The inclusion of omega-3 fish oils in the diet has been shown to help with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases (Kelley DS 2001; Simopoulos SP 1999, 2002) by suppressing synthesis of TNF-alpha (Endres S et al 1989). Vitamin E and fish oil work together to decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6 and TNF-alpha, in mice (Venkatraman JT et al 1999a,b). Omega-3 fish oils have been useful in patients with a variety of inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis (Simopoulos SP 1999). Studies in humans with rheumatoid arthritis suggest that fish oil and vitamin E decrease inflammation in humans (Tidow-Kebritchi S et al 2001). Moreover, fish oil supplementation has shown anti-inflammatory effects, including decreased use of anti-inflammatory drugs, for patients with a variety of other chronic inflammatory diseases (Simopoulos SP 2002).

De-activating TGF-beta (fibrosi)
Fortunately, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have been working hard to develop ways to control fibrosis. The Pittsburgh scientists realised that fibrosis is stimulated by the overproduction of a chemical called transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta). TGF-beta is produced by tissues in response to injury and disease and is the major cause of fibrosis in humans and other animals.
The Pittsburgh researchers also knew that decorin - a proteoglycan (a protein with sugar attached) naturally found in the human body - has the ability to de-activate TGF-beta. Decorin has been shown to inhibit fibrosis in the kidney, liver, and lung, so why - the Pennsylvania scientists reasoned - would it not also stop fibres from taking over muscle tissue?
In recent research, the Pittsburgh medical team has in fact been able to show that decorin is a powerful anti-fibrotic agent in muscle tissue - and thus that decorin administration has the potential to be an outstandingly effective treatment for muscle injury (Kazumasa, F. et al., 'The Use of An Antifibrosis Agent to Improve Muscle Recovery after Laceration,' The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Vol. 29 (4), pp. 394-402, 2001).
These results suggest that decorin not only prevents fibrosis but also improves muscle regeneration and repair.

This study was planned to assess the response of Serrapeptase in
patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) ====> Same mechanism as TOS !!
with CTS were evaluated clinically. After baseline
electrophysiological studies, these patients were given serrapetase10
mg twice daily with initial short course of nimesulide. Clinical and
electrophysiological reassessment was done after 6 weeks.
Mean age was 43.9 years with male to female ratio of 1:2.33. Sixty
five percent cases showed significant clinical (13/20)
was supported by significant improvement in electrophysiological
parameters. Recurrence was reported in only four cases. No significant
side effect was observed.
