Help! handicapped son with low temp!
My son will be 23 this Oct. He was born at 28 weeks. Docs said at first he would not live, then said he would not talk or walk but he fooled them all. He was born with CP, Hydrocep. and has brain injury. His IQ is 62 as of age 20. He has a shunt for hydro, it has shut down 3 or 4 times in his life. He walks, talks, reads, plays vid games, loves to watch sports. He also has some form of OCD, cant feel pain like you and I and sometimes I wonder if he can feel he is hungry. He disability is as such he cant live alone but high functioning enough where he becomes easily bored. Good kid but he can easily be talked into getting himself into trouble. Taking care of him is a 24/7 job. July of this year we moved him to a group home 5 minutes from home. Other family members here at home were slowly wearing down. He takes Paxil for depression and a blood pressure med. He has been tested for thyroid disorders and diabetes. His body temps are always low. We have been charting them for about 10 days. 94-95 degrees is normal and no on knows why. We have asked his doctors for years what we can expect as he gets older. We have been told from the docs reading the MRIs there was a large amount of "Grey Matter" missing in his brain possibly from the hydro. and pressure it has caused over the years. We asked what was the life expectancy of someone like our son and would his health decline with age and we were not given answers. Were they just trying to spare us some worry? Anyone with experience such as ours have any thing to offer in that area? Your thoughts please. Thanks for taking time to read and respond. This is my first post, sorry to take so long.
