fantastic idea.

saw a woman in WalMart a year or so ago with a Tshirt I'll have to order (said she got on cafe press)

It said:

No, I'm not drunk- I have M.S.!
What's Your Excuse?


The honesty & humor struck me a wonderful way to handle the "stares & whispers" we all get.
