Not a "power pin" problem, but a power adapter problem.

AFAIK, the pin to the power jack is ok. But the end of the charger that goes in that little slot isn't. I have to write fast or I will loose power. Can I just replace the first half of the cord (before the battery) or do I have to replace everything up to the end of the battery? (The charger itself, the computer is fine. I rolled over the end of the battery on accident.)

I don't know about those - you might be able to find a replacement charger/power for it on craigslist.
http://craigslist.org/about/cities.html

I've noticed quite a few for sale in my area.

Default Got a new charger... works like a charm

I called HP a day after it got annoying. I have the new charger. Unfortunately, there is a chip out of the part that holds the screen in in the front of the lap top monitor. I assume that is going to be a somewhat easy fix if we decide to fix it. I think there are little screws in the "front panel" that holds the monitor screen in. It should be an easy since it's just the little "window frame" of the lap top screen.

Will this be any kind of problem if I let it sit as is

PS.
The missing piece isn't really visable until you close the lap top. I'm just asking if I should get this fixed with a new lap top screen frame. Can that be done? I don't know if the little rubber stoppers that are there to cushion the screen when you close the lap top have screws hidden behind them and if the problem happens again.

If it gets bad, can it be taken anywhere that offers repairs (and it would help if it carried HP computers.)

(If I asked something simular to this. I am sorry. I couldn't find my original queston with the same blurb.)

If it is older can you just put a bit of glue to hold it?
but if newer I wouldn't try that.

do things flop around or wiggle because of this piece missing?
if not and if you don't carry it around a lot it should be OK, but I'm not a expert with laptops at all.
I did google "HP laptop parts" -you might find what you need on one of the links

Default It was a Christmas present.

If it gets bad. I am sure that an in-store "geeksquad"-er can direct us the right way. I am sure that a new frame (arround the screen) is reasonably priced if it gets really bad it is totally fixable.

It happened a few weeks ago, but the piece just fell off recently. (Yesterday.)

I want to make it clear, that the lap top works absolutely fine, it must have been a weak spot in the molding of the monitor (not the viewing screen).

Thanks again. Maybe I'll see what I can do tommorow, by phone. (It'll cut me time later.)

If it's from Christmas it should have some sort of warranty - maybe it won't cost you anything.

Well, I went to anouther board the same night I posted here and everybody there really doesn't have a glowing opinion of the "Geek Squad". (BTW. Unrelated to our fine little family.)

However, I did a less than five minute search a few minutes ago and found a place in my home town pretty much down the street that can fix the problem if it gets really bad and starts to creep up wich I doubt, but since it is a chunk out of front I am wondering if any of the non damaged parts can get effected. (IE a crack going horizontally. (Can't really go vertically because there is a decorative hole in the design of the lap top front panel (??????????)

I was going to call somewhere today, but I had no time. Though the wierd thing, the chunk that is missing seems to be smaller than the chunk we had found on the floor. (Again, plastic molding from the monitor. No computer screen.)

No, we didn't save the chunk because we didn't know what it was. but since the front panel comes off and is replaceable. No big loss.

Thanks again everybody!
