Default Moving -- Insights into our lives

For years, we have had a thread called Insights into our Lives. Lately it has not been getting much traffic. So a few of us thought that if we moved it to Stumble Inn maybe more people would participate. You may not have even known that it existed.

So I will start. Today is a semi cleaning day for me. So far I have done one load of laundry, dusted, and stripped my bed. I still want to vacuum. We always used to call that "running the sweeper" at home in Ohio. I will do the bathrooms and kitchen tomorrow -- maybe. But now I am taking a break I also talked to my sister and niece this morning who are in France for another three weeks. They have been there for a month. My little sister, who is a communications professor, has been teaching a course in Anger, France. My 6 year old niece loves it there, but she does miss her daddy who could only stay for two weeks and then had to go back to work. I may go to the pool for a little while this afternoon. It is a beautiful day here in Central Illinois.

So what are you all doing today?

I'm at work trying to motivate myself to do something constructive. I didn't feel good on Monday so I took yesterday off. I had a wonderful day with my husband (as always) and it is hard getting back into the swing of things. I work in health care and we are being "inspected" by one of the many teams that review our facility. I was just called to go talk to the surveyors to justify why I did what I did with a patient. They had no problem once I explained, thank goodness.

Tonight I have to go have a sleep study. By the time we eat and I clean up it will be time for me to leave. I'll miss my own bed and cuddling with DH and the cat. And they expect me to sleep like I normally do - what a joke.

I could not fall asleep during my sleep study. I just laid there all night. It was so uncomfortable with all of those wires. And of course I had to pee Good luck!

I usually take a nap when I get home from work but I won't tonight. I want to be good and tired so I sleep. Also, I am not drinking anything after 5:00 so I don't have to get up and pee. I will be glad when the test is over. The biggest thing is I have to get home in time to wash the gunk out of my hair and get to work by 7:30. I already told everyone I might be late.

Cool

Hi Barb, I knew "Insights" was in Social Chat and used to stop in to say hey.. You all, who frequented that thread, actually had active lives....still working/raising children/etc.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to record insights into my life....I don't do anything.. A normal day for me now is, to wake up (slowly, so I don't hurt myself ), get into my scooter (again sloooooowly), go potty, clean up after, pee and poop at home doggy, feed him, get some fruit/jello for me, turn on my PC, check in here, have lunch, have nap......Repeat above every 4/5 hours..

Once in awhile I'll have an event, like fall on my butt, go to a doc's appt., mop the floor, dust the furniture, talk to the kids/grandkids. I am not only bored, but boring..

I will enjoy reading about all of your insights and events and live vicariously thru you. If anything out of the extreme ordinary, you will be the first to know..

My oldest son came up here this morning and took me grocery shopping. He did a few things for me around the house that needed to be done.....changed a light bulb, brought the garbage can back down to the house from the road, rolled up the garden hose in the backyard. Stuff that's easy for most folks but difficult for me.

I had to have my A/C system replaced on Tuesday. Actually it was the whole heating and A/C system. Took them a couple of hours to take out the old one and install the new one. They were thrilled to discover that the heating unit was in the hall and not in the attic! I cannot imagine installing anything up in the attic where it's well over 100 degrees. My landlord was so good to have them do this quickly. He knows I have MS and heat is not nice to me.

It's hot here today and looking a bit like it might storm. My new A/C is purring along and keeping me nice and cool. I'm so thankful for it.

Thanks for starting this thread, Barb.

Hi all...haven't been around lately...nice to see this in Stumble Inn...

Sal, do you have a Kindle? it might give you some fun stuff to read...you also should get some dvds and watch movies...and get some hand weights and do some arm exercises to keep your upper body strong. It'll get your blood pumping too!

Sleep study...they shouldn't call them that, since it's so difficult to sleep with all those wires, etc.

I'm wearing a heart "event" monitor for 30 days-have to push a button when I have irregular heartbeat. This is the first day I've had to push it since I got it 9 days ago...it's always the way, right

My FIL isn't doing well at all. He is miserable, has lost interest in everything, and just sleeps the day away. and my MIL is doing her Alzheimers' ***** impression, nagging him all day, which is making him more miserable. We have to get a hospital bed for him now, since he is not assisting at all during the night when the aides change him, and they are still throwing their backs out cause their bed is so low. He is also confused occasionally. One of DH's coworkers has suggested maybe he is experiencing mini strokes. It's stressing me out big time...can't seem to keep them out of my head. I can't do more for them than what I'm already doing...I need to let go or I will make myself sick.
Anyway, hope all is well for my NT friends...have a good day!

Debbie, so sad about your in-laws. It's so hard for everybody! As my Mom developed Alzheimer's, Dad was busy dying of COPD, and he had a hard time grasping what was happening to her. Her personality did a 180 the last couple of years. It's been 12 years since she died, and I still can't get over that feeling of watching my sweet, generous, cheerful Mom become sour, selfish and snide. Thank God she had flashes of the "old" Mom, or it probably would have killed me.

I got off to a good start today--changed the bed, took a shower, got dressed, did a few little chores, fixed lunch. Things went south after that, but at least I can look back on some accomplishments. For a change.

It's been a PERFECT day weather-wise, sunny and breezy, temps in the mid-sixties. Just how I like it. Nothing but sun in the forecast, though it's going to creep up into the mid-eighties (maybe) by the first of the week. Too warm for moi, but most everybody else will be happy.

Going to a funeral home again tonight. The father of a good friend died. It seems to be happening more often as we all get older. Her sister had just got married last week. Her sister had a lung problem that she was missing some kind of factor in her lungs and had a double lung transplant. Her only hope in life was to have a monthly infusion unless she got the transplant. You got on the list to get the infusion only if some one who was getting it died. Terrible thought that the only way you can live is for some one else to die.

Also having our weekly visit with mother in law. My husband wants her to go out so bad. It is so difficult for her to get in the car and since she has no teeth it takes her a very long time to eat. So DH gets upset at bothb of thee situations. Why can't her understand that he places high expectations on her and she can't meet them

Sally, how does that old saying go? The one that says, “Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap.” So it seems that you and I are birds of the heaven.

It is sometimes hard for me to not feel useless, but I try to look on the bright side. After all, how many people are so lucky that they don’t have to get up early five days a week, be on time for work, or meet anyone else’s deadlines. There are so many things about an active lifestyle that I was glad to leave behind.

I have often thought that God was really kinda wise when he chose me to have MS. I can’t think of many people who could live my lifestyle and still continue to grow and thrive like I do. I think that I am well-suited for my position in life.
