may I recmd he go to an orthopedic foot & ankle MD if he is not better soon- you can search for one in your area by seeing:
www.aofas.org/

A GP is probably not the best choice IMHO, as they can only look at XRays or CT/MRI scans - and have no specialty training in this. As he has a demanding profession, and needs to rely on his feet to be stable. Ortho F&A docs can get him properly diagnosed and treated in the shortest, most effective manner. *most "large" ortho practices will have an ankle/foot specialist in thier group
