My condolences... sounds tragic.
Alcoholics develop clotting disorders, because a damaged liver can no longer make the peptides, that are needed for normal clotting.
Also the veins in the esophagus enlarge and can burst leading to
a sudden hemorrhage. It is not uncommon for alcoholics to
bleed to death, therefore.
So without an autopsy, it would be difficult to hazard an explanation yet.
