I rarely reply to any of the common hats, but yours struck a nerve with me.
I was in the same shape as you, taking Lyrica and the other vitamins that you mentioned, and had small success.
I finally found a neurologist who is board-certified and four different specialties one being neurology, one being psychiatry, one being a pain management, and the other being specific cancer pain management at the brain.
I take the Vitamins that you are on, but I find that SLEEP is Absolutely necessary if you are going to have any success at pain control. I realize this is easier said than done. Here are the meds that I take and have found success with:
MS Contin - It is a Long Acting Morphine. You get no "highs" & it keeps you on a more "even keel" than taking a Norco or the likes. It is your decision, coupled with your physician's advice, as to whether you are a candidate for this medication.
I also take:
Soma - for Spasms (could not make it without this Rx)
Klonopin - label says for seizures, but it -off label - helps with pain
control.
Clonidine - label is for high blood pressure, but works to keep excessive
sweating & B/P down when pain is high
Trazadone - Great for sleep, but I had to stop because of drug interaction.
Restoril - Replacement for Trazadone. Doesn't work as well, but helps.
I'm Afraid you will be like me, Having to have a combination of medications to control your pain. There is never a time when I feel high or unable to function because of the medication.
I never exceed the Recommended dosage, and many times I do not have to take the medication prescribed for breakthrough pain.
My suggestion is to find a pain management specialist who is knowledgeable and RSD / CRPS. I've had RSD for over 10 years, and have experimented with many, many treatments. Physical therapy helped for the first year, and without that I have no idea what shape I would Be IN, but it would not be as good as I am now.
All I can say is don't give up, keep trying, try to keep a positive attitude, and most of all try to find someone to support you. Support is extremely important. I have not found it in any support group, other than this online group.
Tell your doctor you would like to try combinations of antidepressants, anti-seizures, muscle relaxants, and painkillers. If he/she does not understand this, then you probably need to look for another physician.
I know it sounds like a lot of medication, and I realize you have a small child, but I also care for a three year old, and these medications do not incapacitate you. Take them as prescribed, and if that feels too much, then cut back. You will know when you've reached the right dosage.
GOOD LUCK! Hang in there, you are not alone.
