Default 3 Ways Your Dog’s Nose Could Save Your Life

http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-exp...save-your-life

I've known for... years & years that dogs are capable of detecting things like cancer and imminent seizures. The new information here (to me) is that they can detect blood sugar drops, but it doesn't/shouldn't surprise me.

Now, if I could get ol' furface to alert me when a migraine is imminent, I might have something (besides a cookie mooching slobber monster... )!

It didn't dawn on me until afterward, but my dog (mixed German Sheppard/Collie) jumped on me (never does this...ever) right before my first stroke. Then she did the same right before the second as well. I really think she knew they were about to happen and she was trying to get me to sit down before they occurred.

She's a great dog, 14 now and moving mighty slow. But I will never forget these incidents. Dogs are capable of much more then we know.

Default i miss him soooo much

good morning

you have me thinking of
my silky terrier since taken
from mamma 9 years ago
my one and only OLIVER
he would let my eldest know
when her seizures were in onset
and in hind sight i remember
it is one year since i moved from my
home town of 45 years
anyhow circumstances wolud
not allow me with a dog
so my eldest tookand needed him most
i just kept him in previous apartment
as i was alpha
back in hind sight
before moving where i am now
i do remember him being exceptional
attachment and i do remember him
giving me more love than usual and
snuggled under my breast
that was just taken from me
cancer
ya think

thank you for reminding me the love
i have for him i'm still not over him
not being with me
he sure would be a great steady dose
of medicine

thank you

I know what you mean, Eva. I'm on my second "therapy dog". My first was dumber'n a bag of hammers, but he had the gentlest soul of any creature I've ever known - bar none. We love 'em all, and they're all different, but I think I'll always miss that one the most...

The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.” ~ Samuel Butler

A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near. His head within our hand in his old way.” ~ Mary Carolyn Davies

I think pet owners would all be wise to "listen" to their pets. I've lost count how many times one of our dogs behaved out of the ordinary in the attempt to communicate to us that something was wrong. Maybe 90% of the time it's nothing, but the other 10% it's something definite and serious.

If we spent a fraction of the time watching/studying our pets that they spend studying us, communication would be greatly improved.
